I took the intensive German classes here for a month. What a waste of time. What soul-killing boredom.
Clearly neither of the teachers I had had ever been trained, so we never once interacted in groups, never once role played, never once played games, and in general hardly had a chance to ever actually talk in German. We only very rarely got to speak in partners or drill sentence patterns - probably on average 3 minutes per four-hour day.
Lots of time was wasted on the teacher dealing with defiant students' irrelevant questions, that she could've dealt with in the break.
One male Italian student drew a vulgar picture and handed it to the teacher at the end of class in front of everyone one day.
The room reeked every day. And people got mad when I'd try and open the windows.
I know there are bound to be cultural differences in a German class in Germany, but the smell mixed with the poor teaching was too much for me.
