This annual event draws thousands to the beer garden and tent located right behind the historic Germania Mannerchor building. Entry fee is $4, pitchers of beer $6 (Bud products, Shock Top, Killians, Miller, etc.) with Warsteiner or Becks at $12. Everyone is a friend here....sharing their beer, joining with the band for traditional German toast, and allowing the liquid courage to carry them out on the dance floor for a little "chicken dance" or polka. If you are from Evansville you will definitely run into an old high school friend or maybe even the next door neighbor from years ago. Don't forget to grab a brautwurst with sauer kraut. They have their secret recipe that is only used for this festival...some have wanted them to mass produce and sell into grocery stores, but they always decline. Put it on your calendar for next year -- I believe it is always held on the first weekend of August.

Quick drive down I-64 and found plenty of street parking and parking lots in the general vicinity of the venue. We forgot that Evansville locale is on CST, which is an hour behind our EST zone. We visited a nearby bar/restaurant for a bit and then entered the theater as soon as doors opened. Multiple security checkpoints and scanning of electronic tickets and then we were in a beautiful lobby. Visit to the restroom, which was well maintained and clean, and then we walked to the theater. Several ushers assisted us in locating our seats, which were plush and comfortable in a tiered configuration. The theater is gorgeous, appears opulent with the myriad of gold fixtures and gilded decor, and seems to be a great example of a retro time period from the early 1920's to 1930's. Audio and visuals were excellent during the show. Performers were fantastic in this size of venue, just right. We enjoyed the show and would be happy to return again! :)
