I wish they would tell us parents , in writing HOW to be a line judge before forcing us to jump in for the games. However the main game ref does a pretty good job, and the volunteer score keepers rarely make mistakes. The coaches are really good from what I can tell and my daughter has played more than 3 seasons and wants to re-enroll again.

It is difficult watching my daughter regress after just completing a success volleyball season with her school. My daughter said that her coach is "all talk and no teach" which is evident in how the girls play. My daughter advised me that her coach told the players that parents were complaining and the coach blamed the players as opposed to taking ownership that she lacks the skill to coach them. Every week they run the exact same drills and no actual teaching or coaching takes place. If my daughter and I was looking for recreational fun and games this would have been perfect however we were looking to enhance and develop skills. We didn't get that at Empower.

If you need to be indoors for softball or baseball drills and don't take up too much space...this might be for you. I appreciate small business practices and these folks made me feel comfortable and at-home while helping my kid get some reps in on a Sunday afternoon behind locked doors. If you're a night owl, it's even better since reservations can be made for the middle of the night like a quick hotel stay. It's not big, but BYOB (bat) and helmet and you'll probably get 300-400 pitches in an hour for their fair price. Clean your cage when done, expect to be under video surveillance throughout and just don't ruin this for the next guy trying to do right for their kids. I'm sure they will expand services for structured training as time goes on, but this is all we needed for now and it was great!

While Centennial has more sports to offer (outdoor swimming pool, 8 soccer fields, 9 baseball/softball fields, bike trails, etc.), JHC really specializes in baseball/softball. JHC has 5 regulation fields for baseball and softball (with a clubhouse centering 4 of them), and they also use 5 additional fields from the school district right next door ... so in total, JHC can use 10 fields of play, and all are professionally maintained with the fields dragged every day. If I remember correctly the infields are clay and the pitching mound are a flat circle (so its really set up for softball). The fields are generally used for 16 and Under games. There are often tournaments during the summer, but when the fields are empty anyone can get on and hit the ball around ... no appointment needed, just go and play. There really aren't concessions here, so you pretty much have to bring your own. Bathrooms are in the center clubhouse. Parking is on both sides of the complex so there are scores of spaces. They do have a walking trail or two through the complex if you aren't there for the ball games. The whole complex is part of the Orland Park Village Hall buildings. Give this place a try.
