The Trossachs Woollen Mill in Kilmahog, Callander, Scotland, is known for its Highland cows, shop, and cafe. Our bus tour stopped here, and glad they did. We met Hamish, Honey and Holy (these are cute cow's names). We fed them carrots, potatoes- these are gentle and very cute. We took a couple of photos with them. You can feed Hamish Dubh, Honey, and Holly with freshly made goodie bags available in-store. Highland Cattle are born and bred to deal with the extreme weather conditions of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. They are very hardy but very gentle in nature. There are still working herds or 'folds' throughout Scotland. Highland Cattle have no layer of fat to keep them warm and instead have an extra coat, which also maintains weatherproofing. The Woollen Mill also has a souvenir shop and cafe attached to this farm. They sell lettuce, potatoes, carrot in packets that can be fed to these highland cows. These cows are very fond of the food and are very camera-friendly! There's always a crowd to see these cuddly creatures. Every coach bus and tourist operators have kept this place as a mandatory stop en route to the Highlands. This is possibly the most easiest way to spot highland cows in Scotland. read more
I loved this experience! The attraction for us was feeding the Highlands cows. They call them "Hairy Coos" in Scotland. How can anyone not love feeding these sweet innocent coos? They are big, but gentle creatures. Just watch out for their horns. Our tour guide brought over some coo food from the mill. These are large cut carrots and potatoes. Honey & Baxter loved them. They were very happy to eat up everything that we had. Honey really knows how to curl her tongue around the carrots. Baxter isn't quite as talented, but very lovable. It's always a highlight when we can feed some amazing animals. My husband was totally into it as you can see in the videos. The Trossachs Woollen Mill is located off of the A84 in Callander. It's on the side closest to Kilmahog. There's a shop and café. I don't believe that they do mill tours here anymore, but I could be wrong. They also have a portacabin if you're using this as a rest stop. Petting and talking to the cows is a free activity. Buying food from their shop is required for feeding them. They don't want you to feed them anything else for the safety of the cows. There was another one there besides Honey & Baxter. I think it was Hamish Dubh. He was too busy eating hay. We saw some sheep in another part of the farm, but the coos are the star of the show here. I can totally see why feeding them is popular. We had a great time! The best part is that you don't have to book a "Hairy Coo Tour" to see them. read more
I actually remembered this place from a previous day trip in Scotland and when I passed by again, I managed to make a sharp turn in! This makes for a nice pit stop for those heading through the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park area. It's got all the basics and seems to be popular with the day-tour groups (which seem to come in and out very quickly). There is a cafe, restrooms, and a sizeable shop that isn't ridiculously overpriced. Best of all, you can see the Highland cattle in the pens next to the parking lot. The side of the building features the light-brown one named Hamish, but if you read the story posted near the restrooms, you'll notice that the original Hamish actually passed away in 2014. It has a sizeable parking lot. read more

This is a must see and must eat wonderful shop. Myra and staff are so very sweet and helpful and accommodating with a life size sense of humor. She was very kind letting us know how to get our VAT tax refund on our purchases while in Scotland. They Hair Coos were beautiful. Don't miss this fun little stop Be sure to have lunch In their cafe. Delicious and homemade tomato soup was on the menu the day we visited. Soup with a toastie hit the spot. Loved our couple hours we stopped in. I'll be back for sure read more

You'll most likely be stopping here if you're on a tour bus to the highlands or one of the lochs. Located in Callander, its a small place where you can see highland cows, shop at the over priced souvenir shop or grab a coffee or snack at the over priced cafe. The only thing great about stopping here are the surrounding views of the mountains and fields. read more

This was the first stop on the Loch Ness and Legends Heart of Scotland day tour. Hamish the cow was cute, and no I didn't feed him, he's fat enough. I am disappointed that I didn't get a chance to look in at the crafter working on the woolen mill, it was so packed with tourists and we only had 30 minutes to get to use the bathroom and grab a coffee. The gift shop wasn't too pricey for the souvenirs and they had some nice things inside. The ladies that worked in the coffee shop were quite rude. I ordered a medio cappuccino. They have it written on the menu board as medio for medium. When I ordered a medio cappuccino, the broad says, "Medium WHAT????" Well, first of all don't write your menu in another language if you don't understand, I think we both speak English, I certainly do. So I want a medium cappuccino. Do you understand that? read more
