I feel that it is my duty to protect the public from this attorney. If you are thinking of hiring this man as your representative on legal matters, know that it is not beneath him to represent his financially sacrificing clients in name only. I mean to such a low level of representation that it is akin to just simply wearing a name tag that states, "I'm representing 'insert name'". Fair warning- he is smooth. He comes across as knowledgeable, competent, fair, decent, and professional. He gives just the right amount of mock indignation at the injustices that you tell him about to make you more comfortable. He calls you and responds to emails promptly- at least initially. Lloyd W Kitchens or as he'll tell you, "You can call me Tre" treats you as if he perceives you to be a person that he both likes and genuinely cares for you and your cause beyond the money. He tells you folksy stories about himself and claims that he is selective about the clients that he chooses to represent. Tre represented me in a divorce case. I had anything and everything that any attorney could ask for to substantiate my grounds for divorce. By that, I mean my then husband had every reason to avoid court where his behavior would be exposed and placed in a public record. I had no familiarity with court or how it worked. I understandably believed that Tre, as my attorney was delving deeper into the data obtained from discovery questions (or that he would tell me what additional information I needed to provide) and was preparing a solid case that would prevail. On mediation day, Lloyd W. Kitchens, who wanted me to call him "Tre", who had consistently assured me that I could get a fair settlement for four months all the way up to the mediation; who I thought was working behind the scenes on my behalf gathering and compiling data for a strong legal argument; who I had paid $5k to be my legal Counsel, was the reason that I got shafted. Immediately after mediation, I came to my senses and called him to halt/ void the agreement. During this call I was amazed and reminded of how I had fallen under the spell of his earlier mantras to: "trust me", and other things such as "you don't know the judge that we're going in front of, I do. I've seen things go either way with him", "In my 21(?) years of experience this is not a good deal, this is a great deal that you don't want to mess up" and as "Trust me. It is not in the best interest of you and your sons to risk this by asking for that". It is embarrassing what Tre emotionally manipulated me into agreeing to that day. My 23 years of marriage to a physician with 2 children and no infidelity on my part was not helpful for me. MY attorney, Tre, was very ACTIVE advocating for the "great deal" that resulted in: no spousal support, no retainment of either of 2 properties that could've been a source of passive income for life, division of the estate based upon my husband's false numbers, along with a number of other injustices. Since then, Tre, has lied by stating that he never asked for or pursued the actual value of my ex-husband's medical practice, because I said that I didn't want them and that I said that I "wanted to get it (the divorce) over with". How much sense does it make for me to pay him $5k after paying and dismissing 2 other attorneys if I just wanted to "get it over with"? I don't know if his lack of competent, professional legal representation was: because he didn't want to go to court; or maybe he cut a deal with the other side (as friends have speculated),or if he really did think that was a great deal. Whichever, do you want to take that chance with your money or your future? I fell for a marketing ploy that he has been voted as a Top 5 attorney in Arkansas for quite a few years. In hindsight, keep in mind that this is meaningless. He either had more people vote or, possibly, fewer people voting more times for him...nothing more. There is no requirement that the people voting have to have used him as their Counsel. If you value your hard earned money, want the outcome of your case to be fair, and don't want to gamble on the possibility that he may or may not be taking you and your case seriously, this is not the route to take. Best wishes in finding an attorney who will fight for you in every since of the word. I wasn't able to void the unfair agreement that I'd signed. It was binding immediately upon signing. Apparently, voiding it is a rarity and very nearly impossible to manage. My next attorney, Katherine Blackmon Carroll, was upfront and open about this prior to accepting my money and case to do so.
