A farmer's market in the winter? How awesome!…read more My sister and I walked around and explored the booths in the market. She purchased a peanut butter flavor dog treat for my dog and he loved it. We sampled a few food items like pistachio flavored peanut butter and pumpkin flavored granola. All the samples were yummy and I wish I had money to buy more. Although I love farmer's markets and supporting local businesses, the premiums are high and can bust your bank account if you're not careful lol. However the fresh greens have reasonable prices and I recommend loading up on those.

The crafts and displays are informative and fascinating. There was a vendor selling all kinds of mushrooms that I never heard of before which seemed interesting and were most tasty when done up in a dish. So in that regard, the vendors itself gets four or five stars. The problem when I went here was that it was very busy and there were about thirty people all trying to look at the same thing at the same time. Lots of people walking back and forth in a tight huddle and little to no elbow room. There is lots of talking obviously which makes the place very loud and hard to hear anything with what people are saying. The Opera Galleria is a mini mall if you will that really doesn't house much for permanent shops. If there were not such a crowd it would be very enjoyable. Now I am not one who is prone to claustrophobia but I had enough of people being loud, stopping to look at something right where I was walking and generally being a nuisance so I did not stay very long and just waited by the entrance for the person I was with to complete his purchase. This Opera Galleria may sound like a good place to hold an opera but the acoustics really blow, it was not meant for something like this to be held here. I am sure there are better venues to hold the Winter Market in town, even though none come immediately to mind, and in turn hopefully the crowd could be more palatable with more space and breathing room.

When I called the guy who runs the place (Stan) seemed uncharacteristically irritable for someone it sales, but I wrote it off hoping I just caught him in the middle of a project. His curtness regarding my questions and brushing off my excitement weren't going to stop me from seeing his place and buying some new stone for my projects. When I could not find his place using the Yelp map I called and he was again curt, as if he got that all the time and was irritated that we simple folk weren't smarter. FYI, there is no fixed sign for this place. Just a canvas banner under the porch eaves of an abandoned building that is not noticeable in any way. The business does not face the street, and instead sits behind others that you have to drive down a bit of a gravel/dirt road to get to. Then it is actually not a retail sort of place, it's more a lean-to shelter with a bunch of dark pink alabaster chunks laying on the ground outside it in piles and on one shelf in the back. It seems he breaks off what he needs (by smashing it onto the ground?) and then saws it into whatever size is asked for. I had imagined neat rows of cylinders or organized displays of broken stone sorted by size, but this was like someone's backyard hobby in a very rustic and not charming sort of way. There were no options other than the dark pink stuff that obviously came from one mine. When I mentioned I was there for pure white stone (as I had said on the phone also) he walked over to a dump pile and started rummaging around for the least dark chunks he could find. I said no, I really need white, and he turned it over to show me the side that was more white than the others. I was sort of in shock, because he had to have known the minute I started carving that exterior white would have gone completely away. It was as if I said no I didn't want a junkyard car I wanted a new one, and he took me around to the backside of the junk car to show me the bumper that wasn't damaged. Really? Could he be in the alabaster business this long and not know that he was trying to sell me something bunk, or was it he thought me a simple woman? I got the distinct feeling it was the latter. Thankfully, his irritability over the phone (quashing my long-awaited hopes) made me aware that if I did not like him in person I had permission to walk away and not buy anything. So, I did just that.
