First of all, when walking in you are warmly greeted. I was waiting for a friend and so the women showed me the different seating areas to choose from. I love the variety! My favorite is the couch... It could be my living room... Filled with tea :) I mentioned the type of tea I typically enjoy and I was taking through the varieties they had that I might like. There's a wall of tea to explore! We got very educated on how it's premium and the different types. It's not just tea though... They have bites! Either low or no sugar treats that are delicious. I got the jam cookie. So perfect! The tea is the main event though, right? And it was so good. Mine had a taste of honey while my friend's was stronger. Just mention what you like and they will find something right for you. They can also add more water to the pot so you can get sometimes 3-5 pots from the one set of leaves! Also, you are served which I find lovely. I can't wait to go back and take my husband. It was so nice to escape the cold, hang out with a friend in a cosy shop, and have amazing tea.

They put it in their ice cream, cookies and pancake, one topped with a slice of apple - fresh, slightly sour -and perfectly green cream. Eating this pancake may be a (tiny) sin, but it make's you feel super zen in return. Not only since it's delicious, but also because of the well balanced nature of this place. On the lower ground floor, you'll find the dark yin space, including light teaware made of glass and porcelain. Upstairs you'll find the lighter yang space with dark tea pots on the floor. Add to all this the soft voices of the sweet owners who patiently tell you all about the origins of their loose tea leaves and you'll float to another world. To China where most of their tea comes from. Or to Taiwan where their fabulous Oriental Beauty Oolong Tea is born.

I was expecting a small yoga studio (had only seen the teacher's yoga website) and instead found a whole center with different rooms for yoga, a small cafe, and I hear there is a little shop upstairs. The center is host to many many many many yoga classes/schools, meditation sessions, spirituality workshops, massage, qi cong, etc. Conveniently located right by Vondel park and hidden beneath the trees, you really feel like you are in a safe and warm place when you are there. The energy is quite nice all around. I plan to continue yoga there and will probably check out some of their other offerings soon.

Once the owners of the former Metz store lived here, which is now the Apple Store on Leidseplein. I am not sure who nowadays owns the building, but they are now a spiritual center. You can take workshops there, rent spaces or visit their bookshop. Now if all of this sounds a bit too esotheric for you, don't worry, as they also have an excellent cafeteria. On sunny days you can sit on the terrace, which is nice, cool and quiet. By far the best place in the often overcrowded and noisy Vondelpark. Their prices are quite reasonable and their soup and sanwiches are excellent, from the nearby Vlaamsch Broodhuys. You can also buy individual pieces of fruit, fresh salads and organic food. A hidden gem!

As a fan of both chewy/soft or alternatively crispy cookies, I appreciated the crunch on honingwafel that contrasted with its gooey center. Walking into around 2pm the bakery was steadily busy though didn't feel excessively crowded. A couple customers or groups would trickle in at a time, there were two people in line in front of me, perfect for me to take in the options and decide what to get. There are about 5-6 smaller cafe tables set up for about 2-3 people each, not a place for larger groups. The staff (woman at the counter), was friendly and helpful when I asked about the differences in the wafels, her recommendations, and what some of the other baked goods were. I was very curious about the gember køek and she said that was her favorite in the store. So I got: - honingwafel €3.60: as mentioned above crispy cookies with a honey syrup center. I'm kinda curious what this consisted of since it tasted less sweet than only honey itself. Level of sweetness is probably 6 or 7 out of 10. I ate it by itself and thought it would go well with some coffee or tea. As you're eating a little of the syrup may be squeezed out of the sandwich at the edges so take care. As they sold more, I saw fresh cookies being prepared on the side. - gember køek €3.20: as a ginger lover, I couldn't say no to this one; it's an almond cookie covered on top with chunks of candied ginger. A softer crumb, the ginger pieces were very sweet, cloyingly so that after eating about half (on a separate day than the wafel) I wish I had a cup of black coffee in the moment. - speculaasbrokken €5.50: crispy speculos cookies (think those bischoff ones they serve on Delta flights also widely available in US grocery stores now), but house-made and with almond slivers on top. I found them slightly less dense and with a texture similar to a crunchy graham cracker. I'm curious about their black current and poppyseed pastries, and would gladly drop by again to try these! AKA- The Smallest House in Amsterdam - We discovered another true secret in the Red Light District…read more At Oude Hoogstraat 22, you'll find the smallest house in Amsterdam. But more surprises await inside. Niels, the owner, transformed the downstairs part of the house into a quaint, cozy tea shop, filled with unique teas, special tea sets and tea accessories. But the biggest surprise is that there is a small tearoom upstairs where Niels and his wife serve high tea and tea brunch. We opted for the tea brunch, so we climbed the spiral staircase in the back and found a small, tastefully decorated dining room with a table that seats up to 5, a bright window overlooking the street, and a fireplace with a faux flame. First tea is served with a selection of teas from their downstairs shop. Next comes homemade scones with clotted cream and lemon curd and fresh squeezed orange juice to drink. Next, Niels brings in lux sandwiches made of salmon, tuna, blue cheese walnuts and more. Finally for dessert there is homemade Dutch apple pie, butter cakes and brownies. Host Niels is very warm and friendly and he'll even tell you a few stories about the history of the house. What a wonderful time we had.
