I've been in multiple times now looking for help getting my baby sulcata comfortable. My experience with the employees and products has been positive. Their store is fully stocked and prices are very reasonable. Even though they're always very busy, they're polite and take their time to thoroughly help me. Sam is honest and very knowledgeable. He refused to sell me things i didn't need and he didn't bs me in any way, in fact, he did the opposite in helping me. I even got a vet recommendation from an employee! The store has a unique charm in its lack of a merchandising plan- what it lacks it neatness and order is more than made up in it knowledgeable, experts that on staff. After hearing my cousin cry I have to post her review about this place she doesn't have a yelp yet: "I would NEVER recommend this establishment even if it was the last place in the entire state to get anything for my animals. The owner is extremely dismissive when it comes to information of the animals that he keeps. The low reviews on here are completely accurate I will be updating with pictures as well as others will be doing the same. All of the reptiles should be removed from this area none of them are being taken care of properly none of them have proper lighting humidity or heating they are literally dying slowly. I even offered to come in for free to help and ensure that they are being taken care of and he said that they are OK.It is completely disgraceful that anyone would consider themselves an animal lover or even take pride in the horrible conditions that these animals have to endure. It is a little cramped inside but the quality of the discus is best in the area. I purchased 3 a few weeks ago and they are doing great and I already have a pairing! I went back and bought 2 more and they are doing great! So I went back and bought 4 more! So now I have 2 in their own tank that will mate for life. 1 in a mixed tropical tank and 6 in my 65 gallon tank! The staff is very knowledgeable and when I was having some concerns the owner was ok with me texting him pics with the issue and helped identify a solution. Great service and quality! read more

My boyfriend and I just got 2 small turtles out of someone's backyard and didn't want to see them die so we took them. We came to this store with absolutely no idea on how to care for these reptiles. Sam was so helpful and walked my boyfriend through the whole process with all the dos and donts and what is best for these little guys! Hey,hey, first time customer there and last time customer there as well. Although the girl helping seemed knowledgeable about fish,she could not have been more rude and unprofessional about how to treat customers. She was busy but kept asking if I needed help so I began asking a-few questions about some fish I was looking to purchase, she proceeded to ask me about my home tank like I don't know what I'm doing. After feeling belittled by her condescending attitude I asked her a price of a fish and her response was to look and insult me saying it's marked on the tank and blurted out the price with the name of the fish. Forgetting to notice for 1 there were 2 prices marked for that species as well as the fact that she asked me repeatedly if I needed help and was already busy helping another customer. Not what I expected from a privately owned small business. Try Kona Reef much better pricing and customer service. read more

Was very disappointed with the service - the owner made rude, hurtful comments to my friend that was with me as he was waiting for me to get my supplies. My husband and I stopped in today to get some feeder mice and look around, as we recently moved and this was the closest place in the area to get feeders. It's very small and they are definitely geared more towards fish than reptiles. Customer service was okay-- they never greeted us and took a while for someone to ask what we wanted, but once we were finally acknowledged, service went smoothly. We'll be back! read more

If your starting a fish tank, this is the place to go! We started with a little starter tank and now have 3 separate tank, salt water and fresh! We always get such great service when we shop or even if we are just in there with our daughter to look around. We are defiantly regulars here and wouldn't go anywhere else. Had a good experince when I bought a flower horn there. I ran into an ich issue soon after I put him in my tank. (I know this now) after a few days I started loosening fish. I spoke with a guy that was a serious jerk! However, a young lady by the name of Lindsey intervened and educated me on what was going on with my fish. She gave me sound advice as well, and was very plesent. In my opinion, Lindsey is an asset to the store and could teach whoever that guy was I spoke with first, a thing or two about communicating with a customer. I've been here several times, each time there are numerous dead fish, and not very big selection of fish. This last time I went in specifically for a replacement light tube for my hood. They only had one in the size I needed, for a much higher price than I had expected, but I purchased it anyway. When I got home the tube had been previously used and burnt out. Seeing the condition of the store and the guest service I won't even go back to return it. I found a better tube at PetSmart for $5.00 cheaper and it works perfect. I normally try to shop at local stores instead of chains to help local economy, but this is one store I will never frequent again. read more

This guy stays open 7 days a week. He's the definition of Main Street American business. Great on prices and has a plethora of knowledgeable staff. We have been going here for the last year. He also has pet daycare service for your small reptile. We went on a 19 day trip and it only cost us $50-60. My daughter and I joked about how they probably took better care of our Beardsley than we could have ever done. read more

Use to go here for many years, until they treated me like dirt today. I HATE to knock a small pet shop. There isn't many left, but I was asked what I wanted and after I told them the many fish I wanted to buy they completely forgot about me and made wait for over 20 minutes ignoring me the whole time while taking other customers that came in after me right in front me. And after I pointed out that I suppose to be next the guy working there got smart with me for no reason too. After all that I left with out buying anything. I was prepared to drop a nice chunk of change over there but after what happen today this place will not get my business ever again. Love it here! They test aquarium water for free and they're always super nice and informative. Fish are at a good price the only complaint I have is how warm it is in the store. The heat isn't unbearable just uncomfortable. Other than that I'm definitely coming here instead of petsmart for my fish because they're so much more friendlier :) read more

Love this little localy owned shop. Its a hidden treasure. I was a little turned off at first when i moved in down the street, it doesnt have the "glam" the store by my old house in PV i frequented had. But they are much more knowledgable and willing to order somthing in for you if they can, more so than most shops. The owner has been in the trade for many many manyyyy years and has delt in all kinds of exotics, always nice to pick his brain a little. Ive had good luck with fish from here, get my feeder crickets here and fish food. I even have "rescued " some feeder rats as pets and omg they are gorgeouse and as sweet as the rats i raised myself! I have yet to buy any reptiles (yet) but i will be looking here first when im ready! read more

Great pet shop, they have everything needed for your pets, they make sure everyone is wearing a mask at all times, and the service is great, yeah sometimes it gets a little busy, but so does everywhere, so just wait your turn and they get to you as soon as possible, never had any problems coming here, they're always respectful, they usually only have a couple people working at a time but you'll get all the service needed. This is a neat little fish store that also has reptiles. I used to go to custom creatures to get all my rats but this place is significantly cheaper. I think I'm going to definitely make the switch to here not just for the prices but because of the friendliness of one of their employees. Sure it's a little cluttered but the girl rye makes up for it. She is so extremely helpful and funny, not to mention she knows what she is talking about. I left the store feeling like I was appreciated. 10/10 would recommend minus one star because the isles are super narrow but amazing prices! other than that it's a good store and rye is super awesome and helpful. Me & my boyfriend found this cute little store and after upgrading from a 10 gallon to a 40 gallon tank we wanted to get more fish because it looked so empty only having 4 small fish. So I stopped in looking at getting a group of tetras after finding those ones I wanted I asked the lady up front if she could grab me some she followed me to the ones I wanted and than began asking me questions about my tank like "how new is your tank" " what kind of filtration do you have" "what's your PH level because tetras are sensitive to that" which is all fine to ask but I told her it's fairly new and that I already have my fish from my 10 gallon in the 40 and she started to tell me "we'll most likely 3 of your 4 fish are probably gunna die, fingers crossed that doesn't happen". She then told me she wouldn't sell me fish because she doesn't think I was ready and that to come back in a week with a water sample so they can test my water levels. I was then upset and asked what they use to test there water and she showed me the drop kit ( which I already have seen and read about) I usually use the strips but anyways I bought the kit and went home with no fish and tested all my levels and believe it or not they were all good. I think it was upsetting because I was being talked to like I had no idea what I was doing. Which I do my research on everything for my fish so I just want them to know that they lost a customer and I can be treated better else where. So sad to have good intentions going to a place and being talked down to. read more

After having bad experiences at Petco and PetSmart, (I walked into Petsmart and there were literally dead fish floating in the aquariums, and Petco employees couldn't answer even basic questions about food or supplies), I decided to try this store out. Not only were the prices significantly better ( I paid $3 for a dalmation molly, instead of $5.99 I spent at Petco), but they answered all of my questions with clarity and a high level of knowledge. I also really appreciated, while they answered my questions and showed me what I asked to see, that I never felt like they were pushing me into sales I didn't care to make. They seemed more worried about finding fish a happy and safe home than making a quick buck, and all the fish there looked healthy and happy, with bright colors. 5/5 I will visit again! read more

Had no decent sizes mice for my snakes. Place was dirty and smell nasty. We told them my snakes were about 6-7 weeks old and they gave us mice for a snake around 9-11 weeks old. read more

The first thing I noticed was the stench of the place. I got the impression the guy waiting on me didn't want to sell me anything. Everything I did was wrong and I should get "rid" of all my fish except one in a thirty gallon tank. But looking around I see severe overcrowding of large fish in the same size tanks. Asked about algae control his best advice was "wipe it down", really? Asking about plants I see snails, good place to get a snail infestation. Been doing fine for years with the tank I have and a large fish pond. I'm sure he has a customer base and friends and relatives who leave good reviews, but this guy didn't know me from Adam. Best fish store in town! I've been to all the big box stores and all the small locally owned stores and thankfully the best one is within a mile from my home. Don and the nice goth girl he has working there are super knowledgeable and helpful. Sometimes they seem like their in a rush which isn't ideal if you have a lot of in depth questions. This is to be expected in such a small shop without a huge staff. A little patience goes a long way for quality advise and great prices. read more

The Phoenix Area offers ONE of those places in the Fish and Reptile business, and that is here, with Don and his team. For us older folks, who remember the hardware store guy who would take lots of time to talk about your project, or the grocery store owner who knew you by your name, this is that kind of place. Sure, it's not a sanitized warehouse mega-store with all products at 90 degree angles, 32 inches straight Lines from the aisle, blah, blah, blah. It's a store with character, with surprises around the corner, with treasures stacked sideways, and customers walking around in amazement, with their mouths open wide, with child-like grins, walking thru a candy store! When, you shop here, no matter if you buy something or not, you feel JAZZED, like you just took a short trip into the jungles of the Amazon, or a field trip to a zoo. What more could you expect from any shopping experience! You won't get THAT feeling off Amazon. Just one more note about this store, a humorous, crazy one. My wife is DEATHLY AFRAID of snakes. I mean Like, SEVERE Ophidiophobia! I'm sure Don's store doesn't have a Python on every shelf waiting to bite her, but HER mind thinks so. But they sell a great product for our colony of Blood Red Parrot Fish, so, she will drive up to the store, they will bring the food OUT TO HER, and exchange money, leaving her feel safe. This is one of the smallest dirtiest reptile/fish stores I've been to. The reptile selection was OK, but the quality of these pets don't look too well. I've never seen a dead bearded dragon mixed in a tank with others until today. All the other baby beardies were very very skinny and lethargic. Poor creatures. read more
