Tri-State Speedway - Race Tracks Near Me - Haubstadt, Indiana

Went to Tri State Speedway last night and had a great time! Went with a group of friends and watched live racing. The warm ups started around 6:30PM, racing started at 7:30PM, and ended around 10PM. Tickets were roughly $20-25 for adults, which may seem like a lot, but you are at the track for a long time and you can bring in a small cooler, which will help you save on food and beer money. Students 12-18 were $15-20 and kids 12 and under were free. Ticket prices vary depend on the event. You can bring your cooler, or you can grab food at the concession stand. They serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, hot dogs, and fries. The line moves pretty fast, each window has a holding container and you can just grab what you like as you go through. They didn't put a ton of food out at a time, so food was not just sitting there. I got a double cheeseburger and fries which tasted pretty good and were both fresh. They have ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles at a condiment station. I'm not a huge racing fan, but I really enjoyed myself. It was exciting and the fans are really in to it. I live close to 700 miles one way from Tri State Speedway. I have made that drive to many times to count over the years. Why? Because it is one of the premier dirt tracks anywhere in this country and the action there is second to none. Even if you know nothing about racing you'll be a fan after you take in a show at Tri State, especially when USAC or MSCS sprint cars are on the bill. I've been a racing fan since 1969. I've been to approximately 160 racetracks in 32 different states. I've seen oval racing on both dirt and asphalt, and a few NHRA drag racing events too. I started watching sprint cars in 1983, the only year I attended the Knoxville Nationals. When I go to a sprint car race there's a few things I'm looking for. The first thing I look at is the track, to see how well prepared it is for racing. There are a number of ways to prep a track. The promoters at Tri State Speedway take track preparation very seriously! That is a great thing for racers and fans alike. They have some of the oddest pieces of equipment I've seen, but this crew is constantly manicuring the track, sometimes even through the course of the evenings events. A+. Secondly, car counts and more importantly, the number of divisions run (and the order they're run in-this matters). The promoter that tries to make a profit by running six, seven, or even eight divisions may be guaranteeing he can meet the purse, but I've watched families with young kids leave because the races dragged on and on. I traveled over 500 miles each way to get to Haubstadt. I came for non winged sprints. Tri State backs up a USAC sprint show with one or maybe two other divisions. Running the sprint cars first gives the drivers the best track possible, and I get to see what I came for. I believe the promoters understand this! A+. Typically, a track that features late models weekly, may want to show the fans their weekly highlight division. Understandable. However, if late models run before the sprint cars, they will almost always dry up the track, and put rubber down, and it has a negative effect on the sprint car racing. Lastly, how efficiently, and how professionally, does the promoter actually run the race? A good flag man can keep the show going, at the same time, watch out for the drivers safety as well as the fans' safety. Tri State's flagman did a very good job! (a side note: push truck drivers, the unsung heroes, can also make or break a show!).An A leaning towards an A+! Lastly, for me, the most important thing I observed was that the crew was on the track, immediately after the show, preparing the track for the next race! These are people looking to put on a great evening of racing, and they DO! And those strange track prep vehicles I mentioned? They do an excellent job! They get a A++! read more
