Through several positive suggestions, I decided to finally check out Tulum. It's a small, sorta hip taqueria locating on the edge of Lehigh University. We ordered the mole burrito and the soft beef tacos...very basic and a true taste test. Well, they passed with flying colors! Not sure why Steven G didn't like the food. I found both items to be very tasty with ample portions. The mole was prepared somewhat mildly, but they had a myriad of different homemade sauces that you can use to spicen it up. They actually use real shredded beef for the tacos, not the ground meat you often see. It was very good and came with a side of black beans and rice. Prices tend to be a bit pricy for what it actually is. But when you're spending around $6-$8 for a quick, substantial meal, you can't really complain. The guys working there are pretty cool and the food was prepared timely. They have a good variety of both burritos and tacos on the menu (some even veggie-friendly). They don't have long hours (I think they close by 9pm on any given night) so I wouldn't say this place is good for late night eats. However, it's still a great little place to grab a quick bite. read more

I want so badly to be nice to this place. The burritos are significantly more flavorful and creative than Hello Burrito, their mom-and-pop counterpart across the river. My last one there had what I believe had to be cabbage. It probably wouldn't be everyone's style, but I loved that unexpected cruciferous SNAP! of the first bite. And the lived-in, homegrown slacker vibe feels like the real deal, even though the TV playing spots seems out of placel (even though I suspect it mostly plays eurosports, which I guess are the best you can do until we get televised roller derby). But the slacker vibe at Tulum extends to the service, and if it had just happened once, I'd take it as an off day. But I had to wait nearly 25 minutes for a burrito one time, when after everyone else had ordered, I eventually was the only one left waiting. Chipotle it ain't. Tried them again several months later, and, while it wasn't quite 25 minutes, I was again the only one there, waiting, waiting, waiting and.. "Oh! Did you have the chorizo?" "Yeah." "Here it is."Reached out from behind the counter and gave me a bag that had just been sitting there. No apologies, and no acknowledgement that they had forgotten their ONLY CUSTOMER. This is my favoritest Mexican restaurant in the Lehigh Valley area. Cali burrito, how I love thee freshly fried fish tacos and bacon-tasting tofu, but any place that does a minirrito, puts mahi mahi on their menus and serves chicken wings gets my top vote. From the outside, the place looks very non-descript. I couldn't tell if the restaurant was open/closed. The inside is nicely decorated but tiny. It is best for small groups or takeout. I went there with 4 other people a few nights ago and we arrived at the same time as a couple. It was pretty funny as seemingly civilized folk scrambled for tables and chairs. To start, we had an order of guacamole and chicken wings. The guacamole was good and the nacho chips fried perfectly (Cali Burrito's can sometimes be overdone), the portion was a little small for $5, but I guess avocados don't come cheap anymore. According to the guy behind the counter, the chicken wings were "to die-for" and he was totally right. Everyone inhaled those juicy, crunchy, spicy bits of heaven. If you ever go there, and can only order one thing, get the wings. For our mains, two of us had the "Two soft tacos" special, which comes with rice n beans. Since they were out of mahi-mahi, we tried the pork, beef and veggie tacos. The pork and beef tacos were excellent. The veggie taco was a close second. I was a little disappointed with my rice n beans though. I thought it lacked flavor and needed a little salt. Another must-try is the mole burrito. I'm not usually a fan of mole -- I tend to find it too sweet -- but this was done just right. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't get to try the mahi mahi. Maybe living in California has spoiled me or maybe they were having an off day but either way the food here was not good. This place had a menu full of burritos with unique names but I just wanted a chicken burrito plain and simple. What I got was a chicken burrito that had no flavor. The shredded chicken was good quality but it wasn't seasoned at all and it was dry. There was rice, beans and some kind of coleslaw inside. And the salsas on the counter did not help at all. My burrito was also very small for the $8 price tag considering I could get a burrito twice that size for $5 in Cali. It's only saving grace are the chips which are delicious. read more

Wow. This place is amazing. Real small, 15 person seating inside. They have a deck out back but didn't explore it. The food was really good, I got the mini burrito with pork and the hot sauce was spot on. The women behind the counters were super nice, smart and extremely helpful. LOVE the tattoos! I really wanted to like Tulum. I really did. The food, however, made it impossible. I ordered the Molé veggie miniritto. It sucked. The molé tasted like chocolate syrup, which was gross (molé, by the way, while including chocolate, should not taste like Hershey's syrup). Vegetables + chocolate syrup = ew. The chips and guacamole were pretty good. A few of the chips had a weird texture, but otherwise, I was happy with that. The interestingly traditional-sounding menu items and the hole-in-the-wall, yet super cute, interior were really the only other redeeming qualities of Tulum. I don't know, maybe I went on a bad day...everyone else seems to love this place, which is why I went there. read more

Great "Beth-Mex" cuisine. As a Lehigh U. student I've been to Tulum a bunch of times. Been very pleased with everything I've tried, from breakfast burritos, to chorizo quesadilla, to the fantastic Tulum wings (think sweet and spicy). Burritos are approximately the size of a football. You won't feel like moving after eating one. The quesadillas are very tasty. The cheese always oozes out a bit around the edge, and gets that slightly burnt, crispy thing that makes it great. I know I mentioned them above, but the wings are worth mentioning again. Probably some of, if not THE best I've had in the Valley. Huge wings. But the sauce is the real star here. Sweet, smoke, spicy. Probably my favorite menu item. Ingredients are fresh, lots of sauces/salsas to try on the front counter. On nicer days they have an outdoor seating area out the back of the place with some picnic style tables. Great people that run the place. Always nice, knowledgeable and willing to please. read more

We really like the food, it's always fresh, and unique veggies. I love the kale incorporation into the burritos/bowls. Also love the house made hot sauces. The only thing I would recommend is marinating the chicken to give it more flavor. It can be bland otherwise. read more

Coming from California, I know what good Mexican should taste like. Does Tulum taste like good Californian Mexican food? No. But once you accept that it's not Californian Mexican food, one can enjoy the delicious Beth-Mex for what it is, and what it is is pretty damn good. I've gone several times and each time I've ordered the Mayan burrito. I get it every time because I'm one of those people who orders the same thing over and over again once they find something they really like. The pineapple salsa is absolutely delicious and compliments the guacamole well. My only complaint is sometimes the amount of guacamole is a little sparse for my taste. Definitely add some of their salsas to the burrito because on their own, they are not spicy at all. This place can get pretty busy around lunch time so be prepared for a 15 min wait for your food. I finally checked out Tulum for the first time the other day. I've heard both good and bad things, long waits, &c. For me, the wait was kind of long. But not any more than any other takeout, probably, so I can't complain. The interior is tiny, I can see this place getting jammed up but there's one thing that makes all that stuff not matter for half a second: the food. wow. An 8 dollar burrito is not a lot of money (as one of my friends complained about Tulum) especially considering that the stuff they put on these burritos is great. I had a chorizo burrito and it was packed full of brilliant stuff. This is no shredded lettuce and junk-from-a-can joint; the ingredients are great. Love this place! It's so annoying to see some people say it's not authentic or like your traditional taco or burrito. Well no $h¡t! They call themselves "Beth-Mex" for a reason! It's a Bethlehem spin on your traditional Mexican food. I personally love the Toasted Almond Veggie taco and am also guilty of getting that as a burrito from time to time. So good! I love the collard greens and sweet potato they mix in with their burritos. The house made sauces are a great accompaniment to any dish! Also I hear their wings are out of this world. I don't eat meat but I'll take my boyfriends word for it. He gets a half order every time we go! Service is quick and friendly. And prices are reasonable. Great vegetarians and vegan options. Great burritos! The trick is to order your burrito with half meat/half veggies. They normally put in way too much meat (in my opinion), but the half-n-half balances perfectly and doesn't cost extra. Or get the Oaxacan chorizo burrito with just veggies since it already has chorizo in it. The place is a bit small but in the warmer months they have extra seating outdoors. Also the service is a bit slow but that's partly because they grill their ingredients to order, which I think makes for a nicer result than the assembly-line method. read more

This place really isn't worth visiting. It's cute, and the food tastes authentic in a way. But maybe it's not the right way... Does that make sense? Let me explain... The venue is very tiny. It seats maybe 10-15 people. I'm not sure how they even have a kitchen because it's so small! But they offer takeout, which is good. However, if you spend more than 30 seconds in this place you will walk out smelling like Mexican food. So if you're getting takeout just so you don't smell like food, think again. The food gets the same reaction. I've had the verde burrito (think that's what it's called) and it was kind of flavorless. They don't season the chicken, or the rice, or the beans, so all that was left for me to taste was the green salsa, which just tasted like tomatillos. Lovely. Stopped here before a tour of Lehigh and I was not disappointed. I got the verde burrito and although I was a little hesitant about the "crisp tropical salad" it went very well with the burrito. Also got the chips and guac and I am not usually a guac person but I couldn't get enough of them. The chips are thick, but they compliment nicely with the guacamole. One thing to keep in mind is that it is quite small in there and mostly does carry out so be prepared for that. The servers there were kind and made sure we had everything we needed. read more

Got take out here last night and it was very good - I was pleasantly surprised! My friends who live here in Bethlehem get Tulum's take out quite often but I'm not a fan of Mexican food so I have always 'passed'. Last night, since my boyfriend is here with me this time and he likes Mexican too, I figured I'd give it a go. I got the Mayan Grilled Vegetable minirrito. First of all, how clever to have a minirrito!! It was a perfect size for my stomach. It was very flavorful and totally hit the spot. I got a veggie burrito once from a taqueria in San Mateo, CA and it was SO bland...mainly, it was stuffed with unseasoned grilled zucchini and squash and the whole thing was totally watery which made the tortilla mushy. So Tulum's veggie burrito was like heaven in comparison...the Mayan one I got comes with roasted pineapples and corn and avocado. Plus, they put some green leafy vegetable inside (I also saw it on my boyfriend's taco) - not sure what it is but it's crunchy and adds to the texture of the dish. On top of all that, the customer service was great. I ordered mine without rice and sour cream and they made it that way without any negativity. I definitely look forward to going back! I've been to Tulum 3 or 4 times, and I've really enjoyed it every time. We wanted to go eat there last night, but because it's so tiny, the only 3 tables were taken, and we didn't want to do take out. So, we ended up going today for lunch instead. It was empty when we got there, a little after noon, though that's probably because of the big snowstorm overnight--every other time I've been there, it's been packed. I usually go for the Beth-Mex burrito, which is always delicious, though this time I decided to go with the beef soft-shell tacos. I was a bit disappointed, as they didn't have nearly the amount of flavor I was expecting. However, I don't really consider it a knock against Tulum, since it's mainly a burrito place, and it's been amazing every other time I've eaten there. Definitely don't plan on eating there if you're going during a peak time, it fills up very fast, and if you eat there, you'll be smelling like burritos for a while afterwards. Also, they don't take cards (except for Lehigh GoldPlus), so make sure to bring enough cash with you. Burritos are about $8 a piece, and are huge, so you definitely get your money's worth. I'd consider this a must if you're in the Bethlehem area, and though I've only ever had the Beth-Mex burrito, I've heard both the Chorizo and Wingarito burritos are amazing as well. read more

The wingaritto is hands down the best tasting burrito in the Lehigh Valley. I'm actually sad when I'm finished eating it, I wish it would never end. So delicious!! Hands down, the best burrito spot in the Lehigh Valley, maybe the East coast! I have never enjoyed a burrito so much as I have at Tulum. With fresh ingredients and a friendly atmosphere, Tulum has been a hot spot in Bethlehem ever since they opened. I recommend you go there regularly until you've sampled their entire menu, rinse and repeat as needed. I expected to be impressed by this place because of all the good reviews, but I just wasn't feeling it. First of all, way overpriced. I don't know what everyone is talking about when they say how huge the burritos are. They're really not that big. I was still hungry after eating mine, but had no more money to spend. I actually had to check with the worker there to make sure she had given me the right size because it looked only a tiny bit larger than my friend's burrito (which was the smaller size and, I think, about $2 cheaper). Personally, I think $8 for a moderately-sized burrito is too much. It was tasty, though, I'll give them that. My other gripe is that they don't take cards as payment, but I did not see ANY sign anywhere stating this. As a result, I ordered my food expecting to pay with a card since almost all restaurants can do this nowadays, only to have to run down the street to the ATM to get cash before I could get my food. I thought I must have just missed the sign, but sure enough, after I checked again, there was none. I don't understand why they couldn't just put up a "cash only" sign. It's not that hard and would have saved me a bunch of trouble. read more

The place is small and cute. The service is very friendly. I got 3 burritos to go, and they were DELICIOUS. It wasn't overpriced, clearly they try to feed Lehigh students a decent, mostly healthy burrito. My son had the chicken Beth-Mex, and really liked it. My wife had the Mayan which is like pineapple and avocado, with grilled mahi-mahi, and I had the Oaxacan Chorizo Burrito. If you get that ask them to add veggies, they put kale in, and it adds a nice crunch and offsets the saltiness of the chorizo. This place is better than any of the chain burritos so skip the drive all the way to Chipotle and get a better fresher burrito at Tulum. read more

Order chips and salsa and it was literally a basket with chips and like three tablespoons of red liquid I assumed was their "salsa" in a tiny plastic container. Best burritos in the valley, period. Cali Burrito is a not-so-close second. There's just something special about how all the tastes come together in one Tulum's burritos. I live in Emmaus and am more than happy to make a 30-minute drive one way to buy one of these gems. The reviewer "Zuri" who gave Tulum a one star said, "I just wanted a chicken burrito, plain and simple." My response to him ~ you went to the wrong restaurant.
