i 1-Star Review - Terrible Customer Service, Greed, and an Unacceptable Experience…read more My daughter and I visited Color Me Mine Red Deer to paint a ceramic fish as a special Father's Day gift for her dad. What should have been a beautiful family experience turned into one of the most upsetting experiences I have ever had. I accidentally tripped over a shelf, causing a ceramic piece displayed on it to fall. I immediately tried to catch it and prevent it from breaking, but unfortunately, it broke. It was an accident, not something I did intentionally. The Filipino staff member who was serving us handled the situation in an extremely rude, arrogant, and confrontational manner. He insisted that I pay $50 for the broken ceramic, which had not even been fired in the kiln, and demanded that I take the broken piece home. I was willing to pay for the ceramic my daughter and I had actually come to paint, which had already cost us nearly $90, but I did not believe I should be forced to pay for a separate item that was accidentally broken. The situation escalated, and the police were eventually called. When the officer arrived and heard what had happened, he told me that I should not feel obligated to pay for the item because it had been an accident. He also spoke with my daughter and helped calm her down because she was crying. During the incident, the owner or manager communicated with the staff member by phone. When the owner or manager arrived, he shouted at me in front of the police officer and my six-year-old daughter. The way I was treated was completely unacceptable. I admit that, after being pushed to my limit by the situation, I became upset and insulted the employee. I was overwhelmed by the confrontation and the way I was being treated. My daughter was hungry, and I needed to take her somewhere to eat. I eventually left to get her food because I wanted to put an end to the distressing situation. They had threatened to sue me, and I was prepared to face whatever legal action they claimed they would take rather than be intimidated into paying for something I believed I should not have to pay for. What disgusted me most was the apparent lack of empathy. The staff seemed more concerned about collecting money than treating customers with dignity and finding a reasonable solution. Their behaviour turned what should have been a special Father's Day memory into a painful experience for my daughter, who ended up crying and had to be comforted by a police officer. This experience left me with the impression that this establishment is greedy and cares more about money than customer service. I understand that accidents happen and that businesses have policies, but there is no excuse for shouting at a customer in front of a child and creating such a hostile environment. Another major concern is how the ceramics are displayed inside the store. The ceramic pieces are left out on open shelves rather than being safely protected in display cabinets. The space is small and crowded with too many items placed close together, without what I consider to be an appropriate arrangement to prevent accidents. It is very easy for someone to accidentally bump into a shelf and knock a ceramic piece over. Based on my experience, I strongly advise parents to be careful if they choose to bring their children here. If a ceramic piece accidentally falls, you may be expected to pay for it, and, based on what happened to me, you may also face extremely unpleasant treatment from the staff. Families should be able to enjoy a creative activity without feeling intimidated or worrying that one accidental movement could turn their visit into a distressing confrontation. I strongly advise other parents to think carefully before bringing their children here. Based on my personal experience, the lack of compassion, respect, and professionalism was shocking. I will never return to Color Me Mine Red Deer, and I cannot recommend this place to other families. A business that offers family activities should understand the importance of making families feel welcome and safe, not turning a special day into a painful memory.
