Then, after booking the Chelsea House, I found it in a tourism book. It was one of two places listed in Falmouth (in that book). I took that as a good sign. The book said that every room had a view of the water. Well, that's not actually true. There is one room that doesn't have a view of the ocean, and that's the Shell Room, namely, my room. But that's ok! Even though we overlooked the back yard (and the neighbor's dumpster), Chelsea House was worthwhile. There were a few weird aspects to the place and a few down sides. Our room was tiny. Super duper tiny. And it was clearly the last one to be remodeled (As in, the other rooms looked much nicer). The tea kettle was rusty (I used it anyway). You order your breakfast the night before. And if you're not down at 8, you're not going to be eating breakfast. I really appreciated that because it meant I was forced to start my day earlier. I definitely got to squeeze more in that way. But, they are a street away from the water and a short block from the beach. They are incredibly close to the bus/train station. So close that when we left, we walked our very heavy luggage to the train station. They are also only a short walk to the center of town, so it's easy to shop and go to dinner, etc. They were very nice. And it was very affordable, considering it was the official start of the season, and most places were booked. I guess with the tiny room with no view (and the weak dollar), it was one time you wouldn't mind paying for what you get!

Plenty of room for two of us, a nice bathroom and plenty of pillows! The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town centre and Gylly Beach Cafe. Staff in reception were a bit unhelpful suggesting we pitch on a roundabout first of all which was completely unnecessary as the park was only about 5% occupied. Once we'd found somewhere we preferred however there was no problem to change. Check out is 10.30 which is a little early but not unusual and they do offer the possibility of a late check out for £5. Have heard that it gets very, very busy and full of caravans in the busy season which may not be yours (or our) cup of tea but well worth a visit off-season if you can cope with the lower temperatures! Also have a heated pool (open in the summer) and a pub/restaurant and shop.

Just off the A38 from Exeter, it was perfect located just a few miles from the hospital It's right next door to a Beefeater restaurant, where the breakfasts are served. Parking can be tight in the evening due to the restaurant. An alternative for food is to nip to the large Sainsbury supermarket just across the road Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were always there with a cheerful greeting every time I walked past reception My room was large with a comfortable bed. I think they're trying to go upmarket a little with a choice of firm pillows on the bed with softer pillows available in the cupboard. The service was very friendly and cheerful. Everything seemed very orderly and organized. We came specifically for fish and chips and were not disappointed. The menu for both drinks and food is varied. As for a beer I chose a pint of draught, the Proper. A light beer with a nice light mellow taste it uses American hops, oddly enough. The fish and chips were excellent. As for the fish itself it was flakey, fresh and the breading perfect. It never got soggy. The quality could hit be beat. Also the chips were plump and well prepared and delicious. The meal came with a small side of mushy peas, warm and quite good as well as a tartar sauce and a brown sauce with a curry flavor. All very good. It was a filling meal and most enjoyable. If you want a nice contemporary pub or a very good fish and chips, this is a great place to have a meal.

This is the first pub you encounter on the way down the hill and if drink is all you are interested in then you can probably just stop here. I love St Austell Brewery, but not many of their pubs have a guest (first time I have seen it). This pub had an almost full selection of their beers (even the Black Prince was holding court) and local wench Betty Stogs was available too. Had to go for Proper Job, what with it being one of my five favourite beers ever, but if I'd been able to stay longer I would not have been bored! Lovely feel to the place with a nice garden for the warmer weather. Perfect? Maybe if they get in an exterminator in to fumigate the Stella infestation :)

How wrong I was, the staff are attentive, the large rooms were clean and the Full English breakfast was hot and served within minutes of us ordering it each morning. We had two rooms, a double and a single, both had sea views (although many rooms do not). The gardens were lovely and the rooms had everything you would expect. We did not dine in the hotel as we were visiting family but did enjoy the bar in the evening.
