I'd booked us a snorkel and bio bay tour in town and we'd driven hours to get here from San Juan (amateur mistake but a happy accident since we got to discover a new part of the island!) we needed a spot that was still serving dinner before the long drive back home and found La Jamaca by chance. The pretty lights in the pool and laidback vibe were so welcoming, and then the food-- all authentic Puerto Rican fare made incredibly well-- really sealed the deal. We decided on that night to get married on the island, which happened six months later (though closer to SJU just to simplify for my side of the family.) We have been visiting the island regularly ever since, but only made our way back to this side this weekend, since we were planning to see in laws in Lares the next day and this would be closer than the East side where we were, so we got to eat here AND spend the night at last. I was worried maybe I was rewriting it through a nostalgic lens but when our food came out -- wow. It was JUST as delicious as I remembered. You cannot beat this place for perfectly prepared, heaping portions of delicious Puerto Rican cuisine. They started us out with a complimentary cup of plantain soup which was a tasty, perfect way to whey the appetite - and gave my husband strong nostalgia since it was always his grandmother's fav. We decided to split an app and entree and it wound up being more than enough food-- to be opulent we did the lobster mofongo with garlic and started with the churrasco con queso empanadas (three in an order and they're the full size, so... BIG!) The mofongo was moist and flavorful, with a ton of lobster peppered around it, cooked to garlicky perfection, and the empanadas had a gorgeous crust and flavorful chunks of steak with melty mozzerella. Everything was divine and we were so happy we got to try the food here again and that it was still so wonderful. It's off the beaten path and in a cute low key spot - but i would wager this stands up to any meal you'd get in the center of town.

The pastelillos are AMAZING! I've been trying to find a good lobster pastellio allll over the island and THIS place had the best! It was fresh, lobster was tasty, and the dough was crispy and delicious. Also LOVED the arroz con gandules. You can tell the sofrito they cook with is banging! We also had the crab and chicken pastelillos. Which were good. Their piña coladas are strong but tasty. The ambiance is chill with open air dining and eclectic seating. Definitely NOT a fancy place. Rustic and quaint with great music. Traditional Puertorican love music playing while the breeze hits from the ocean feet away from us was everything. Not sure what other people were talking about them not having bathrooms or people being rude. We used the bathroom there (fine, again NOT fancy) and the woman who served us was so sweet and friendly. Wondering how many negative reviews are from those hoping to drive them out and buy their land since they're surrounded by big money homes...just saying. I wish we were more hungry because I'd love to try more food. Til next time! There WILL be a next time :)

It's a homemade, hearty meal so it's healthy and sits really pleasant in the stomach. Remember this is not a fancy restaurant but it definitely hits the spot after a day at the beach in Guilligans Island. I would have to agree with the rest of the reviews, the staff is a bit on the rude side when it comes to serving at the cafetín and providing ferry service.
