We really debated on whether to stay in one of the hill towns or in an agriturismo, and we're really glad we made the decision to stay here. It's centrally located within Tuscany and it was fairly easy to get around to all of the hill towns (whereas if you stay in the hill towns, there are parking issues and it can take a while to get in/out of the congestion). The hospitality at Fonte Bertusi can't be beat -- everyone is extremely nice, helpful and prompt in addressing any questions or concerns. The breakfast is great, but would advise that you come on the earlier side, as we were the last ones in a few times and some of the items were gone. Also be sure to try the cappuccino with the egg foam -- my husband is now an addict. The apartments also come with enough kitchen supplies to be able to make light meals. We made pici three out of our four nights at home without a problem of missing any key utensils or dinnerware. The only downside is that it was raining a lot while we were there and it was somewhat chilly (not the fault of the hosts, obviously), so we weren't able to enjoy the outside areas as much as we were hoping to. It would be heavenly to be there during warmer weather and read in the back area and share a bottle of wine during a sunset. And with the rain, there was a bit of a damp smell in the apartment sometimes, but fortunately opening the windows usually aired it out.

We did a private tour with him to…read morethree wineries and an olive oil farm throughout Tuscany, including both Chianti Classico and Montepulciano. Light breakfast and lunch included too! We did the wine lovers tour at Antinori nel Chianti Classico the day prior to our Franco Fadda tour, and it was awesome to follow that with Franco Fadda. We got to see much smaller wineries in comparison and felt like it was a more authentic, unique experience that we would never have been able to do on our own. What's even better is Franco is such good friends with everyone along the way that you just can't help but smile at all of their interactions together. And it's easy to see why! Franco is such a blast to be around, and we were with him for 12 hours straight. :) Throughout the day, we essentially had a private tour and tasting at each winery with no one else onsite, and got a much closer look at each wineries' processes and what made them unique. Each winery was phenomenal with delicious wines, and we shipped some home from them all, which Franco makes easy by helping coordinate it for you in partner with one of the wineries. Lastly, the olive oil farm was a wonderful treat too! We got to taste and see the olive oil being made by one of the best makers in the world and he's only 20 years old! It was incredible and basically being made out of a garage-like space on the family's property. We honestly cannot recommend a tour with Franco Fadda enough. We've been raving about it since we got back from our honeymoon, and it was easily the main highlight of our entire trip. This is a once in a lifetime experience that is worth every penny and more! We felt like we got so much beyond what we paid for that doing one of his tours should be a no brainer to all. You must book with Franco if you're in Tuscany! You won't regret it! They directed me to walking paths, place to park the car, making dinner reservations, arranging taxis to the train station, making me custom cappuccino, recommending places to buy gifts and answered every little question I had. Maria and Anna Claudia always made us feel welcomed and always had a smile on their faces. It was really 5 star treatment and they are the very best. The room Quaint and comfortable. Rooms are of the average size but everything about it made me feel like I was home. The location Conveniently located in the center of Siena, where it was 5 min walking to each main site. The scenery is absolutely stunning, the apartments had good facilities (small kitchen, nice clean bathroom) and there was a nice big swimming pool shared by the apartments. For the wedding a dinner was organised in the castle courtyard with superb food and wine made from the castle vineyards and afterwards we had a big party in the courtyard at first and later between the buildings housing the apartments. For a wedding this is a real idyllic location. For a normal holiday it is also very nice as your pretty close to Sienna, Florence and all kinds of nice Tuscan towns, however you really need a car to get to places. Even if you only want to stay at the castle then you still need to get groceries and since the closest store is at least a few miles away you can't really get there without a car.

It's very old world, but then again, the entire region of Tuscany is trapped beautifully in time. Let me start by describing the grounds. The castelletto (little castle) is quite possibly the most charming property I have ever stayed at. Marco has decorated the entire place with gorgeous antiques, and what a job he has done! There is not a corner, nook or cranny in the entire place that has not been thought out and deliberately designed. The rooms are extremely comfortable and decorated in the same antique-esque style as the rest of the property. There is no television, but we were able to rent a movie (bravo for Ratatouille with English subtitles) one evening. You won't even need to watch television, because this place is all about relaxation. The pool area was my favorite. Overlooking the lush Tuscan scenery, the pool is breathtaking. I blurted out some profanities when I walked down and saw where I would be spending my afternoon swimming. The best part? They have a little kitchen area with a fridge full of alcohol (from beer to champagne) and another fridge and freezer full of goodies (ice cream, frozen lasagna, etc.) if you get hungry. Everything is on the honor system, so you just take what you want and then write it down in the log book. You get charged upon checkout. My boyfriend and I were all alone at the pool most of the afternoon, and we treated ourselves to a bottle of champagne and some ice cream. It literally felt like we were staying at a wealthy friend's house, left to our own devices. Very private. Very beautiful. And very accommodating and comfortable. The cherry on top is Marco and his staff. Utter professionals, they made our holiday worth every penny. They were so helpful, friendly, and funny! Marco's got jokes, I tell you! There is not a lot going on around the castelletto at night, but rent a car (how else would you even even get to this place?!) and go to neighboring towns for dinner and shopping. So many cool little surrounding villages to explore. And you get to come back and spend time on the roof of the Castelletto di Montebenichi with your nightcap cocktail (they have a complimentary bar). This place is perfection. I was very impressed by the beautiful villa and its proximity to town and by the organization of the excursions. Our room was large with amazing views from the windows. Each room has an ensuite bathroom and there is a lovely shared patio outside overlooking a wonderful outdoor pool and the famous tuscan landscape. Our group dinners in the villa were prepared by a local chef on site and included wine brought personally by local wine makers. This trip is a great value and definitely one I would do again.

For context we are a family from San Diego, California that regularly goes to Michelin level restaurants. So, that said a 1/5 stars review is not to say anything was terrible at Il Falconiere but I am holding it to the standard we know for Michelin starred establishments. The service was uneven at best. One guest in our party politely declined the welcome champagne as she does not drink alcohol and the waiter appeared downright offended. The Michelin standard in this situation would be to offer the non-alcoholic sparkling option as a substitute in my opinion which was not done, though she did later discover it on the menu and order a glass for herself. Our waiter also corrected one of the guests that "noodles are Chinese" when she was clarifying an order for one of the children at our table trying to order them pasta with cheese. Perhaps saying noodles is impolite in Tuscany but Michelin level service should not be rudely correcting guests like this. The food was fine but again for a one Michelin star restaurant the attention to detail just was not at that level. All four adults did the tour of Tuscany 6 course tasting menu while the children had pasta and chicken. Temperatures and textures were off and to be honest I can do better job at home with duck breast which was tough and gamey. Credit where it is due the pasta course was incredible and a standout. Lastly in terms of value this just does not stand up to other nearby restaurants in Cortona where we have regularly been impressed by the value and quality of meals. Just last night we had a meal for 9 (6 adults and 3 children) with multiple courses (appetizers, pasta, meat, dessert) and a bottle of wine for 350 euros out the door. Here lunch was 950 euros for 4 tasting menus and 3 children and a half bottle of champagne. Obscene prices for the quality compared to nearby Cortona restaurants. I had another dinner reservation here for later this week which immediately canceled after lunch. I cannot imagine spending more money here.

This hotel is one of the original historic monasteries that was converted to this 2025 Michelin award winning hotel. The service is impeccable. The food is outstanding. The property is more than worthy of a 5-star rating. Don't forget your bathing suit to take advantage of the spa. This is a must stay! Long Review: Cortona is one of the oldest cities in Italy, and this hotel is a tribute to all that history, of which the city's citizens are proud. When you arrive at the hotel, which is located atop the mountain within the walled off part of Cortona, you're greeted with a smile and invited to rest on one of the discreet lounge areas in the lobby. A welcome mocktail from their bar is soon brought to you and you're then taken on a tour of the hotel and introduced to its rich history and its restoration. They've preserved as much of the structure as possible and there are nods to the rituals of the monks and their faith everywhere, from monuments, statues, and paintings - all respectively woven into the modern decor of the hotel today. Then you're checked in and shown to your room by the front desk staff. Once inside, you are amazed by the well-stocked and appointed room. It's a very comfortable size, with its retained walls, windows and doors from the original structure - which means they are thick and do a very good job of keeping the noise out. I never heard any other guests or the chirping of birds when they woke in the morning. Also, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. I'd never slept better in a hotel! The bathroom is a nice size and has everything you need. The closet has enough room for two people to hang all their things and includes two bathrobes and slippers, as use of the spa is encouraged. There is a restaurant within the hotel - Osteria del Santo - which is a great way to start your first night there and get to know the amenities. The food is outstanding and the wait staff is there to serve your every need. The distinction here is that the staff takes the time to know you and your eating preferences because they are also your staff for breakfast. When they greet you in the morning for your complimentary made-to-order meal, you're welcomed in to your favorite coffee and the great service continues. I made an appointment to visit the spa. Its outstanding! First off, they limit the number of people who can use the spa in order to maximize each person's experience which is unheard of! Second, your visit is assigned in two hour blocks, so you really do get to experience the pool, the jacuzzis, the hot sauna, steam room, and relaxation room. There are two massage rooms and I'd highly recommend getting one. There are many services to choose from and my therapist was outstanding. If you want to relax and chill, a wading pool is in the garden outside and there are plenty of patio chairs and lounges to choose from. The view of the city and surrounding valley from the garden is impressive and the sunsets are stunning. Walking around the city is easy and your about a 4-minute walk to the City Center with lots of restaurants, shopping, museums and enotecos. It's such a quaint little town with such rich history and we ran into many Americans visiting the town. Clearly tourism is the main economy there and everyone is very accommodating and nice. Most people speak English so getting around is really easy. One thing to note is that this hotel being located at the top of the city means you need to walk up very steep hills to reach it. There are no taxis and the very narrow streets mean driving a car around is nearly impossible. So, if accessibility is an issue for you, you might want to consider a hotel closer to the main road in/out of town where it's relatively flat. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this establishment. You will not be disappointed!
