If you are in Karlovy Vary and is looking for classic Czech food, this place is the place for you…read more It is a little hidden away form the main street of Karlovy Vary, but it is very close to St. Mary Magdalene's Church (would say that it is pretty much behind the church). This place can be a bit crowded. We got there around prime dinner time and had to wait a little before we got seated. This place was a tid bit under staffed. Despite a full restaurant, there were only 2 servers at the time.
I ordered the roasted pork knuckle, which was a class Czech dish, but they should have warned me that this was a dish for two people. The pork knuckle was bigger than my face. If that pork was still alive and kicked me with its knuckle for trying to eat it, it would definitely K.O. me in no time. The pickled vegetables helped to off set the greasiness of the pork, but it didn't save me from the huge portion size. Ultimately I wasn't able to finish it as I felt I was slowly becoming a pork myself.
Price was very cheap overall. The entire pork knuckle was less than $20, which was quite a steal considering that the portion size was more like for 2 people.
I also highly recommend the cucumber salad. It kinda reminded me of Mideastern food quite a bit, but it's just another refreshing dish to balance out the heaviness of Czech dishes.
Overall if you are in Karlovy Vary, I do recommend this place. But again service can be a bit slow during busy hours.
