I love this library so much! There is an excellent selection of incoming titles downstairs and a short trip up the elevator, there's a huge set of fiction (I like the scifi/fantasy section myself) and an even bigger selection of non-fiction. Plus, your library card allows you to access digital collections too; I have an audiobook checked out right now. The staff have always been kind and helpful and the library also hosts events and clubs for the public. I'm a regular at one of those clubs. It helped me make some friends with shared interests after I moved here. This is one of my favorite places in town. read more

I love the Tyler Public Library. Compared with the library in the town I came from, it offers so much more. It has wonderful open-to-the-public classes. It's open for long hours. The staff are helpful and friendly. The book choices are huge (compared to the library in the town I came from), and they offer inter-library loan where I don't have to pay for the book. Took my kids here for the first time today. I was so excited about the sectioned off play area because I wasn't shushing my daughter every 10 seconds, but then I started looking at the toys, the furniture, the floor... *barf*. Everything was filthy, worn and mangled! I took the kids to the book area instead and within a minute, my 2 year old was looking through a book about ghosts (which scared her, by the way). I was digging through the shelves trying to find a good book to read to her- Antiracist baby boardbook, are you kidding me? A book about Zodiac Signs, nah. A Spooky Halloween? What the crap. SHES 2. THIS IS THE KIDS SECTION?! The "older kid" shelves are within reach as well, so I couldn't even let her explore the shelves without looking over her shoulder to see if what she was reading was appropriate. Once home, I immediately washed her hands and feet and put new clothes on her. I was sorely disappointed in this library. read more

The Tyler public library is the perfect place to go on a Saturday afternoon. If you love to read and like to spend your days looking for the latest novel then this is the place for you. I am a huge fan of historical romance novels and they have a wide selection to choose from. You can also rent movies and CDs. If you don't have internet access at home and need to get on the internet then they have computers on the third floor that you can use. It's conveniently located in downtown Tyler and has very convenient operating hours. The librarians are always happy to help you find anything you need. read more

Their reference and non fiction sections are a joke. Almost everything I was trying to find was only online. If you're here looking for a quiet place to read or do work, forget it. The employees continually yell across the room to each other about meaningless nonsense. "Look at this lady's name! Antionette?? Does she eat cake all day? Oh I think it's pretty!" This was just one of the ridiculous conversations I couldn't help but hear as I sat upstairs reading. I won't be returning. read more

Nice service the childrens program are so good qand vey organized, regarding some of the other reveiws: they are not very loud since i have been here besides the occasional crying kid or cough and the other person who said that the fiction section is upstairs is terriblefor anyone with a disabilty or what ever they have a elevator so they can get up. Just saying this place is very nice they even have a kids play area for kids very nice will come back again! read more

I have visited many libraries in TX, CO, NY, and Calgary. In many of these locations, I have experienced exceptional libraries. Libraries are treasures!! Excellent libraries are critical (in so many ways) to improve the area, show pride for their city, and demonstrate dedication to the education of their citizens. Public libraries are paid for by tax dollars - in essence, we all have money invested and have ownership of our library. Sadly, the Tyler library is poor in so many ways! The librarians / volunteers are generally rude and lazy. Their attitudes need serious improvement. Many books and videos are either missing, very outdated, or unorganized. In addition, their selection is lacking. I could go on regarding my complaints, but here is the point - a city that does not invest / value a library is reflective of their perspective. I have been a card-carrying member of the Tyler Public Library for the past 20 years. I proudly proclaim that I am a bonafide Friend of the Tyler Public Library--and I am proud. I have found the facilities AND the staff to be most convenient and pleasant. I have NEVER found anything about which to complain. I am particularly impressed by the FRIENDLINESS of the staff and have always found them more than willing to help. In addition, my visits to the library are usually to find GOOD, CURRENT FICTION works and I've yet to see a public library of this size to contain such a great fiction collection (they even have a FULL department of mysteries, set aside (my favorite) and whoever orders those works are to be commended.. read more

Having moved here from Louisiana, I was shocked to visit the Tyler Public Library and be informed I had to buy a $50 membership for 6 months. Public? Only if you pay. Then it is difficult to find help there. The fiction section is upstairs which is great if you're not handicapped. Then you have to locate the elevators. There is no one offering to show you anything. I'm certainly not impressed with this "hospitality". read more
