Wow. "What a mess" was my first impression.

Confusing as you know what. The TSA checkpoint at Pittsburgh Airport is an airport on steroids. There are so many lines and so many signs. I arrived at the airport knowing how confused I could be. I stood behind everything to see what's going on first. From behind or under the elevator, I heard a monotone voice to direct travelers to the alternative checkpoint. Not until I went downstairs to get in line, a security guard telling people to go up escalator to the alternate line. Then, I saw the speed difference at each checkpoint. Ok. Standard line is normally slowest. I got TSA PreCheck, as my second time using it. Line went down so fast. I was still preparing to put stuff on the belt. TSA agent used the little coin trays to separate carry-on bags between passengers. What about my keys and wallet? The agent was busy telling me to take everything metal out of my pockets to any of my bags. So weird. Overall, TSA checkpoint seemed to be in orderly fashion. I got my TSA PreCheck to work it should.

Shout out to the ladies and gents at Pgh international for finding my wedding band Monday evening after losing it in security. They were super professional and helpful and I am eternally thankful for them not giving up. Thanks folks! Go Steelers!

Whole process took less than 10 minutes. Everyone was pleasant. Multiple lines open, they have a digital check in as well

What a pleasant surprise! TSA that are quick and competent. Chicago airports can learn something from Pittsburgh's procedures.

The line for screenings at PIT returned back to normal, extended long lines past the airport glass doors.

I had to recently check a bag and we didn't even have to wait for our luggage to come out since it was already on the belt waiting for us when we got there. There's a lot more food and beverage options now although I usually just go to The Club lounge which has okay offerings but is free with priority pass. My one gripe is that the parking situation is more confusing now. To get the least expensive parking you have to park further away and can no longer just walk through the parking lot into the airport and have to take a shuttle.

Currently, this airport has a few dozen casual restaurants and about a few dozen retail stores. This airport has mostly domestic flights and only a handful of direct international flights. Current airlines include Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Breeze, British, Delta, Frontier, Icelandair, JetBlue, Southern, Southwest, Sun Country, and United. When I am planning my flights, I usually have to purchase connecting flights in larger airports such as New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston, etcetera. My husband and I have flow in and out of this airport since 2013. Our most recent flights were in March 2026. My husband and I easily found a parking space for our vehicle in the long-term lot, although the fees were expensive and cost hundreds of dollars. We experienced few problems with going through the TSA checkpoint, interacting with American Airlines employees, eating at a restaurant, or claiming our baggage. The new facilities look beautiful.

Here are just a few pluses: - No parking fees! - The cheapest AV gas in the region! - Everyone is so nice and there is an awesome Italian restaurant on-site. As Stacey mentions, the Regional airports have charm that you won't find in the huge International airports. The runways are a nice length. 3 and 21 are over 5,000 ft and 12 and 30 are a little smaller at 3,500 ft but still plenty enough length to land smaller one-engine airplanes. It has a full ILS (instrument landing system) and MALSR approach lights which help you fly in here at night. It's a great place to fly in and a decent place to eat right at the airport with the Prima Barone restaurant being a decently classy and awesome place. Bonus live music on Friday night's (which I haven't experienced yet). I see myself making many more trips up here. It's a really fun airport to fly into!

Located in Franklin, the Regional Airport mostly serves for private plane owners, but United offers service from Cleveland to Franklin. It is a very tiny airport and I am completely in love with it. This regional airport has all the small town charm that you will never find in an international airport. There is one terminal, one baggage claim, and no waiting. One of the airport employees waited with me until my ride arrived because he was concerned. When was the last time an airport employee showed any concern when a ride didn't arrive on time? Here, it is just how it's done! On my return trip I checked in with a smiling United worker. Sure, there was a kiosk I could have used, but she helped me out. My family was able to sit with me for an hour before TSA did their screening. I had to walk through their only metal detector while talking with the nicest TSA agents ever. They even offered us passengers umbrellas to use as we walked to the plane in the pouring rain! The service was great. The airport is quaint. They have some history of the region on the walls and a restaurant attached. It's not a state of the art facility, but it's not worn down either. In truth it is rather lovely!
