I'm not sure if the other reviewers are not familiar with PMT is, but this store was unprepared, unfinished, and tasteless. I don't how this place could even get close to 5 stars... To be honest, I was skewed by all the good reviews before coming, and I was going to give this place 3 stars, but honestly, now that I've had time to clear my head, this place is like a 1.5... heres why: 1. This place isn't finished... or is it? If you look at my pictures, there is no real seating, the walls are pretty much empty, the front window is not cleaned, and the little bay window area on the inside, looks like construction has been abandoned. They also need to rope off the line, as it's a huge mess... 2. The lines are terribly long. This in itself wasn't an issue, until I realized why it took so long. There are just too many darn options! And I know people like options but the issue is, when I order a peach tea or passion tea, almost all places default to peach green tea or passion fruit green tea. IF they wanted black tea, they would ask for it, or else, it should be defaulted. Now, I don't often order taro milk tea, but I was ordering for my roommate... green or black tea? I have no idea... Options to choose from: a. Type of drink b. Green or Black tea c. Level of sugar (regular, light, none) d. What "toppings" (boba*, taro, red bean) 3. Today they didn't have the toppings taro nor red bean. Their pearls were a bit softer than I liked. Wonderful Foods a few blocks down has the perfect pearls. 4. The cup is flimsy, it's terrible to hold, and my gentle hands caressing it still felt like I was going to crush it. 5. I ordered Passion Green Tea with Pearls, half sugar. My first gulp was a bit sweet, but after that, it tasted completely watered down and flavourless. I don't mind, I actually prefer less sweet than overly sweet, but this was a bit much... I usually get a drink with ice and let the ice dilute the drink. This time, when I received my drink, my ice was already melted, and my drink was lukewarm, and overly diluted. This is the same with the Strawberry Green Tea my friend got. 6. The menu is an eyesore. They use a bunch of different sizes and it's really hard to read... 7. Personal peeve, Pearl Milk Tea is the direct translation of what this stuff is called in TW/China (its called Zhen Zhu Nai Cha); you'll rarely hear it as Boba (which translates to boobs). I guess there's no chinese on menu, so this place is catered towards non-chinese people. 8. The chains Ten Ren and Fantasia are much better, and if I want milk tea, i'll be going down the street to wonderful foods. There is no Credit Card minimum! that's a plus... oh and, I uploaded zoomed in pictures of the menu for you so you can study it ahead of time. Also, look at bullet #2 and be ready to order. NOT Recommended, and I will NOT be returning until this place gets their stuff together. Not worth the wait... NO hours posted anywhere... sorry guys, I forgot to ask. This location isn't the best but it's cheap boba tea! The pasadena location in LA has really good boba but the boba here is mushy. The prices are really good - $3.50 for a regular sized drink including a topping! I recommend the drinks without milk. They're pretty fast too. I've heard about this place numerous times and I always just thought it was probably nothing special. I had a friend come before and told me it was overhyped and not worth the wait. I came here today for a drink after going to a bakery across the street to finally try the T-pump craze. The line was out the door which I heard was normal, so we stayed. Waited in line for about 30 mins. But getting the drinks only took less than 10 minutes... I think it's a good concept to be able to pick 3 flavors for your drinks instead of just one at most boba places. I went with the mango green tea, one iced and one hot. I order this at a lot of my favorite boba places in Sac so I wanted to compare. I was pleasantly surprised! I could tell a difference in the drink from all the other mango green teas that I've tried. I'm not quite sure what it was or what they do, but it tasted great. I was super full though so I didn't finish much of my drink. I had 3/4 left and ended up spilling it when I got home.....you can imagine I was extremely sad to spill 3/4 of my drink that I waited half an hour for :( I live an hour and a half away so I hope to return soon! read more

This one time I told the barista to add more sugar and he had to ask a coworker in the back. I recognized the coworker as someone who's been there for over a year. I really want to like this place but honestly the drinks here are way too sweet. Just a little more context, I have a sweet tooth and usually don't mind it but I ordered the salted caramel cookie dough tea boba with light sweetness, guess what? Still too sugary. The boba though is super bomb - a nice soft chewiness. I was able to sip up all the boba and leave half the milk tea in there Great thing about this place is it's affordable. $3.50 for a small drink with boba included. You get 2 options for your flavor so could experiment around if you want. They also give you samples while you wait in line. The workers seem to handle the stress with long lines well too. Bummer is that they don't have much seats but that's probably because they want you to grab your drink and go. It's definitely not a place to hang around and play board games or anything. Tpumps is just alright. As another yelper mentioned, this place is definitely 'quantity over quality'. The tea is very basic and taste like sugar water. I got the peach lychee green tea and it was super sweet even with the light sweetness option. It tasted more like syrup than tea. They also give very little boba, but its included in the price when other places usually charge extra. The drinks are cheap given the amount of liquid you get ($4-5), but don't expect the quality to be good. Come here if you're looking for a highly customizable sugary drink with many flavor combinations to choose from. If you're looking for actual quality milk tea, I suggest you go somewhere else. They do have Tpumps Tuesday, where you get the large for the price of the regular size. The line can get long sometimes and metered parking is not too difficult to find. read more

I don't care what ppl say I still like tpumps and so does my son! What I don't like is that every time I go the line is filled you young teens! Argh! Can't win them all. At least when your in the slow moving line you can stare at their extensive menu and decide what flavors you can concoct and hope it tastes good. My order was boring to the likes of him. I asked if he suggested anything else and he said I should add Blackberry and Lychee if I like either of those flavors. I pulled the trigger and ordered the suggested Mango-Blackberry-Lychee Green Tea and it was da bomb diggity. A little too sweet on my part but definitely not too much sweet. A+ service and recommendation. Parking was pretty easy to find at that time of hour but it can get crazy. I suggest taking the N line if you're about that life. Tpumps has managed to be unique in a city OVERFLOWING with boba places (not a bad thing at all, but most boba places are pretty similar). I loved how many different flavors they have. I'm blown away at the idea of putting chocolate syrup in milk tea. It's like iced tea??? but with chocolate milk??? Why has no one ever thought of this??? (tl;dr for below: this place is waaaaaayyyyy sweet so get a lower amount of sugar than usual) Beware, though. It's pretty hard to calibrate the sweetness level without being familiar because everywhere is different. I like to think I like moderate sweetness, I know people who like more sweetness than I do and plenty who like less sweetness than I do. So I usually get the normal. BUT the normal here is sooooooo sweet. Are you a sugaholic? Get the normal. Seriously. I got the normal and I really don't know how it could've been any sweeter, so I'm kind of scared to taste 'very' sweet. Been coming to Tpumps since their San Mateo days but then it was a real far drive. There is no other boba place with more combos and flavorings than Tpumps that's for sure. If yo uwant options they got endless amounts. My brother will try a different combo every time but I like to play it safe and get my favorite Honey Green Tea with extra boba. They be skimping on their boba though. Even the extra seems like regular boba amount at most boba places. Their boba is top notch though, perfect chewiness and honey flavor. They are open during SIP and have a line outside with people standing 6ft apart. Worth it even on a freezing windy evening! At first I was skeptical about ordering something from this boba joint because of the +3 star review. But my doubts soon went away. I mean, a long line that extends outside means it's good right? I noticed several things about Tpumps that set it apart from other places. First off, they offer free samples to the people waiting in line. When you order, you are allowed to blend in flavors, choose different levels of sweetness (more, normal, or less), and choose between black tea and green tea (although you don't really taste the tea). They also have the option of hot boba (a lot of places don't have hot boba tea.) I ordered the normal sweetness, taro coconut green tea slush. It was pretty amazing! They say the honey tapioca is a speciality since it's house made tapioca, but it just tasted like any other tapioca with honey to me. 4. The interior is below average, everything is cracked and dirty. There really isn't anywhere to sit. No tables. It's not decorated. It looks like they skipped out on remodeling the place before they opened the store. 5. The service is nice. They are kind and friendly. Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this place. The Ugly: Long lines out the door (as usual). Parking & traffic can be much more difficult on Irving to go to Tpumps SF. After selecting your flavors, tea, and size, they're able to get your order down fast. I usually go with a lychee passion green tea and the price is very reasonable. Boba the perfect consistency (not too chewy, not too hard) and milk tea the perfect sweetness (not too sweet, not too bland). The honeydew boba is also great, costs extra though! Regular sized bobas are $5.00 which is fair price given the area. I not only avoid going to Tpumps at all times but also actively try to persuade my friends to go elsewhere. When it all fails, I come here. Hence the 2-star review. The menu options are average, the interiors are outdated, and they use syrup. Like, I get that you have 100 years of history, but maybe try to keep up with the times a little bit more? At least do a new coat of paint on the walls and layer of polish on the hardwood floor. The only thing new is probably the menu board, but when you try to order a combination from their favorites menu, the cashier isn't familiar enough with the menu to actually take your order. I come to this Tpumps regularly (Tpumps tuesday!) and most of the time the drinks are great. My go-to's are the mango peach passion black milk tea and the brown sugar salted caramel black milk tea. Drinks are usually very flavorful. However, a couple times including this time, I requested less ice and I saw the drinks being made have more ice than usual so over time, the drink tasted much more diluted than usual. Still a great price for a large drink (especially on Tuesdays) and most of the time, the drinks are flavorful. read more

We were given another sample, this time their Blackberry Black Tea, which tasted divinely tea and captured the flavor of blackberry. 5:18 - It's our turn to order, and the people before us ordered 3-5 gigantic cups (regular size - Tpump & gigantic - Pumpoo), jeez not only did they have just one open cash register, customers ordered many drinks.... I ordered Honey Milk Tea mixed with Tpump Green Tea with boba, and my cousin ordered Peach Black Milk Tea with boba. 5:28 - My name is called, I pick up the drinks at the counter, and the staff member asked that I taste it and let her know how it tastes. I had quite a headache from waiting in line and from the dimly lit lighting paired with poorly chosen brown wall paint; I grabbed and quickly exited. Pros: flavor of the teas, variations of the teas, texture of the drink from the creaminess of the milk were all excellent. I've been here a good amount of times to make a review. Overall, I've always thought tpumps was alright, not mind-blowing. My housemate and I today were talking about how tpumps isn't super asian, which definitely attracts a different crowd of people along with the high school/college crowd. It's not super Asian like Quicklys or Teaway, but has a little more of a "have it your way" kinda feeling. I'm for sure a fan of mixing my own flavors each time I come here, choosing the kind of tea I want (green/black), sweetness level, hot or cold, etc. I really like their fruity flavored teas for the most part, sometimes a sucker for their almond flavoring. I wish they were more generous in terms of how much honey boba they put in drinks though. For a standard sized drink without anything extra is about $2.95. If you want three types of flavoring instead of two in your drink, it's an extra $1. More toppings is an extra $.50. Upgrade to a Pumpbo, it's almost $4? Everything adds up so.. your creation could be prettyyy expensive. Oh make sure to use your fivestars card if you have one from other places. Sometimes there's a long line in the shop that extends outdoors. I honestly wouldn't wait that long for a drink from here. I'm glad they opened a T-pumps actually in the city so we dont have to drive out too far anymore, but since they've opened there has been nothing but LONG LINES. (unless you go late at night when all the hs kids are at home) Don't get me wrong, I really like T-pumps, but definitely not worth the hour wait. I don't really have a "regular" drink but I always mix the same couple flavors together: Strawberry, Passion, Mango, Blackberry, and Litchi. And adding milk is always 50/50 for me. But I've learned to never add milk when getting Pumpbo (large cup) because they mess up a lot and you dont want your drink to end up tasting watered down. My brother actually recently told me you can add ALL the flavors together and its called Rainbow or something along the lines of that and he really likes it! While waiting in line, there were two different drinks set out for guests to sample. One was Pomegranate Watermelon Black Tea. One word: DELICIOUS! Not too fruity of a flavor because the black tea gives the flavor some depth. I really enjoyed this combination. The other drink set out was Coconut Almond Green Milk Tea. LIFE CHANGING! This is the one I ended up ordering (I got it with light sweetener and felt that it was the perfect level of sweetness). To me, it tastes like that one Asian dessert that has fruit and this sweet white tofu in it but I can't remember the name of it (my fellow Asians, help me out!). My only complaint is that the person taking our order was a bit rude to my friends and I. You can just feel that she did not want to be at work today. Came here on a Sunday night and it was practically empty. You walk in and get hit with the sweet smell of boba. They have a huge variety of drinks, but I am the type to stick with what I know. So I ordered a black milk tea (hot) with no boba, normal sweetness. And I also ordered a oolong milk tea (cold) with boba, normal sweetness. Both drinks were perfectly sweetened. Sunday Streets was being held on Great Highway and it's not every day that you can walk up and down by the beach and enjoy the sea breeze. My girlfriend and I met up with my buddy and we strolled up and down the beach for over 7 miles and were parched. Sugar water was needed and we hadn't had boba in a while, so we cruised down Irving to choose a spot. We hadn't tried Tpumps yet and the line was short so we gave it a shot. Despite the experience at the San Mateo location, I was optimistic about the odds of good tea. I ordered a pomegranate and blackberry green tea with mango popping boba. The tea was properly sweetened but they always put an embarrassingly small amount of boba in their drinks and they always takes so long to make. The cups are super flimsy too. Otherwise the tea is usually of higher quality, though they use powdered creamer to make their milk teas so I usually skip them. The cashier was super friendly though the people making the drinks can be really damn slow. They do it out of order as well, which causes quite a lot of chaos at the counter. The line was only about 10 minutes long this time, but I've still seen it get pretty crazy. The tea is pretty good, but I still don't get the hype. Stopped in mostly out of curiosity since there are always mega lines leaking out onto the curb on the weekends and early evenings. It was empty later in the evening except for a few stragglers dropping in. The space here is expansive but not much done to the interior to invite people to linger and enjoy their drinks. Rather, a take-out style. The menu is extensive and looks like their juice based drinks are popular. MUST READ I arrived at 9:35, excited to relax after a VERY hard and stressful day. I walked through the door to be *rudely* stared down by one of the employees, giving me a BOMBASTIC side-eye. I stood there looking at the menu, figuring out what to order for quite a while (what can I say, I need to perfect the order). As I was about to order, this employee said "Sorry, we're closed". Bruh. 3 things. 1) Your tone was unacceptable. Did your mother never teach you any manners? I don't consider myself a mean person, but nothing makes my blood boil quite like rude employees. 2) Couldn't you inform me of this information before I wasted my time in this (might I say smelly) store? Ugh. And finally, 3) You are not closed. Both the sign posted on the door and the website state that you close at 10:00. I understand that business being slow might make you think that you can cut corners and close early, but if someone walks into the store, with their sisters full of hope and joy, if you are behind the counter then you are open and will serve them. I deeply think that this store needs to check the wellness of their employees, for the sake of future clients. I've only been here twice, but I'm always impressed. D R I N K S: There's sooo many options and if you feel too overwhelmed, you can always pick the drinks that were created on the side board (just like how Cold Stone has their creations already on the wall!) I love how you can tell them how sweet you want your drink, and how soft the bobas are. 5 stars for boba, 4 stars for the tea, and 3 stars for confusing the heck out of me (bonus points if you got the tune right). I mean, I get the idea, and I do love it - make your own tea! You have a bunch of flavor options to add to green or black tea along with toppings. Now, I'm a fan of options, but I'm simple when it comes to my bubble tea (call me what you will, but I judge a boba place on its most classic/suggested drink; if that's not black milk tea with boba, I will also try the black milk tea with boba. This place wound up being a bit more than anything I'd need in terms of options, but the idea is fun and the tea wasn't bad, so I'd definitely take folks here for a fun experience. read more

I always love going here for my boba; on Tpumps Tuesdays i get a Pumpbo (the 32 oz) with a black tea and watermelon guava flavoring. The staff are quick and the lines get going even when they're long. Love it here and always recommend when in the Sunset area read more
