This review is for Lenten fish fry. FISH - 5 The fish is…read morefantastic. Its a Haddock with a PBR batter, but it wasn't a light fluffy batter, it was more like a breading, which I prefer. Either way it was not greasy, the pieces were large, and it was fresh and flaky. Dee-lish. SIDES - 5 Au gratin potatoes, mac n' cheese, slaw, roll, cookie. The slaw was very light on the mayo, which I prefer. All the sides were good. BEER/WINE - 5 They had it! Summit or Miller Light; box wine or a choice of 4 bottles, two white, two red. COST - 5 $10 or $35 max per family. ATMOSPHERE - 5 There was a long line, but it moved fast and there were plenty of places to sit. Lots of kids were running around, but it wasn't too noisy. I think the best part is the fish fry is put on by the OLP men's club. Its a fantastic scene seeing all these men in charge. I'm sure they decided on the two starches for sides and the beer and wine list. God bless the OLP men's club!

And because of that, this is one of a small group of churches that students are bringing their parents as opposed to the common trend where parents drag their kids to church. All that to say, this is not a church where your kids will be bored but instead will want to come back. The worship/music is top notch and excellent. They do a great job of creating an environment where you can worship. River Valley has a original music and can be found online (iTunes, Spotify, Beats, etc). Really fun old school bingo with a caller and either chips or the slide style of board. Looking around while playing bingo the church really has some charm. After playing bingo for about 45 minutes we went into the main chapel to wait to have our number called. They have a very beautiful chapel with high ceilings and ornate are work. We walked down to the eating area and saw a lot of people we knew. I guess this really is the spot to eat fish during lent! We got in line after paying $12 each for all you can eat dinner. First is the potato options I have cheesy mashed and fried. Then fish, I again had the fried and the baked. Then coleslaw , fresh made tartar sauce, different types of bread and soup. Included is also coffee or lemonade and more deserts than you could ever eat. Like I said it is all you can eat so when you are done if you can eat more you get back in line and do it all over again! The atmosphere is really fun and welcoming. The priest is walking around on a microphone doing raffles and telling jokes non stop the whole time. It leaves you wondering where he gets his energy. Overall I loved it and I would not say it is just a meal it is an experience you need to try. We are getting a group of friends to go back again this Friday. I can't wait.

This is for the Lenten Friday Fish dinner/Fish Fry, what a hoot! If you want a fun Friday night…read moreexperience, you have to check out St. Albert the Great! We arrived about an hour into the festivities and were promptly handed cards with letters on them (in our case, the letter "I"). We were told they were currently on letter X and that we could play Bingo in the basement while we waited, which we had decided in advance we wanted to try if there was time. So we meandered downstairs and after some confusion in finding a seat, squeezed in onto one of the cafeteria tables. My son was famished so I was glad there was complimentary popcorn and sodas for purchase. Bingo was hilarious and some of the cards we were playing on were over a hundred years old, or so we were told (I believe them, it is a church after all). After a few rounds of Bingo, our letter was (what felt like finally) called. We went back upstairs, turned in our letters, and proceeded to follow the arrows to the fellowship/dining hall. On our way we passed a man playing a beautiful piano concerto on a grand piano in the sanctuary. This would be my husband's favorite moment of the night. Once in the dining area, we were greeted by a cacophony of sound and visual delights. There was basket upon basket of silent auctions, raffle tickets for sale, and ongoing raffle prizes being announced by none other than the priest himself. I couldn't help but chuckle with delight at the orchestration of it all! At this point, my husband and son got a little grumpy at he realization we would now need to wait in line to buy our meal tickets, then get into another line to go through the dinner line itself. There was a near mutiny, but I told them it was okay, the line would go fast, and sure enough it did. Once we made it through the serving line, it came time to find a seat, and despite some interfamilial hangry bickering, we found our way. The place was teeming with volunteers clearing and resetting places for what seemed like the entire population of Minneapolis. We finally tucked into our meals. The spaghetti was a highlight! My husband commented at how it was more perfectly cooked than one of our favorite Italian restaurants. The mashed potatoes were seasoned with chives and the fried fish was nicely crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cole slaw was not too vinegary, nor too sweet and the rolls were soft with plenty of fresh butter. The company of parishioners and visitors alike was friendly and heart-warming. And oh the desserts, we can't forget the desserts! Oh the plethora of desserts to choose from.... and decent coffee to-boot too! We left with full bellies and giggling on the walk back to the car. If you want a genuine Lenten Fish Fry experience, check out St. Albert the Great this Lenten season. And if I were you, get there early!
