I had originally worked out a deal with Lowes to install a 4ft Spaced Picket fence for my backyard…read morein Southern Pines, NC. However, they decided my business wasn't important enough. I found Ben looking through the yellow pages. His company was the only one who listed a website (it's 2015, companies big and small need websites). I called and left a message and he texted me a couple hours later (I was a bit apprehensive about getting a text message rather than a phone call, but it's 2015 and I guess this is an acceptable way of doing business). Ben came out on a Sunday afternoon and took some measurements and quoted me right around the same price as Lowes. Ben was courteous and very knowledgable. You could tell by the tone of his voice that his fences are all about top notch quality. Even more impressive is that he could finish the fence that week. He promised to get the permits and call 811 for utilities to come out and mark the lawn. We sat down that Sunday wrote out the contract and wrote him a check for half upfront for materials (Ben doesn't use square for credit cards, and I don't blame him. I wouldn't want to have to pay that fee to Square). The next day Ben and a Lowes truck arrived in the pouring rain to drop off the lumber and concrete. The fence installation was hassle free and painless. One day he told me that while he was taking a shower he realized that he placed the gate posts too low and that he would have to dig them out and reset them to standard (This guy is so dedicated to his craftsmanship that he was thinking of my fence while taking a shower). My wife and I couldn't have been happier with the finished product (especially my wife). If you're getting a fence built in the Sandhills area call or text Ben and give him a shot. He is by definition a true American Small Business professional who is a talented craftsman. Be advised that if you go with someone else, you might get a cheaper fence but one that will not last long. Mine will last at least 30 years. Thanks Ben!

I would not hire again nor recommend them at all…read more I was charged $2,450 for something I could have done for maybe $200-$300. I definitely expected his work to be more professional and detailed and it was not. During the project his workers told him that they weren't able to dig in my yard because it was full of clay which was a lie. I planted the flower beds where they were and that's some of the softest and most fertile ground in my yard. The truth is I was here every day they worked, they took numerous breaks as it was extremely hot those days. They went and got drinks, was wetting themselves down and set a lot more on those days than they worked. Instead of lying to their boss they should have been honest. When I went to explain the facts of what happened as I was here, he went on to tell me that I was only here for one of the three days which was yet another lie. One of my plants was ran over in this whole ordeal, wires in the back were cut etc. due to the lies I really began to question their story telling me the wires were cut by the plumbers. Nothing was said about my tree and the job was not clean, neat, nor detailed. I am very disappointed in what I have seen and received. Mr. Boling got very disrespectful when I went to voice my concerns and my daughter over heard him saying it would look "stupid" to build up those areas the way we originally discussed them to be built up. He went on to send very disrespectful text messages. I was truly surprised as I feel as though we were ripped completely off by him and I was expecting this experience to be great and it was far from being anything close to that.

He provided honest feedback as to the what needed to be replaced. I decided to tear down the old deck which was a previous owners summer project and replace with 72 sqft larger deck. The price quoted was reasonable and on par with a previous quote we had with another company without an additional disposal fee. While providing feedback on the deck, I also requested an estimate to replace our fence pickets and the double gate. I decided to go with Steel Caliber as Mr. Dawson is committed to customer service and his team can do it all. Once I was on board, the Steel Caliber team went to work removing the old fence pickets and replacing with new ones. The crew showed up on time and were professional which is hard to find these days! The team worked hard only taking a lunch break even on the hottest of days. They even impressed my neighbor who also requested a quote. The double gate was replaced fully with new posts as well since the old posts were not square and the gate could not function as designed. The deck was promptly dismantled and the new deck constructed. While dismantling the old deck Mr. Dawson informed me of the improper installation of the old deck (not attached to the house except with small screws) had done to the siding which needed to be replaced. I offered since siding was now part of the project that we had two additional siding panels that needed to be replaced and he promptly provided a reasonable quote for the labor and vinyl siding. At the end of the day we are overly excited about our new deck and the quality to which it was built. Mr. Dawson operates a very efficient company with reasonable prices to execute any project you desire. He will be my go to for future projects. On a finale note, Mr. Dawson is true to his word that you will not receive a final invoice until you are fully satisfied with the project. The quality of work, professionalism, and timely execution of the project are what makes Steel Caliber above par. Fully encourage anyone looking for a project specialist to contact Mr. Dawson, he is THE man to execute YOUR plan!
