What I love about this place is that it's very family orientated. The Fruit and Veggies are way fresher than what you get at the supermarket and sometimes even cheaper. I tend to spend about $25 weekly there and get really fresh stuff. The only downside is a lot of times they are ready to be eaten so if you're planning on getting stuff to just sit around, I would just double check the stuff before buying. The staff has on numerous occasions given my little one bananas to eat while there (free of charge might I add). They aren't about penny pinching at all and they do tend the have really good deals on stuff. The one thing that does always confuse me is that they will have some things inside and some out and they're different prices based on freshness I'm guessing. They always tend to ask where you get it from and that always tends to confuse me considering I do have a bag full of stuff.

The Ripponlea Fruit Shop makes Glen Eira Road complete where it spreads out onto the path almost like a market enticing you with the fresh and colourful produce. The herbs tingle your senses as you walk past and the smiles from the staff mean you have to look inside. It's cheaper than your average supermarket so if you're in the area there's no reason not to get better food for less money!

Quite often though, the quality and range of the supermarket fruit and veg is.... well... lacklustre. Colonial is right next door to my regular supermarket, so anything I cant find in my regular shop, I pop by here afterwards and fill in the gaps. The produce is fantastic, extremely fresh. They also have some deli items, like cheese, olives and smallgoods. Pricing in incredibly reasonable, some items even cheaper than at the huge chain store.

Unfortunately, this store is my second choice but at times, has offered a good variety of fresh fruit and vegetables at competitive prices compared to its neighbour. However, I have to say that the service staff at Green Apple Fruit and Deli are certainly uninterested in anything but chatting among themselves. On more than one occasion I've had to wait for the cashiers to finish their chat before being served. And I'm not one to be picky about these things but when you're rushing home to cook dinner with a handful of groceries, you really want to just pay and get out of there. Besides that, I've picked out some very sad looking vegetables before and handed it to the counter staff to be thrown out- but when I was there the day after, the same sad bunches were still for sale. That being said, this store does have its perks - like super cheap seasonal fruit (while stocks lasts) and a good range of gourmet condiments. I realised I was paying three times the amount from another local fruit shop and getting the exact same fruit. My solution: stop buying fruit here! But is till frequent this store for it's good range of gluten-free products and organic produce. I guess there are some things you just have to pay good money for.

They've set it up like a little market place where it's busy with lots of Caulfield residents picking out the best produce. They've taken a lot of care with this place, providing allergy friendly products as well as organic and non-organic items as well. I was thoroughly impressed with the wholefood store and cafe being next to each other promoting healthy foods and Fairtrade products. It's refreshing in this area in particular, which seems a little empty when it comes to culture and fine foods.
