A beautiful pristine hot spring that is well maintained and very clean. Please if you visit, take out your trash and do not contaminate the water with sunscreen. Trego Hot Springs - Sutter at Trego hot springs - Lakes Near Me - Winnemucca, Nevada

We drove to Gerlach to visit the Fly Ranch for the weekend (that's another review) and figure we'll visit Trego since we've never been there before. It was a 45mins Drive on dirt road and parts of it was a bit muddy since it rained a few days ago. Got to the parking area and a short walk to the pond where we saw it steaming. The water is nice and warm, parts of it was hot where it bubbles, so be careful where your butt lands lol. The bottom is muddy with very fine black mud, must be some kind of volcanic type ash? I don't know. The area is big as the pictures show. There was only another couple there when we got there so it's nice and not crowded. Love the place. I will return to spend more time camping there. read more

**As with all my hot spring reviews, I'm starting this out with a plea/admonition: I get a lot of guff from hot springs regulars for my "irresponsible" compulsion to share hot springs info with the world -- I guess the old-timers are afraid that the more people know about these places, the worse condition they will end up in. I steadfastly maintain that sharing is caring, and that to hoard these locations is greedy and selfish...so I'm sharing this info here with the request that, if you visit these springs, PLEASE be respectful and PACK OUT YOUR TRASH!!! I've see so many hot springs strewn with gross litter (including human and pet waste) that it really turns my stomach.** As far as hot springs go, this one is OK. It's basically a hot ditch, with a muddy bottom, at the edge of a railroad track in the middle of the vast, treeless Black Rock Desert. The water temp is good and it feels fairly clean(ish). Nudity is fine, as long as you don't mind the occasional train passing. Free camping is allowed near the spring, but it's not a traditionally scenic campsite -- low rolling dunes covered in scrub, no shade. No water or facilities of any kind. This spring is right on the edge of the playa where Burning Man is held, and the springs are closed during that event (for a couple weeks before and after Labor Day)...so keep that in mind. If possible, I'd give this 3.5 stars...it's actually pretty cool, just not as amazing as other hot springs I've been to. read more
