The station has changed with the times but still, some things don't change at all. Now, speaking of the other things.... be sure to pack some food with you because the cafeteria - as others have mentioned - leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered a cafe but with nobody else at the counter, one slow middle-aged man who swept the whole cafeteria, or at least tried to, and took his time in doing so. Afterwards, finally found some time to make my cafe without even washing his hands at all after sweeping!!! Health dept of Jerez you NEED to watch this guy!! I saw later that this same man still didn't wash his hands after sweeping, and when another client came in and ordered a sandwich, he made that sandwich with his unwashed bare fingers!! NO wifi gratis when I was last there. As I mentioned: the building is gorgeous!! The bus station is across the street, practically 128 feet away!

There are baggage lockers for those wanting to drop their bags while visiting the city. There is a security guard walking around to ensure all is good and safe in the area. That was a nice thing to have. From here you can get all the way up to the Basque country, as well as Madrid, Sevilla, Cordoba and more...

Current cruise lines here include Celebrity, Crystal, MSC, Costa, Norwegian, and many others. My husband and I were on a Celebrity Cruises ship that docked in this port for several hours. The terminal was easy to get in and out of, and it was conveniently located near the old town, where we enjoyed historic alleys and buildings, a food market, a flamenco performance, a park, and more. Cadiz is not one of our favorite cruise ports, but we felt happy about our visit.

Combined with an alluring (but nonrefundable) deal on Hotels.com, I thought I would be living the lush life, drinking vino de Jerez until my blood alcohol content was as high as my grade on my first exam. Needless to say, this did not happen. Firstly, the whole concierge process was always extremely slow. Need the code for the WiFi? Need a taxi? Expect to wait in queue for a good 10 minutes or so. Jerez is oppressively hot in the summer. So when the elevators are broken and I am carrying two pieces of luggage up to the third floor of my hotel, I have a tendency to get dizzy. Coupled with the malfunctioning air conditioner, I was a dehydrated, hot sweaty mess. Oh, but it gets better. I had a feeling that I had been giving a smoking room, although I specified "Non-Smoking" when I made my reservation. I wake up the next morning, covered in cigarette ash. Disgusting. So at this point, I am a dehydrated, hot sweaty mess bearing semblance to an ashtray. Sexy. If there were guidos in Spain, you'd bet they'd be partying at the bar across the street where I got to listen to Benny Benassi/Paul Oakenfeld/Tiesto or any miscellaneous Pete Tong essential mix circa late 1990s. When I return to Jerez, I am going to save a ton of money and sleep in the Tio Pepe cellar. Done and done.
