With the price of Organic honey going through the roof these days I was on line looking for a good local business/farm that that sold honeybee's when I came across Turtlebee farms in Howell. This business has an excellent Five star reputation on another search engine (Sorry Yelp but only three reviews on your site so far). Based on our experience in buying our bee's that rating was definately well deserved. The people running this business are very friendly, super courteous and very very knowledgeable. We talked to the Husband and wife and both took quite a bit of time giving us great guidance on the do's and don'ts of starting your own hive and exhibiting great patience/friendliness in answering all our many questions and concerns. Besides the many colonies of bee's they have (literally everywhere), they have all the equipment you need to pursue this hobby to include all the protective gear, tools and hive boxes (plain and decorated). Bee gear aside, they also sell honey and numerous bee wax products to include candles, deodorant, soap, lip balm, herbal salve, diaper cream, body balm and the list goes on. Also as this is a cattle farm as well, they sell grass fed beef to include sides and quarters of beef. Overall a great place to visit if you have ever had an itch to make your own organic honey. The product and the education you get from this business is top shelf and should not be missed. read more

My wife and I visited Turtlebee Farms and had a wonderful time. We spoke with the owners Tim & Kathie. They were very helpful and informative regarding their honey boxes and necessary supplies plus free classes for people new and interested in beginning honey beekeeping. Very nice folks to deal with. Received nice package of bees and purchased bee boxes & supplies from them as well. Great prices and friendly service. UPDATE: I just read the previous review and did not find these folks judgemental whatsoever nor did their religion ever come up in any of our 3 contacts/purchases with these folks. However, they do have scriptures written on their catalog & website which was the only way we knew for a fact they were christian. As for not knowing prices, they carry a lot of beekeeping supplies so that isn't surprising - Does the owner or employees of any store know all of the prices of items they sell? Very helpful with good knowledge of Bees, the products were outstanding. Met Tim and his wife at the Michigan Bee Conference in Lansing this past winter (it still may be winter) and was treated very well by all members of the family. I spoke with other people in the Bee Business and they all had very high opinions of Turtlebee Honeytree Farms, about their expertise with bees, and with providing good sustainable products from the farm. This business is run poorly. We called to arrange a tour for a large group of people. The owner was not aware of the prices and in fact lead us to believe that their was no cost for the adults. Their prices are 25 dollars for an adult and anywhere from 7 dollars to 25 for children. They claimed their business is equal to an amusement park. They are also judgemental against those who are not christian or do not hold a christian affiliation. If you do go on the tour, for your 25 dollars you get a wax candle and a test tube full of honey. They may have great products for sale but i would avoid dealing with this business whenever possible. read more
