I was familiar with Heritage Church prior to our visit, (I bring donations to their food pantry) and knew they were running 7 services over Easter weekend. I asked my kids if they would like to attend on Saturday as we we near the church- they screamed with excitement!! No joke! So to service we went! The building is situated in the back end of the parking lot, with ample parking. We walked in and we immediately greeted from all angles. I said it was our first time, and without hesitation a friendly woman walked me back to the kids area. Insert the WOW factor here!! The theme was the current movie "Sing" with giant movie quality cardboard cutouts all over. My kids gasped and screamed in excitement- the place had a Playscape inside! The kids area is set up by ages, so that the children learn and play with peers of same age. Everyone was so friendly, it was an amazing community and I instantly felt welcomed. I couldn't get over how many people were buzzing around the building yet it all flowed effortlessly. After I checked all 5 of my kids into their designated area I made my way to the auditorium. Again, nothing but welcoming gestures, hellos and smiling faces. The service was great and the band was mind blowing! That band!! Oh man- uplifting, energetic and really sang messages that spoke to your heart. It was a great service, words don't do it justice. And yes, I'm ok admitting that a few tears were shed during my time there. God is good! My kids had a blast, I loved it. If you're looking for somewhere to belong, or are just curious about Heritage church I say GO! Go check them out. I'll be back.

For a girl who grew up in traditional Catholic church, it took me a while to get used to the casual dress (even the pastor wears jeans), and contemporary praise band music, and relaxed feel of the services. But, I like it. It's welcoming, relatable, and authentic. Services meet in the auditorium of Detroit School of Arts - which may be my only gripe. While large and spacious, it just doesn't feel "churchy" to me (although this may be a pro to others, lol). Hopefully they will acquire a space of their own to meet in soon. Throughout the week there are small neighborhood groups that meet for further opportunity to socialize and discuss that week's message. There are various ministries you can join, that assure everyone has an outlet for their gifts and talents. I hope to see Woodside continue to grow and find new ways to serve the Detroit community!

Newlyweds here! Aug 2023! This place was WONDERFUL 10/10. We want to thank this parish and church…read morecommunity SO MUCH for working with us for over a year and preparing us for marriage and our wedding ceremony. We are both from Michigan (Catholic bride and Christian groom) who moved to Los Angeles in 2020, and after getting engaged, we wanted to have a wedding ceremony in Detroit closer to family/guests. Like many newly engaged couples, we did not know where to start besides website hunting and cold calling different churches. Ste. Anne's was immediately welcoming, organized, and structured all the way from their website to their phone calls and planning process. We were put in contact with Kristen who was was so personable and INCREDIBLE at explaining everything to us in a short 1 hour phone call at the beginning of it all. Apart from the rich history and spectacular architecture of this Basilica, her organization and guidance was a main reason we chose THIS Detroit church for our ceremony. Additionally, they helped us with out-of-state details, Catholic-Christian marriage info, and were always promptly available with questions we had throughout the process. We were informed of the lack of air-conditioning in the building and hesitated due to our summer wedding date but it was NOT at all an issue and we were once again so grateful for Kristen's guidance as she had told us it is rarely a problem based on many many prior couples experiences. (They do also have a sister church with air, as an alternative option). Also during our engagement, the church began renovations and construction outside the building but again, it was not a problem due to their organization and clear communication with us. They even had a built-in process for our wedding photos to be photoshopped if it affected our original photo-related "outdoor church building panoramic view" plans. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Detroit and especially now Ste. Anne's. They took such personalized care of us and it is obvious that their community is authentic, growing, and continuing to become more and more culturally diverse. As a couple not fully settled down into one city yet, we are fairly selective in church donations and choosing parish communities. But we would choose Ste. Anne's again in a heartbeat. We felt the pricing was appropriate and the money well spent both for our wedding and in serving this Detroit community. The reason this review is so long is because we have been phenomenally impressed with everyone who is a part of Ste. Anne's and their inclusivity, and we would recommend them in an instant to anyone.
