Big toy store stocking all the main brands. Staff could be more helpful. Often cramped and difficult to negotiate with a pushchair.

The theming in this particular disney store is great unlike a lot of other newer ones. It has disney characters above you, a big screen at the back, toys everywhere and a dim lighting for that magical atmosphere. The staff all seem to be women. They are all extremely happy and friendly, which is the american ideal i guess... although, sometimes it makes you wonder how they can be happy all day, especially if you aren't in a particularly great mood. The size of the shop is pretty good and the space is filled accordingly with shelves full of disney merchandise that always catches your eye. It seems quite hard to walk around too without knocking things off as you brush by them, i think i am just a bit clumsy. When they have a sale on it is best to visit rather than when things are full price because they are really expensive for what they are.

The staff are always happy to help, although when I went in there, they seemed terribly understaffed. The item I wanted was not available, so they gave me their phone number and told me to ring on the morning they were due some more stock and would then advise me if there was any in. Sadly there wasn't, but I found that level of customer service brilliant! There seems to be a huge selection of Disney toys on offer & overall I was very pleased with the level of service I received.

It specialises in clothes for all the family and has an impressive homewares department. Membership is required to buy from Matalan which will set you back £1. I personally find their womens range is a bit limited, but their jeans are great quality and affordable. I've had one pair which have lasted me 4 years & still looked great. Homewares was a godsend to me when I moved to university as stuff was modern and cheap. I wouldn't recommend the shop if you don't like to rummage through stuff. To find good stuff you need time & its position in Derby means you have to walk a way to get to it.

The car park is cramped and small. Once inside the shop it is large and relatively spacious but always noisy. The clothes ranges ebb and flow in quality. The jeans and branded jeans are good value but the general day to day way tends to be poorly cut and lower quality. The footwear range is often good for fashion shoes that you only plan on wearing for one season. The homewares section is more appealling and there are some good bargains to be ahead. once again it is largely dictated by fashion so it is a good place to shop if you are staging a house or just want a quick accent change to your decor. What lets Matalan down the most is the presentation. It is invariably messy with clothes on the floor and boxes and trolleys abandoned in the shopper's way. The changing rooms can also be a bit whiffy! For make do and mend items Matalan can be a good shop but it is not inspiring.
