Montana Vintage Clothing could be a goldmine, but unfortunately it's run by a passive-aggressive,…read moregrey-haired woman who fat-shames customers under the pretense of "taking your measurements to match you to the right fits." When I found a pair of cute shorts and asked to try them on she said she'd have to "measure me first." I politely declined, assuming it was an optional service, to which she further informed me, it was not. Then things got weird. Because the shorts were cute (and cheap), I begrudgingly let her measure my waist. To which she said "ohh, they're too small," and put them back on the rack (they were actually my size) When I said I'd like to try them anyway, she smugly told me I could purchase them, but I still wasn't allowed to try them on. It was hands down the weirdest, most invasive, and humiliating shopping experience I've had. And it explains why the store is bursting at the seams with clothing. I doubt anyone actually buys anything after being treated like that. If you enjoy unsolicited body commentary and being size-policed over $20 vintage shorts, this place is for you. Otherwise, run. And a tip for the owner: If you want to run a 'by fitting only' boutique, then run a proper by-appointment fitting room where you pull sizes for people instead of wasting their time and humiliating them. Vintage isn't supposed to come with a side of shame.

There were no extra towels and when we left even after blow drying my dog was still quite wet. There were hardly any brushes and the ones that were supposedly clean had dog hair still in it...not sure how they ended up in the clean area. Seemed like they had plenty of help...just didn't try to keep up/clean up.

Ok. This is my new favorite store…read more I was looking for travel related gear for an extended trip that would accommodate my minimalist travel style. Hooray for The Base Camp and their phenomenally trained staff. Expectations exceeded! The people were knowledgeable, looked up information when I couldn't find the exact thing I wanted, offered to order something not in stock, but could get from their store in Denver, and then let me explore other inventory. They also made it clear I was under no obligation to buy what they ordered if I changed my mind. No deposit, no restocking fee. Nothing. Available for answering questions, the employees didn't follow me around the store like I was going to steal something (well, maybe one person did on my second visit), give unsolicited commentary on every item I picked up, or attempt to drag me to every other similar, and more expensive, item. As my trip gets closer, I'll be back here to pick up those last minute miscellany. And, because The Base Camp has things for every type of outdoor adventure, it'll be an easy stop without the big-box hassles for future trips.

I am bummed the physical location in Billings had to close but so glad I can still access it online. The other day I ordered an item online and got a text message within hours from the owner, Kristen, saying she was out of town but could have someone else ship the item right away. And the item arrived within 2 days. Kristen also provided me with a refund for shipping saying that shipping was overcharged. I don't know many business owners who are willing to do something like that. I hope our community will continue to support this business. We need to reinforce people like Kristen who is on top of things and provides quality services.
