The Seney Wilderness Area is 25,000+ acres and has several trails and the Marshland Wildlife Drive, which is a seven mile, one-way driving trail that you can take through the wetlands and forests. We opted for the shorter 1.4 mile hiking loop on this visit. We didn't see a ton of wildlife, but a few swans and some Kingfishers, and the views were beautiful. We only crossed paths with a couple other people, and it was very peaceful. The visitor center was closed due to COVID and there was no port a potty available in the parking area. I read online later that there is a "primitive restroom available seasonally" near the Wigwams Access Point off the hiking loop, but we didn't go that way so I can't confirm that it was there or open in late September 2021. Along the hiking trail, there are several informational placards detailing the wildlife you can see in the area, as well as info on their habitats and habits. Stopping here was a nice way to get outside and enjoy nature. I'd love to come back when the visitor center is open.

The visitor center is closed because of covid, but they have a board close to the center with lots of information. One note...the website says the park closes at 5pm. The visitor center actually closes at 5pm when open. The park is open to dusk I believe. We walked almost nine miles around driving loop and fishing loop, and I was a bit panicked worrying that we would get locked in. We made it out safely! The refuge is beautiful and amazing. So peaceful. The trumpeter swans were everywhere. We were also lucky enough to see a belted king fisher, on osprey on it's nest, and some sand hill cranes. There were otters swimming around too. Seeing nature in it's natural habit is always wonderful. We hope to visit again soon.
