It underwent a major renovation in 2021 where they added lots of amenities and made everything brand new. Even now, 5 years later, everything has been so well maintained and still feels like new. They have a free miniature golf putting course, an awesome splash pad, shaded playgrounds, basketball courts, and a nice nature walking path. You'll also find shaded picnic pavilions and a community garden. My son absolutely loves coming here. The parking lot can be a little tricky to find because my GPS using Google Maps never takes me to the right place. Don't let the location detour you from visiting. It's such a nice park and feels very safe.

The neighborhood and the park is named after one of the earliest property owner's daughter's favorite novel, Lorna Doone, written by English author, Richard Doddridge Blackmore, published in 1869. Lake Lorna Doone was the site of the South's first integrated Little League Baseball game on August 9, 1955. The 1955 little league season was the first after US Supreme Court rulings had eliminated "separate but equal" conditions in the nation's schools and public parks. The Pensacola Jaycees were declared winners of their local district by Little League headquarters in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. When local officials would not allow them to play against the all-white teams they instead advanced to the Florida State Tournament which was held at Lake Lorna Doone Park. They ended up losing to host Orlando in the second round, 5-0 but they were welcomed by the hometown crowd and given encouragement. In 2021, 12 acre Lake Lorna Doone Park underwent an $8 million renovation. Added to the park was the nine hole Arnold Palmer Putting Experience, fitness stations, a playground, football fields, basketball courts, a splash pad and the Winnie Palmer Nature Trail. I especially liked the nature trail where I got to see native plants and wildlife. With the upgrades, this park now has all of the amenities needed to inspire a healthy, active lifestyle for the West Lakes families who live in this neighborhood and all who visit.

And if you aren't a big fan of kids, be aware that there are a lot of kids running around here. My summary of the gyms in Titusville are as follows: 1) YMCA if you have kids, or don't mind a whole bunch of kids, have big bucks to spend, like an outdoor pool option, aren't a big weight rat, like the cool gym, and don't mind limited weekend hours. 2) Parrish if you are a senior, single adult, wanting more peace and quiet without kids, are more serious about weightlifting (they have duplicates of almost every type of weight machine so you never have to wait), want to spend about $10 less a month as compared to the YMCA, likes a cool gym, and don't mind limited weekend hours. 3) Healthy Evolution Fitness if you are on a very tight budget, a student, want to be around a very younger crowd (teen to young adult), want new (but don't mind slightly cheaper equipment), like 24 hour access, and don't mind being in a gym that is a stifling hot 76° (Aka: you don't mind suffocating). 4) Anytime Fitness..... well I used to say if you want 24 hour access but now that healthy evolution is here, the only reason I think you would want anytime fitness (because the equipment is old/some seat padding torn) is if you want the second cheapest gym in town with 24 hour access that cools their gym to a good temperature.

All other Y's I've belonged to are professional and very organized and have a pool heater! I taught at a Y. It was professional and fun. Excuses don't cut it; way too many billing and account errors. It has wasted time getting it corrected each time. They do not care, as they still get paid! They're a clique & will cover each others you know what & will never admit to any wrongdoing or inappropriate comments. This is why they need a different Asst. Mgr. and leadership who are genuinely kind & fair leaders, & who play fair, not just do what's easiest. If you go above their heads to get things corrected, they get very vindictive. This is not a YMCA; it's a local, myopic, sophomoric, internally 'political' clique. It's despicable for a YMCA to behave like this. Beware. My neighbors warned me & it's why 3 of them never went back. They were correct.

Basketball tennis and…read moredead people Detwiler is little park not far from the New Smyrna beaches. Certainly not a big park but a very cool one if you happen to like tennis or hoops. The little park boasts five lighted tennis courts, all in great condition. You don't need a reservation except for tournament play and can just grab a court and start whacking around some tennis balls. The park also has a very nice basketball court, a playground and some bathrooms. Not a lot of room for a walk, this park is centered around the fantastic tennis courts. If you happen to stroll over on the far end of the park you will notice that it has a small and old cemetery. Definitely an odd combination. Detwiler is a small park that is well known to tennis players in the area. A cool place to play as long as you don't mind a very still and old audience quietly watching.
