Could it be? Yes, indeed, I'm afraid it's true. Ängbybadet is big and bountiful. This gorgeous little piece of existence is right along Sweden's famously beautiful Mälaren lake, and has not one but three piers on which you can wander and relax. Not to mention an actual soft sand beach - a rarity in Sweden - which stretches much further than little ol' Hornstull's. And if you don't like getting sand stuck in uncomfortable places, do not fear - it's also basically a park, with big wide open stretches of green grass right near the water as well. What, that's not enough, you say? Well, how about a restaurant, a playground, mini golf, flushing toilets, and showers? What about concret ramps to the water for the handicapped? And, best of all - they have a waterslide! Seriously! How awesome is that? Aaanyway. The point is, it really does have something for everyone, and it's big enough that there's still plenty of room, even when it seems packed. You can always find a place to put down a blanket and relax with friends. It's a bit of a commute out of the city; you have to take the green line fairly far out, in Bromma, to Ängbyplan. (There's also car parking right by the beach.) But still, it's just a ten minute walk from the station and it's totally worth it if you want a day of lounging and swimming in the sun. Like I said, they've got everything you need!

I really wanted to spend a day out in the Archipelago to experience more than just what Stockholm's beautiful touristed areas have to offer. The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The Stockholm Archipelago has been found to have slightly over 24,000 islands, islets, and skerries and covers approximately 1,700 km² (of which approximately 530 km² is land). As far as I was concerned, we just had to spend a day exploring it while we were in Sweden. I found Stockholm Adventures after another tour company cancelled our tour a couple of days before the tour we had booked with them. Stockholm Adventures made it easy to book another tour, so we didn't have to miss the Archipelago or rework our itinerary for the trip! The sailing tour was 8 hours long, and our guides provided a wonderful Smörgåsbord lunch and Fika in the afternoon. Our guide gave us a bit of a sailing lesson (he left this up to us, whether we wanted to learn about sailing or whether we just wanted to enjoy the day), which was great (might have piqued my interest to learn more about sailing now that I'm home). Our guides were very friendly and informative; we learned so much about the way that locals view life in Stockholm, the Archipelago, and Sweden. We also were able to visit an island that serves as our guide's boat club's Archipelago home, since it wasn't a weekend. Our tour ended up just being the two of us, so the tour felt very personalized to our interests. The information on the website and that we received by email before the tour was very helpful and informative (so we knew what to bring and where to meet once we arrived in Vaxholm). The day was a pleasure from start to finish, and I'm so glad we found this tour. It really added to our trip to Sweden. I wouldn't hesitate to use the company again if we are able to return to Sweden.

I took the palace tour which really added to the experience- I think without the tour it would be a lot less enjoyable. The palace itself is large but the open parts don't take that long to go through, so getting a detailed verbal history helped a lot. The palace interior is beautiful and has a lot of interesting history, and the palace gardens and grounds are nice for a nature walk. Entering the palace and getting the tour aren't super expensive and are worth the price, but I around to a little annoying that there's so many little add on charges to see the other parts - specifically the Chinese pavilion and the theater.

We took a Stromma boat tour that took us from Stockholm out to the palace and back (with a two-hour block for exploring the palace and its grounds). The interior and the grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed our two hours of exploring. The tour is self-guided, so you can wander at your own pace. With a charming cafe at the palace, I wish we'd had a little more than two hours, so we didn't have to choose between time at the cafe and continuing to explore the grounds! I recommend getting a guide book to the palace or using the audio guide, because there aren't many signs explaining about the history or architecture of the palace, but the rooms you can tour are beautiful, and the grounds are lovely, too. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the palace, whether by boat or by car if you have one while you're visiting Stockholm!

When riding the bikes, the seat moves and needs continual adjustment. Although not the bike's fault, the trail is crowded with joggers, strollers, lovers, and walking groups making navigation tricky. Finding Sjöcaféet is easy. While crossing the bridge, you can see paddle boats and kayaks for rent. Head over to that area and you will see a bank of bikes waiting to be rented. Although the building says Royal Djurgården Visitor Center, it's Sjöcaféet. After telling the friendly gal that I'm interested in renting a bike, she tells me it's $8/hour and there are various free maps and other info located at the desk. After paying, you receive a key to unlock the bike for riding and locking it when not riding. To store your stuff, all the bikes have front baskets. Because the trail is so crowded, you will not be able to enjoy the scenery, but rather making sure you don't run into someone.
