The curriculum is very well laid out for a beginner to built on a solid foundation. The instructors & others students are all helpful and the culture is built on learning, teaching and helping each other. The techniques seem very applicable towards self defense and effective against a bigger or stronger opponent. Techniques are taught both Gi and NoGi for practical application. It's a fantastic workout that's quickly put my in to great shape & leaves me grounded and calm when I finish the classes. My son has been a part of Gracie Barra since June 2022. It is his favorite class. Coaches Eric and Sierra are amazing coaches. So patient with the younger kids. It's definitely not easy to teach such young kids when they're have a hard time sitting still, but they somehow make it work. They promote discipline well as listening skills and the ability to follow directions. It's a great way to get exercise but also learn beginners self defense. They make the classes a lot of fun for these younger kids. If you have any kids this is the school I would highly suggest. I can personally say we will be with the school for a very long time to come it is well worth the money. This year my son went to his 1st Jujitsu tournament with the help of his coaches during rhe entire tournament. The tournament started promptly, ended early, and was generally well organized. While Oroville is a far away destination for our team, I found the place, cleaner and better run than most gyms. The bathrooms were well maintained. That's important to me as often the young gymnasts run in mid competition without shoes to make quick pit stops. The prior poster commented that there were not enough chairs for the awards ceremony. I've never been to a tournament where there were! Seating for the tournament itself is a must. And there were plenty. Bonus - there are many fast and fast/casual places to eat all around the gym.
