Very good food reasonable price Me and my family go here all the time and we love the food

I wish I can give 3.5 star and here is why. We phoned our order in and the staff was very kind and patient explaining the options. We arrived at the site and food was ready for pick up. All of them are patient and courteous to the customer. There is no seating inside the restaurant so everything is to go only. The food is average - Note that taste is a personal preference and I wish there was more seasoning, not necessarily salt but more flavor. There is also too much cornmeal breading for my taste. The portion is definitely big enough and justify the cost, just not my preference flavor wise.

Hole in the wall spot, in a place you wouldn't expect to even see a restaurant. Glad it's still here. My go-to spot for fried catfish. Always fresh. A little unevenly seasoned sometimes, but everything can't be perfect all the time. Some pieces are just a little more salty than others. I can live with that. The OGs in the back know what they're doing, and orders don't take long to come out. Everything is cooked to order, so keep that in mind. Haven't tried the desserts yet, but will in the future.

Prudently, I'd rather traverse from the peninsula on a random Monday for some Gumbo. To say that I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement. The gumbo was seasoned perfectly. I noticed that the chicken is shredded presumably from a pressure cooker, which turns every bite into a mouthful of everything. Despite my best efforts to not be dramatic, one can tell the passion and soul that is put into this bowl of Gumbo. Though I do see some comments, and I agree, that the Gumbo is not thick enough, I don't really care for a heavy/dense gumbo. This bowl has sufficient structure absent the heavy dense roux, and it was exactly to my liking. Though I wish there was a touch more rice, my $6 Caltrain ticket (+tax and muni) was not spent in vain for this heartwarming bowl of gumbo, with a side of passion, defining what real soul food is.

(One star only missing for lack of ambiance.) We tried as many things as we could try! I had the shrimp po boy, my husband had the hot link po boy. We also had the gumbo, red beans and rice, fries, and a hoe cake. Everything was DELICIOUS. We loved it all and would definitely come back. If I could give it another half star, I would. The food couldn't be better!

My bf ended up sharing his order with me because I didn't enjoy my Cioppino ($42.) The seafood was bland, all tasting very much alike, & the broth didn't give off that complex spicy tang that my favorite cioppinos possess. My table started with an appetizer of Red Chili Garlic Shrimp ($18) -- from the description, we were expecting a dry, possibly sautéed preparation & were disappointed that the shrimp were sitting in a watery broth. Though I was letdown by my picks here, I know my group enjoyed theirs. We were treated very well by our waiter & by the host who gave us a beautiful window seat; we enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the bay. Not a restaurant I'd regularly return to, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it (with a few caveats, of course) to someone looking for a sit-down Pier 39 meal.

The staff was friendly, the vibes were great, and the noise level was perfect for a big celebration where everyone could still talk and enjoy themselves. We had a large party of about 22 people, and the drinks were flowing all night and came out great, which definitely helped keep the celebration fun. We all ordered appetizers and entrees at the same time. The appetizers came out quickly, but things became pretty spotty once the entrees started arriving. About a third of the table received their food well before everyone else. Most of us tried to wait until the whole table had their meals before eating, but the delays between dishes coming out were so long that some people's food started getting cold. Then more confusion started happening when the staff realized some of the plates being brought to us were actually meant for other tables. It seemed like there was quite a bit of confusion happening in the kitchen. They assured us our actual orders were still coming, but by that point food just kept appearing at the table. We ended up with dishes we never ordered, which honestly felt wasteful because nobody wanted to eat food intended for another table. Of course, once it had touched our table, it made sense they couldn't reserve it elsewhere. By the time everyone finally got their correct meals, some people were no longer hungry, especially after appetizers, drinks, and the long wait in between courses. A lot of food ended up getting packed up because the timing was just so off. It turned into a bit of a debacle for such a special occasion. That said, the atmosphere and overall celebration itself were still enjoyable, and I'm glad we came. I do think this may be a better spot for smaller groups rather than very large parties, as the food timing and service coordination seemed overwhelmed by the size of ours.

The food was delicious, but the portions were a bit smaller than I remembered. The crab puffs were tasty, but soo very small, definitely wanted more. The satay was super good, but again, left us wanting more. Only 1 small skewer of beef and chicken. The garlic noodles were good, but a tad bit dryer than I'd like. The shaking beef was soo good, but more veggies and potatoes than beef. For dessert I had the creme brulee and it did not miss! This is definitely somewhere I'd come back to and recommend.

The Bo Kho dumplings were beautifully presented and tasted like Bo Kho. Probably my favorite thing I ate during the night! However, both Bo Kho and dumplings individually are not expensive items. So to put a $25 price tag for only 4 dumplings, it definitely feels a bit hard to justify getting it again for the price. That theme felt pretty much the same throughout the night. All of the dishes were decent and were presented nicely, but nothing I tasted made me go "wow, I need more of this". Crab was fresh, but nothing amazing was done to it that a fresh crab from another restaurant could not emulate. Service was attentive for the most part, and the ambiance of the restaurant is top notch. Don't think I'd come back again for a while personally. Nonetheless, if you're just here for the vibes and maybe a drink with a date/colleague, then this is a solid spot!

When asking for suggestions or even recommendations amongst the mid size menu, the great cravings and great seafood is well within reach and can't go wrong Affordable reach, I should also mention. While poke isn't cheap, the restaurant provides great portions and doesn't slack on the rice or even the sauce to make the poke amazing! Amazing isn't even an understatement at this point especially too! We got our lucky hands on two things. The spicy salmon can be summed in two words; spicy and light. Thankfully, those words go hand in hand. While the spiciness doesn't overpower the salmon, the salmon itself has such a light and natural taste. Paired with green onions and rice, it makes any poke lover recognize each little taste pallete that it has to offer. Secondly, the fried calamari we had a chance of trying also came with a spicy mayo sauce. The calamari itself? Fried to perfection, still crispy when you bite into itself and together with the sauce, it makes for a perfect savory snack!
