If you're on the Lower North Shore you can save big bucks. I'm talking a $100 difference on the tyre I needed ($220 fitted with Payless vs $270 for tyre plus labour of $50 with another well known mobile business). Alas the tyre I needed wasn't in stock but they ordered it in and was fitted within 24 hours (the jobs itself took 10 minutes). The workshop is gorgeously filthy. The guys working there straight talking 'getting on with the job' types. Even better there' not a Pirelli calendar in sight. In fact (hilariously) the tyre company has replaced the human birds with the Avian variety. This month's was a rather charming Kookaburra. I was so charmed by the bird that I didn't even mind when they kindly offered to reverse my car of the garage. My inner-Feminist just growled quietly and smiled. I left my car in and the guys had my problem fixed (faulty bearings) and a bunch of new tyres on and I was good to go same day. Unfortunately a possibly related problem with a sound when steering developed a few months ago, which I finally ended up taking the car in to have looked at (it needed a service anyway). I booked it in for a service and mentioned the sound which had come back. The guys completed the service, but also took the initiative to solve the problem by replacing the bearings again without any cost (it wasn't exactly cheap the first time - Suzuki parts...) and the sound is gone again. Great customer service and initiative from the technicians to fix problems keep a customer happy. They can do tyres, wheels, suspension, and light grade mechanical repair/servicing here. Friendly customer service, clear advice, and you don't leave thinking you've been taken to the cleaners. They've earned my trust in the few times I've visited. Recommended!

They're usually dodgy sloppy shockers, but Jax Artarmon was a very pleasant surprise. Despite being busy, they fixed my tyre quickly (less than 30mins) for a reasonable price. They're also friendly and have a pleasant waiting area. Oh, and they actually fixed the problem first time around! Even if I have a tyre problem in Parramatta, I'll be going to Artarmon to get it fixed.

That's the down side of using a chain is that store managers like Tim can't give you a reduced rate they have to stick to the brand's set price. Generally, the petrol price at Mortlake Service Centre is ten cents more expensive than the average price. A little annoying, but you're paying for the convenience (of not having to drive the extra few minutes to Concord Rd). If you have a long drive ahead of you, this is not the place to stock up on munchies. The variety is limited, to put it kindly. Despite all this, I continue to fill up in Mortlake because the service is exceptional. A nostalgic atmosphere greets you as you drive up to the petrol pump. There's no need to get out of your car because a friendly gentlemen will be there before you can open the door, asking how your day has been, and how many liters you need, before filling it up himself. Sometimes it's worth paying a few extra cents for exceptional, old-fashioned service!

Pricing seemed reasonable and no games or fuss as you may get elsewhere. Had a free coffee and some Arnott's biscuits whilst kicking back in their waiting room. The place is very clean and organised, seems like they take pride in what they do, which is great. After 20min or so, the tire was fixed and off we went to fight another day!
