Absolutely filthy train station covered in a cloud of cigarette smoke. Be prepared for your hair and personal belongings to smell like smoke. They are aware of this problem and have set up small glass smoke-free booths which are a joke. It was smoky even in the booths! You will see lots of drunks and homeless people here, but they are pretty harmless and lost in their own stupor. The trams attached to the station are so old - it's a wonder that they can run. I took the S7 train to the airport, and a blonde guy was smoking in the train and swearing in German - scaring many of the passengers! This was happening in the non-smoking section (although I was informed that the entire train was supposed to be non-smoking) at 16.00 when there should have been staff to monitor the situation. During the day, you may find guards and people in the station who can help you, but there is no one to be found outside the 9-5 hours. On Christmas morning (December 25), I saw a tall, blonde guy shove his petite woman 'friend' into a wall. She was so small. Later, on the platform waiting for my train, I saw another guy cussing at a girl in German. She was wearing a jean jacket, panties, and boots! Nothing else. He kicked her on her shins, and he ran across the train tracks, and she got up and chased him, howling and swearing in German. Some Italian tourists and I were waiting for the 4.26 train to the airport and wondered what to do. I could see the tourists and immigrant-looking locals looking at each other nervously. Who would want to get involved? And the woman was still chasing her abuser! I haven't witnessed such misogyny and abuse in my extensive travels across the various continents. And then, there was an Austrian guy who was drunk and swearing at the foreigners and shaking his fist into the air. He looked enraged. I say, if you are uncomfortable around Neo-Nazis and misogynists, avoid this place. Where are the security/police during this? Really dampened my Christmas morning. read more
