Cattail Cove State Park

Cattail Cove State Park

Several of us went on a ~4 mile hike through this rugged, stunningly beautiful park last weekend…read more We passed through dry washes and climbed switchback trails to the top of mesas with excellent views of Lake Havasu. We saw a huge variety of cacti and other native flora. I can't comment on the campgrounds. But overall the park seems to be very well maintained with clearly marked trails of varying length and difficulty. The park offers views of a seemingly vast expanse of water. Yet, when faced with the ever increasing demands from thirsty metropolitan areas throughout the Southwest, it begins to seem like only a semblance of abundance. Turn and walk a few hundred yards inland to where the lake is no longer visible and you're struck by the stark, unrelenting reality of the desert. Coming from Minnesota, I admit to being at times somewhat complacent about water. It's easy to take for granted when surrounded by lakes, rivers and streams. But I came away with a renewed appreciation and respect for just how precious water really is. At the very least, no matter where I am I can take simple measures like turning off the tap when shaving and brushing my teeth and limiting the length of showers. Modest efforts to be sure. But I have to believe they are still very much worth doing.

Great places to hike all around and plenty to see! Bring a hat when you come, it's super sunny and very humid. My family always has a blast, and we come just about every year for the last few years.

Clark RV Park - Good place nice and clean

As full time RV-ers, we always appreciate a nice park for our overnight stays as we travel across…read morethe country. And this is a NICE one. Good pricing, easy pull-in, easy to level, perfect hookups. And it's QUIET! It's away from the usual truck and train noise. The roads are paved. The sites are stone. Laundry and bath facilities are neat and clean. We found this to be a very nice oasis in the desert.

We've been there 20 times in the past 10 years and never had a problem. Well the new owners decided to make it by reservation only. We couldn't have known. We arrived and chose an open site, as always. We paid and settled in. A couple of hours later people showed up and informed us that we were in the site that they had reserved online. There is no one on site to help. No office with someone to tell us about the changes. We drove 5.5 hours to get there. Well, after a few phone calls and a half hour, someone came to straighten things out. But the uncomfortable situation ruined the place for us and, we expect, the other campers too. We won't reserve a site there for fear that the same thing will happen to us as happened to the campers who reserved the site. It's a shame but after 20 stays, we're not going back.
