I really like this place. My husband and I first went 1 year ago and then again last month. When we walked in it reminded both of us of the log ride at Knott's. Sounds silly, but it did! It just has that log ride smell to it and not in a bad way. They have two pool tables and a juke box. The bar top isn't very big. There's only about 6 or 7 seats if I recall correctly. She is lovely, informed and so friendly and makes a great drink. They use TouchTunes for music which is awesome. the original decor, structure and roaring fireplace make you feel right at home. Adding this review in hopes that it helps keep this establishment in business in our modern age of using Yelp as a deciding factor when deciding where to spend money: Born and raised in Orange County California my entire life. Upon reaching the typical age one enters when finally gaining the ability to drive; I think like most Californians, we all inevitably can recall a moment in time taking a cruise along Pacific Coast Highway. Depending on what you are looking for, going south bound on PCH leads into the more cleaner and elevated sights, sounds, and locations that is for sure a particular atmosphere for a specific demographic. On the flip side, going North is a unique contrast that offers a completely different experience compared to the South all the way towards Long Beach with Palos Verdes and the Palos Verdes Estate being that upper echelon checkpoint. Among the various beach cities you will find going South, the incorporated Mini City of Sunset Beach, which is similar in size to say Midway City, you may or may not encounter the dive bar known as Turcs. It is a rather small establishment that can understandably be missable due to its size, but unlike the modern cookie cutter building designs being made as a constant change in Orange County this building stands out with its eye catching exterior design. I took the leap finally going to the place since every time I drove past it, I would always imagine what the inside looked like. Safe to say the drapes match the curtains as the atmosphere is unique as it gets. I made the decision to venture in there during those hours where one should typically be at work on a weekday. Not sure what the vibes are like on weekends, but I'd like to believe that those off-beat hours ensures an experience and encounters you would never be able to have. The saying of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" is applicable in that regard as the mighty "Romans" aka Locals of Sunset City will be the usual patrons during those times. I cannot vouch exactly on what to expect, but all I can say is that if you enter with an open mind and receptive heart, you will be welcomed with open arms as if you were family. It's an absolute gem with a long standing historical presence that has survived the test of time. A Christian Epstein, who is a prolific local historian of the area, like segment on establishments highlighting the culture and memories of the people for the people. Cozy place. The sunset beach area is very chill and mellow. The staff were friendly. Had an Irish Whiskey with ginger ale and orange zest.

I have had some of the funnest nights of my life at this tiny dive bar. Granted, I came with a group of 10-15 people each time. But, it is dark and cozy in all the best ways. We have met weird people! Which is always a bonus. This area of Sunset is one of my favorite neighborhoods. I've never eaten food here. I didn't even know there was food. We usually end up walking to Harbour house or Woodys to eat after. read more

Bathrooms are single stalls. They have a TouchTunes jukebox - they probably got sick of my gangster/80's/metal/emo/boy band crap! I have lived in HB for 35 years and this was my first visit! I have been driving by this bar back and forth for 38 years! I was always wondering what was behind the vines! Looked it up 1.5 years ago (wont go into details) and seemed like a cool dive Tiki bar! Sent my daughters and friends to check it out! They came back with negativity from the bartenders to the patrons.. Wont go into details.. But not good for daughters and friends as they had to leave quickly! Sucked indeed! So I decided to check it out myself for the first time on 11/10/23 (on a long ride from HB)! Very intimidating to go into a long live local small bar by myself! Went in and stood next to a guy that looked at me and paused, then I looked at the bartender and she paused, but gave me a huge smile! Then the dude next to me started talking to me and was way cool! This amazing bartender named Snow, was the best human possible! She was so real and accommodating from the start! This gal is a gem and she is the reason I will be spreading the news for my family to come back! I havent been to a bar like this due to intimidation (or a bar for 10 years), but let me tell you, never judge a book by its cover, never judge people, never judge a bar by reviews and give everyone a second chance! STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun, old school sea shanty dive bar. The hubby and I've been meaning to check out this place for years, mostly because his last name is Turk, but it also looked like it could be a cool old bar. We finally got our chance on the way home from OC on PCH one evening and we decided that that was the night. Wouldn't you know it, they suffered a power outage just as we walked in, lol. The bartender said he could still serve us if we had cash, and we said yes. It was still early enough in the evening so it wasn't too crazy dark inside, and with just one other patron still left at the bar it felt rather cozy and conspiratorial, like a secret club. We were told that the owner was on his way with a generator so we decided to just get some drinks (we stuck to simple cocktails and beer) and take in the atmosphere in the meantime. The inside looked pretty much like the outside: old, but charming, all varnished old wood that could've been salvaged from shipwrecks and filled to the gills (haha) with all kinds of nautical and "tiki" bric-a-bric purchased for the bar's inception in 1953 and never changed or updated, just more stuff piled on top of the old stuff, making for an interesting melange bordering on the archaeological. Our kind of place, in other words. Our bartender was really cool and chill, and we ended up having a nice chat with him and the other person at the bar, a local regular. The generator arrived about an hour later, and when the lights came back on it added a more festive glow to all the stuff, but more people started to come in and the power outage spell was broken. All in all, a pleasant evening spent. I don't see becoming regulars here as it's a bit inconvenient when there are so many other great dive bars in our neighborhood within walking distance, but if we happen to be driving by and the urge hits us, we'll stop by again. read more

I love Turcs. Though not large, it's a very chill place. Enter off PCH in the corner of the building. The first room is small with low tables and a fireplace to the left, a ledge with barstools on the right, and the bar in the back. The bar has a wooden bar top with a rail to rest your forearms and a round footrest. Round padded, immovable barstools carved like tikis sit in front of the bar. They have a great back bar with one small tv and two beautiful fish tanks. The backroom has two pool tables and was packed on a Wednesday at 4pm. There is a small patio on the side of the front room accessible through the pool room. Being in the front room feels like you are in a small hut, supporting the bar's tiki theme. The atmosphere is very comfortable with lots of regulars and super friendly service. They play great music and nearly played an entire Alice cooper album (that is a good thing). Dealing with COVID by selling a $2 slice of pizza with any order seems fair to me. Plan to visit Turcs anytime I'm in the area. read more

Turcs is also one of my go to places in Sunset. The place is friendly and the bartenders are always nice. They have a full bar, so it's good for shots and mixed drinks. They are also one of the few bars that stay open in Sunset after midnight. So, I usually hit it up late as night. They have pool tables and a jukebox with an outside patio for smoking. Great place to go and just chill and throw back a few drinks before the night is over. read more

Cool bar but be careful of the guy behind the bar with the bad emo haircut, this poor guy was seemingly having a bad day. I'm not sure if he was drunk, high, or depressed but a few buddies of mine came in for our first time and this dude literally threw our IDs back at us across the counter. He was tipped poorly due to his attitude and he still had the balls to tell us that we should learn how to tip properly. Not sure if this is someone's son or something but he was eyeing us the rest of the night and just came across as a very weird person to be around. Definitely not a fan of this dive bar. Low quality liquor at outrageous pricing. I get the location but you don't get a ocean view to excuse your enormous costs. All, what bar doesn't have cranberry?
