I have flown many many times out of this airport and always have used the TSA pre check. I find it quicker and easier than the regular lines. I have never had any issues and have always gone right threw the checkpoint. I have never had any issues with the TSA staff have always found them friendly and professional. read more

For many years, my husband and I have gone through this Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint at the Pittsburgh International Airport. We use either the main or alternate lines, and we have never used the pre-check or first-class lines. Of course, the lines of passengers can be long, but the employees usually efficiently and politely move us along. My husband and I always carefully pack our bookbags and have our travel documents, and we follow the rules about what we are allowed to wear through the full-body scanners, so we have experienced no major problems. read more

Confusing as you know what. The TSA checkpoint at Pittsburgh Airport is an airport on steroids. There are so many lines and so many signs. I arrived at the airport knowing how confused I could be. I stood behind everything to see what's going on first. From behind or under the elevator, I heard a monotone voice to direct travelers to the alternative checkpoint. Not until I went downstairs to get in line, a security guard telling people to go up escalator to the alternate line. Then, I saw the speed difference at each checkpoint. Ok. Standard line is normally slowest. I got TSA PreCheck, as my second time using it. Line went down so fast. I was still preparing to put stuff on the belt. TSA agent used the little coin trays to separate carry-on bags between passengers. What about my keys and wallet? The agent was busy telling me to take everything metal out of my pockets to any of my bags. So weird. Overall, TSA checkpoint seemed to be in orderly fashion. I got my TSA PreCheck to work it should. read more

The tsa line was the longest in time - longer than the regular line. TSA is now absorbing the CLEAR people as well. We both paid for expedited tsa services. This has now become the norm - limiting us to two lanes regardless of volume. read more

I walked into the airport at ~3:45pm on Monday, 9/4/23 (Labor Day). TSA General line all the way back into the parking tunnel (never seen it like that before!). Nearly immediately after making my way to the back of it, the line started to move. There is an "alternate security" checkpoint at PIT...but it was closed when I arrived. I assume they opened at 4pm, and that made the line shrink. They have monitors that show wait times for all lines (General, pre-check, first/proffered and alternate)... and by the time I got to them the longest was ~23 mins. I think I got through in less than 20. Well done, and thanks to the team for working on Labor Day. read more

In line before the checkpoint I saw a sign explaining that you can get fined up to $13,910 for threatening or verbally abusing TSA agents. I thought, "Oh, that's too bad they have to put up signs like that." After making it through the checkpoint, I thought, "Oh, I kind of get it now." For instance, one seemingly very annoyed agent (a black guy) was constantly lecturing at least 50% of the passengers, who didn't read the tiny signs telling them NOT to take electronics out of the bags (like you have to do at every other US airport unless you have a bag with a special laptop compartment). This guy was making everyone stop and consolidate all their stuff into a giant pile in one bin, as if that would make things go faster. (It didn't. Think of the X-ray operator sitting there trying to visually sort out such a giant pile.) And of course, he made sure to instruct all the offenders NOT TO FORGET NEXT TIME!!! (Unless you find yourself in literally any other US airport, I guess.). And heaven forbid you don't rotate your tray in the direction necessary for the tray to fit into the opening of the machine down the line. He also berated a senior citizen for picking up a tray from the wrong pile... you know, the OTHER pile right next to the conveyor belt, which contains trays small enough to fit in the machine no matter which way they are rotated. I forgot to take my wallet out of my pocket, so next I had to face the dead-eyed agent (a white guy) who had to search me. He would mumble unintelligibly at me until I would turn the wrong way, or whatever, and he would suddenly grab me. Anyway, I feel sorry for the employees there. Whoever is in charge has no common sense, and makes their lives hell. read more

The line for screenings at PIT returned back to normal, extended long lines past the airport glass doors. It was the same way 10 years ago. This time, my TSA Pre-check saved me about 45 minutes. I was able to zoom through TSA within 10 minutes. The person checking my ID was very professional and friendly which I appreciated. This was a good experience going home from Pittsburgh TSA. read more

So the TSA Pre-check line had about 30 people in line. The non-TSA pre-check line had nobody. I was confused. Isn't it usually the other way round? I thought I had read the signs wrongly. So I zoomed right past everyone who had TSA pre-check. #winning read more

I am writing this prior to my upcoming NY trip because I have used their services before. What is nice is that you can call them ahead of time if you have questions. The number can be found on their website. I have learned that if you have had an injury such as a foot they will accommodate you by giving you a manual inspection without having to remove your medical boot. You must request this however. It is also interesting to note that Pittsburgh International has a 2nd checkpoint on the far back of the landslide terminal. You can be redirected there if the main one is busy. TSA pre checks are great provided you get it noted when you check into your flight. You don't have to remove your shoes and there is less you need to take off. TSA pre checks come if you fly first class or if you wish to purchase it. Unless you do a lot of flying it is not worth the money. Sometimes you will get lucky and get it for one leg of your trip. The lines at Pittsburgh international are not as bad as in other cities since there is less people. I have found to obey their instructions and you will have no problem getting through. The staff has always been professional and helpful to me. Just give yourself enough time to check in so you can be at your gate in time for your scheduled departure. read more

Another sad state of affairs when it comes to TSA Pre check. Why pre check if the folks don't know what to look for. 25 min wait for secondary screen. No one helps the others...watching this one poor soul struggle. Sad. When will this function be taken over by national private company? More and improved training please? Smdh! read more

It's. TSA checkpoint... Not much more to say. Depends on the day and time you come through who is there and what kind of travelers they have dealt with. I came to this checkpoint because TSA dude at the main checkpoint said it would be faster, for up here and found just as long a line, moving just as slow. Again, will depend on timing. TSA staff have been courteous so far, but I try really hard to not give them a reason not to be. They have a tough job, people can be jerks, so I try to be as friendly as possible. That being said, sometimes TSA agents just need to pull their head out of their arse. Like the agent discussing with an older gentlemen that he can't bring his knife. Explaining all his options, etc... Except instead of pulling him over to the side, he proceeded to have this conversation right in front of the belt where bags come out of the X-ray.... Meanwhile, people are blocked from getting their stuff, and people (and bags) begin to back up, and the aggravation on everyone's face begins to grow.... Common sense still applies..... read more

What a pleasant surprise! TSA that are quick and competent. Chicago airports can learn something from Pittsburgh's procedures.

The TSA can go pound sand, their security theater does not make anyone safer and their asinine rules about harmless pocketknives and lack of options for dealing with them is infuriating and pointlessly deprives regular people of their property. That pocket knife meant a lot to me as it was given to me by my now-fiancé when I earned my Eagle Scout Rank. The smug TSA agent that took it could not be reasoned with. The fact that I have cleared at least 5 checkpoints with it before either means the TSA is grossly incompetent and useless at enforcing their own rules or that particular agent just decided I was going to get the shaft today. Rude. Grumpy TSA agent told me to "shoes don't go in the tray and computer goes in a tray by itself. "It's been that way for a long time." He said this after I had passed through security. Why even say it at that point? Before putting my stuff through I asked the agent whether I needed to take my computer out of the case. He said no, and he clearly saw that it was in the tray with my belt. Uncoordinated. And why add "it's been that way for a long time?" I have better things to do than read up on the panicked, disorganized rule du jour of the TSA. Also, rude airport staff cut the line and then shove people's stuff down the conveyor belt after security. TSA says nothing about that behavior. read more

About a month ago I had to pass through this checkpoint with my mother's ashes. I was dreading being turned away if they couldn't confirm that they were really just ashes, but had made sure they were in a wooden box with plastic lining (per the funeral director's suggestion) and had all of the paperwork with us. We even had a family member waiting in the cell lot to take the ashes back, just in case. A TSA agent pulled us to the side after the ashes went through the metal detector and my stomach dropped. His first comment was that he was sorry for our loss, then proceeded to explain that he just needed to perform an additional noninvasive test. He swiped the box and bag that we were carrying the box in, ran the swiped material through a machine, and we were free to go on our way. The fact that the agent first and foremost was kind to us was unexpected and appreciated. The noninvasive test took little time and (as per regulation) did not involve opening the cremation container. Thank you for making this very hard journey as painless as it possibly could be without compromising safety. read more
