The house band at Avondale is very loud and energetic. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you people. The kick bass drum rocked my body with percussion with each boom. I'm not sure if that's healthy or just too much exuberance. Hearing "Joy to the World" in rock-type rhythm was odd to this boomer. My early Jesus People days in the 1970's had Jesus Rock (Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Keith Green, Wilson McKinley, etc.) but it seemed more tame than what I hear at CCV. Is that a bad thing? I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting old and now long for the old-school hymns I used to tire of when I was a restless young man. "On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand. ..." 2. The best part of my 4 visits to CCV (twice to Avondale) has been the sermons. Well-polished speakers with an engaging style. I haven't gotten sleepy once. That's a good thing. But not seeing a real person up there is a downer. I watched yesterday's sermon again on YouTube later in the day. So maybe if I can't stomach the lack of reverence in the music, I can view the message online. Ashley's sermon was superb, as was Mark's (iirc) last week. 3. It is great that Bible passages are read and usually displayed on the screens. The Bible is our foundational literature. It makes me want to read more. No "feel-good" or "God will prosper you if you give..." false teachings at CCV. 4. There seems to be a revival of sorts occurring in American now. Coming to a well-attended church service is one thing, but all the smiling greetings don't plug you into the life of the church. A person needs to have a way to enter in, smaller groups perhaps. I have to explore that on my own, so it would be good to mention each Sat/Sun ways to become a real part of the life of the church. 5. The Avondale CCV had a nice mix of races and cultures in the service I attended, fitting to the Avondale area. One body of Christ. Great.

I only come here to…read moreaccompany my wife and to listen to the band during the 11am worship.. but there's these 2 particular Asian women who makes the service so uncomfortable to listen to. There always talking or on the phone talking to someone and always recording with their flash lights on, people are always coming in late . This place needs a little more ordinance in there. Today we had the courage and determination to get up and remove this place from our lives to be at peace .

There were groups of people welcoming folks to enjoy coffee, muffins, information cards for small groups, ministry and multi-generational families meeting in seating areas. I was a bit overwhelmed by it all in a good way. The worship was great but what was even more awesome was seeing a bunch of people getting baptized up front and on the screen during the songs. Each time someone came up from the water there was cheering and singing. It gave me such joy for them! Praise God! The message was great and I filled out a newbie card. Someone called me the very next day to welcome me and tell me about ways I could plug in. The options are endless and there is definitely something for everyone. I took some pictures of what is going on in the next week as an example of the activities I saw posted. The church is a hub for this community providing food, clothing, legal advice, etc. It is really a great resource. I think you should give it a chance. While it is a large church, you can be known as a part of the body of Christ. It is a matter of finding where you fit. I will have to try out the small groups and edit my review on those opportunities for you guys later. For now, I say jump in and know Jesus is here waiting for you. Just show up.

When it was time to leave the parking lot was total gridlock. There isn't anyone around to help guide traffic. It is not meant to be a high capacity parking lot. This church should not be allowed to use this space as a lot as it causes major problems for anyone who parks here for an event. The few people that were on hand were blaming traffic on 91st Ave however the university of Phoenix stadium parking lot was emptying out as everyone in the lot at the church sat. This is a potentially very dangerous situation in the case of an emergency.

His sermons are chock full of meaty goodness for the soal. The pator is not afraid to let me know when I am wrong, which I frequently am. This is how I know he loves me. The people at this church are a family, right from the pastor all the way down to the smallest child. We truly believe that we are the body of Christ. Then right before the message started we had a staff member come and publicly embarrass us in front of others around us by saying we must leave right now due to our dog. Coming in we were welcomed with our dog explaining that he is an emotional support animal and that he has just had surgery 2 days prior. We are unable to leave him at home due to his 6 staples in his leg. Instead of the team coming up with a solution they just kicked us out. I asked if I could speak to someone about this and they quickly declined and didn't even give us another option. We weren't allowed to listen to the message not even outside we just had to completely leave the premises. Walking out the door there was an 8 person team standing there waiting for us to leave like we were some threat and they just watched us walk out. How embarrassing. To say we are extremely saddened and disappointed is an understatement. Every other church we've gone to with this 7lb puppy has never had a problem. Safe to say we are not welcomed back here unfortunately. Such a bummer. I would seriously not recommend a church less. How awful you have no solutions and you're not allowed to speak to anyone, you just don't care about your guests and kick them out. Because of this expiernce its affected us going back to church in general that we will be kicked out again at another church and caused us to feel as if someone is always watching to judging us like they did here. Super unfortunate And unprofessional.........
