My apartment had a serious cockroach infestation that was never properly addressed, even after repeated complaints. The conditions were unsanitary, and management refused to take the issue seriously. Communication was just as bad. Property Manager Annaliza Castro rarely responded to emails, and when I asked how to reach her, Assistant Manager Cynthia Bass told me the "best way" was to sit in the parking lot and wait for Annaliza's car to arrive. They refused to provide me with a phone number or any reliable way to contact her. Between the pest problems and the complete lack of professionalism, I cannot recommend The Life at Elmwood Grove to anyone. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

We had an issue with the app that is used to pay rent. Apparently another apartment complex in the area uses the same one. We had a mix up and were paying our rent to the wrong establishment. We did not discover this for a few months. Instead of discussing the issue like civilized human beings before the issue got out of hand, they come pounding on our door a few months months later with an eviction notice, a butt-chewing, and a threat that they will kick us out if our rent gets behind again. They also scared a household member because of how loudly they banged on the door. Essentially they overreacted to the situation instead simply discussing it with us before corporate and management tempers got out of hand. It was an unprofessional way to handle the situation.

First off if you know me I have brown hair... from a first glance you would not think "blond" second I have a very dark brown dog. More reddish and black! Little did I know this would turn into so much more. We had regular maintenance check-in's, bug pest control coming around, normal things. Then our 6 year old gets caught hanging out with the wrong crowd and jumped over the fine at the pool when it was closed! They handed it by sending a picture of our son to everyone in the apartment complex and asking "if anyone knew who he was" along with2 other children. They made us take off work and come to the office immediately and had the police there for our 6 year old! Like I understand it's a liability and he could have gotten hurt we were very upset with him! He did community service around the apartment complex, picking up trash and cleaning up the playgrounds! After that we had some management evaluation they told us that our apartment was unsanitary and that they had "talk to us previously" about the topic. They had never talked to us about anything I had always kept the apartment clean that month they came I had been sick the whole month. Mind you we are a family of 6 we have 4 boys with a play room and their play room gets picked about once every 2 weeks because if you know kids they don't keeep it clean!! Anyways we had no food on the floor or counters, no dishes in the sink, the counters were clean the stove was clean the only think that was not picked up was toys that my kids had out. No one has proof of anything they just had all the accusations and nothing to back it up. They themselves had not even been in my apartment to see how it looked. Anyways fast forward a few nights ago the maintenance man moved in next door to us and was parked in our spot. He was outside and my husband had asked him if he knew whose truck it was and he said it was his and he would move it. He then came back outside bitched out my husband telling him he "knows who we are" making my dog bark then he turns it on us making it seem like our dog is being viscous when he was just being protective. He is my emotional support animal! Which then turns into us being evicted. With 3 days to move out! When my husband tried to go and talk to them and tell them our side of the story they told us that we had to get ride of our dog if we wanted to have 5 more extra days! Management changes constantly - I'm not exaggerating when I say it feels like every other week there's "new management," which explains why nothing ever gets done. Good luck getting a response. Emails, calls, requests? Ignored for weeks. Maintenance takes forever (if it even happens at all), and when they do "fix" something, it's half-done and breaks again shortly after - or you constantly have to follow up. The elevator in the main building is constantly broken, which is ridiculous and unsafe. The pool was advertised but isn't even heated, so it's basically unusable and drifted during the summer. After that when you try to leave get everything in writing, take photos do everything you can to cover your butt because they will find ways to double your fee's on leaving. We have had to break our lease because of medical issues with one of our kids, we thought we could take them at their word and had a price we thought we had to pay for breaking the lease which was essentially two months rent, and losing the deposit. We gave the notice as they requested what they did not tell us and it is NOT in the lease is that they will charge you if you leave before the 60 days and apparently they have to repaint walls that had nothing on them and was not repainted before we moved in also clean the floors which had nothing wrong with them anyway. I also recorded the apartment when I moved out because my gut said something would happen like this, but that does not good. The reviews you see on Google Review, Yelp or Apple Review for negative stars on customer service are true! You cannot get the same person if they ever respond. Most customer service has an email that you can go back and forth on to try and resolve an issue, my wife had several emails that went unanswered, I had one response but then the person will respond using a general address so that you cannot respond back to them. This place has potential great location and apartments are nice. If I was the owner there would be massive changes, but that maybe were the problem is, all they care about is $$$ so basically we have to stuck paying for several months of an apartment we are not in, and I'm sure they have already rented back out sooooooo double the profits for them. I have deterred three co-workers from coming here, plus another family member that was going to stay here while at U of A, While Highland does not care because they simply will find another renter.
