DO NOT RENT HERE!! It's cheap for a reason. We rented a minivan, a very basic camper van for our trip around the South Island. The van was very old, a 2008 model with over 300,000 miles. One day we cracked the plastic cover on the tail light when backing into a parking space because there isn't a back up camera and there was a metal planter that we didn't see. We notified them right away. They told us it wouldn't be too expensive to fix. Then after we returned the van and went back home they charged us $1200 NZ for it! The reason it was so expensive is because the van is SO OLD that they couldn't just replace the plastic light cover, they special ordered an entire taillight assembly from Japan. They also took 6 weeks to give us any kind of receipt to explain why it was so expensive. read more

Unfriendly, should have given zero stars. The staff was only interested in the administrational stuff. When the signatures were through and they managed to talk you into an additional insurance, you get the feeling to disturb their coffee routines. read more

Stay away from these scam artists. Cars are really crappy, shady terms and you get hit with tons of admin fees after returning vehicles Campervan had a ton of issues 1. Air did not work 2. Fridge never worked with vehicle off 3. Radio flaky 4. Gps not provided None of the issues were resolved and on top of it ended up with ridiculous admin fee charges Could go on and on but tldr do not do business with this company read more

We hired a car for nearly two months. It was very worn off and filthy and certainly not worth the price we paid. When we returned the car, we were asked to pay an infringement. When we looked at the paper we saw (they hadn't checked on that) that it was from last year, when we certainly weren't in NZ. We were promissed that they sort it out, but our credit card was still beeing charged. I would certainly not recommend these cars. Beware that the size of the mattress is 1.10 m x 1.85 m. So if you are not 2 really small people, you need a tent and extra mattress! Our advice: Just rent a good sized car and buy a decent sized tent for you travels. NZ- campsites are wonderful and mostly very well equipped. The places for tents are usually really nice! read more

This has to be one of the WORST experiences in our life!!!Here is my warning to potential camper van renters in New Zealand.DO NOT repeat NOT go anywhere near TUI Campers(Auckland & Christchurch).Never ever! Unless of course you guys are so very desperate & don't care!!We hired a 4 berth Trail Blazer(Ford) camper van on rental from the 21st December 2015 to 28th Dec 2015 with manual shift. The tariff was $360 per day & the whole deal was lousy as hell. While booking a camper (we reside in Melbourne) 2 months earlier we requested an automatic transmission, but had no other choice & accepted this rubbish with a manual transmission. The request for an auto transmission was done via the Christchurch H.O. speaking to a NON Human so called female called TRUDY (Operations Manager). This female was the rudest human ever.As I had already paid upfront the full booking fee of $3300 had no option whatever but to go ahead with this manual vehicle. Now the vehicle itself was second hand IKEA ex-rental one & had done nearly 200000kms with shonky dampers & shock absorbers (if they ever existed).I had two lady passengers sitting right at the rear end of the camper & they endured a NIGHTMARISH experience for about 2200 kms. They are yet to completely recover!NOT exaggerating here!Lastly at the beginning of the trip when we landed in Auckland the courtesy van that picked us up had a slippery flooring that contributed to my fall while getting off.I have a broken nail in my middle left hand & pain in my lower back. So please heed my warning & take care!! Do not use TUI Campers for any kind of camper bookings ever!!! read more

Quick review of our experience with freedom/tui/budget campers in Auckland, it's worth thinking about it before booking. The short version is you might end up with a working van, or you might not. If you think putting the holiday budget on black and seeing how it goes then they are the van for you. If spending a week in a clunky hothouse with broken aircon on wheels, reliant on filling up an esky/chilly bin/cheap bucket every few hours with ice to keep your food cold as the fridge doesn't work isn't for you then probably look else where. They didn't think it was too much of an issue to be in a glass room with virtually no ventilation during a heat wave and very begrudgingly gave use 1.5 days refund rather than the two we asked for to take it to a comparable model and the costs due to ruined food, ice and eating out costs. Any issues are your problem if they can't fix them due to short working hours and not offering a 7-day service, yep being asked to stay around in Auckland for another 3 days to have it fixed wasn't an option..... so in summary, if you like to take a gamble hire from here, you might get lucky, but if you aren't a gambler go elsewhere. read more

A bad company! We rented a camper for a month in January from Christchurch to Auckland. Being high season the price was exorbitant. Unlike larger companies, we had to pay the whole amount in advance without having seen the car. Having booked from Italy, we sent many emails asking for information and they responded only at the time of request of paying the balance. We should have realised, at that moment, that it was not a serious company. At the time of delivery, we realized that the vehicle was dated and that there were many problems with it. The internal table was broken and could not be blocked. That evening the battery of the vehicle started to have problems. The heating and the boiler did not turn on and the fridge was also not working properly. We postponed the departure from Christchurch, losing visits and two precious days of vacation! The thing, however, which was more serious, was that we had taken out additional insurance to cover any possible damage which instead has proved a huge rip off: 850 New Zealand Dollars thrown away. Upon delivery of the vehicle, the hasty and incompetent staff confirmed again that the additional insurance coverage was TOTAL (not even bothered to tell us that the emergency spare wheel was located under the car, impossible to see it, in case of a tyre puncture!!!). Certainly taking advantage of the difficulties that a foreigner may have with their legal terms, they voluntarily failed to give us any clarification necessary. Conclusion: the damage to the vehicle, were not included. During the trip we had a small incident with a low wall coming out from the gas station and scratched the passenger side. Result: the insurance, which covers not at all small incidents, was useless. We therefore had to pay a disproportionate amount to the company for the repair. We have always rented camper in Australia and something like this has never happened! If you decide to rent a camper, do not do it with this company! They are real thieves! read more
