This was the first time visiting the physical location here at Martin's meats. We have eaten the…read moreBBQ on several different occasions because when my youngest was in Jr High at Tevis the school would have Martin's Meats cater for the band fundraisers and we would always love the food and we have grabbed food when they are at the Farmer's Market. We always talked about visiting, but every time we are downtime we don't ever think of this place. We ended up here because our original choice for lunch was super busy and there was no parking so we drove around and I said.... Hey let's go to Martin's meats, we haven't had their food in a minute. When we got there, it wasn't busy at all. The people there was super duper nice. I actually enjoyed our interaction, I could be wrong but I think the one that took our orders was Martin himself. He was very pleasant, I didn't know what to get, he didn't pressure us or anything and allowed us to take our time. I want to say that the sweet lady in the back was his wife and she was helping with the orders too. While we waited for our food I did notice that they were giving out food to homeless people asking for food. In a time where people are struggling and the economy is the way it is, I really loved seeing this. When you walk in, it's not just a BBQ spot, it's also a cute little grocery store/meat market with fresh produce. There's not a lot of tables to sit at, but they don't have too many people dining in so you wont have a hard time finding a place to sit. The prices are decent and they have something for everyone. I would love to come back again, even though it's a little drive away. Parking is not too bad either since it's not that busy, but if you don't want to head downtown, I believe they still go out to the Farmer's Market every weekend, but I absolutely recommend Martin's meats, the BBQ is delicious. :-)

Had it at the farmers market today. Deep pit and trtip were tasty. I loved all the sauces. Bbq…read moresauce was tasty as were the hot and mild salsas. Got two plates. Lots of food. Very affordable. Sides were just okay

I love this carniceria. Since it's my cousin's go-to meat market, I've been here with her several…read moretimes now. Because she comes here all the time, and because the owner already knows her order, we are usually in and out in under two minutes. Meaning, I never get enough time to explore. Walking in to the shop, the very first thing one notices is how clean it is, which is obviously a great start. Next, my eyes are drawn to a long line of brightly colored salsas, which look mouth-watering. Moving towards the meat, which is in the back of the store, one passes through small but skillfully sourced aisles of produce and Mexican staples such as mole, various forms of tortillas, Mexican hot chocolate, a deep freezer full of La Michoacana paletas, and so much more. (I am proud of the fact that, during my most recent trip to Bakersfield, I got my cousin's kids hooked on La Michoacana mangonada flavored bars. They're an excellent fat-free alternative to ice cream.) In the front of the store are three fridges full of beverages, including bottled Mexican soft drinks produced with cane sugar. Along with everything I've already mentioned, the meat is fire. It's always perfectly seasoned and/or marinated, and comes out delicious no matter which one of us cooks it. All of our experiences with this shop have been positive, and I definitely recommend giving them a try if you're in town.

I came in looking to support a local butcher, but left completely disappointed. I asked about…read moreprices since nothing was labeled, and instead of helping, the guy snapped, "go somewhere cheaper." Then, while I was just talking to my mom, he looked at me and mocked me saying "Ay la Cara de La Niña," like I was scared of the prices, totally uncalled for. Their card machine kept failing too, with constant connection errors. The whole vibe was rude and uncomfortable. Never coming back.
