Sal from Town & Country Movers was so nice throughout the entire move. I called with an extreme request - to move in just a few days from Boston to Lowell (and it was the end of the month). He got it done, no problem. The price is very reasonable and they did everything in their power to help us get the move done as quickly as possible. I would definitely recommend them. We have a very bad experience of Town & Country Moving Company (81 Santilli Hwy, Everett, MA 02149 Ph: 617.381.9900). All our fears about a move came true with them! Not only they cheated us by charging us more than what we agreed on initially (in writing), at one point they blackmailed us by locking our stuff in their truck, until we pay them in full. We also suspect that the company and the men they employed were illegal too. They accept only cash as a payment method. The owner SAL Cerrone, the general manager of a 3 employee company, provided me the quote in writing - $95/ hour + $89 for travel surcharge. This price is competitive with the other movers we were looking at. They were going to assemble some of the furniture for us as well. And the agreement was to provide the payment in cash after everything is assembled, and move is complete. However, this is what happened: * SAL asked for $1000 as soon as we reached to our new place. It was only after 2 1/2 hours = $250. When we contested with them, they backed off and said that it was a miscalculation! * Again after 45 minutes (3rd hour running now), they asked for $600 in cash (instead of $300), and stopped unloading the truck until we pay them completely. They threatened to drive away the truck with our furniture, appliances, electronics in it, if we do not agree to pay them right away. * After a few phone calls and discussion, we were so tired that we paid them $500 and got our stuff unloaded. * They broke our dresser, did not assemble our furniture as they promised. However, we were glad to receive all our stuff back from them. It ended up being one of the worst business dealings for us. Why isnt there a zero star? This is probably the worst business of any kind that I have encountered in my life. I hired TCM for a relatively small move. Sal quoted 250 for the first 2 hrs and 75/hr for the rest. Of course these quotes meant nothing, since the movers had no knowledge of the quote and had their own demands. Read on. The movers arrived about 10 hrs late ! The reason being they were scheduled all day for other moves....This indicated terrible management on the part of Sal. And there were just two guys...one middle aged guy, Kevin, and a lanky kid, Shane. I was doubtful if they could complete the move that evening and offered to push it to the next day. But Kevin said..'no problem' to move today. But the story only began then. It turned out this Kevin guy was just a self appointed supervisor to the kid and barely lifted anything. He constantly complained of the number of boxes we had! The kid did most of the work and I felt pretty bad for him. They did not protect valuable furniture, and we had a few scratches here and there. He even mocked me for having paid so much for furniture. Kevin would try to chat me up, in the beginning I though he was interesting, later realized he was just increasing the moving time. And oh...he wouldnt stop about how rich he was! The guys took their time...eating pizza, smoking etc., until when I urged them to finish the job as we had been waiting all day. Kevin got back on the move grudgingly, and refused to load all the items. Once the truck was loaded we drove off to the new place. Then Kevin walks in to take a look inside the house and says 'I need 600 bucks right now to complete the move'. I then tell him even if we use Sals rate it wont be more than 400, but I should get a discount for them being late. Since I was too tired to pick an argument I agreed for 500 bucks which was exorbitant for such as small move. He says he has to talk to Sal...and then agrees. Mind you, the original rate Sal quoted was of no value...completely erased from history. Note this carefully, this moving company is not professional, there is no paperwork, no agreement, no insurance. Movers are not supposed to ask money until the move is completed and all items are checked for damages. But there were no rules with these guys. To top all of this, I had to help out Shawn with the boxes since kevin was barely doing the lifting. I felt bad for the kid. I wish I also got paid for my own move!! This company is a mess. Go with a professional mover and pay a little extra, its worth the money. If not just get some friends to help you and treat them for dinner. Avoid town and country movers!! read more

We called Sal at Town and Country Movers when another company did not come through at the last minute. Sal assured us that is was no problem to move us from Boston to new York in two days. On moving day we got Tom. Tom was very awesome. He was cool and collected and had an amazing system. He got the whole move done like it was easy. I will also mention that the move was done with a five month old in tow. I am a stressed out person. I was so stressed when the other company flaked. I was going to die of stress. Wish I had read these reviews before I hired them. Horrible, horrible company. I wil never use them again and strongly advise anyone against it. They did work for me and would only accept cash. When I tried to obtain a receipt they would not give me one. I called and emailed several times and could get no response. Finally Michael answered the phone, told me to stop trying to contact them and then starting cursing me before hanging up. When I tried to call back the cursing and name calling started again. Needless to say, I never got my receipt and have reported them to the BBB. They didn't even know what they were doing while handling my furniture. STAY AWAY AND BEWARE!! read more

DO NOT USE THESE SLIMY GUYS. They took 7 hrs to move 15 pieces of furniture, bummed a cigarette off of a friend helping me move since they were so slow, didn't have appropriate tools needed to disassemble items, sent a mover who outright claimed to have a bad back, 1 of the movers actually planned on making a personal deposit @ bank along the way to my new house til I told him.absolutely not on my time. Then Mike/Sal (who sounds like the same person) actually argued w/ me that I was heartless for not " letting his mover take care of his family's needs by making the deposit" They tried to overcharge me & destroyed my couch (springs all popped & hole in it), put a whole in my boxspring, & broke EACH & EVERY 1 OF MY DISHES. Needless to say I've been chasing them around for 2 weeks for how to pursue my insurance claim. I've reported them to BBB, recommending website & will be reporting them to FCC & taking them to small claims court if I don't get restitution for damage to my items read more

Extremely poor service. Unprepared labor, didn't bring necessary supplies to safely complete the move leading to scratches on my sofa, hardwood floors and walls. Labor worked deliberately very slowly to increase the charge. Would not unload my stuff from the truck until I pay them full bill in advance. Will never recommend to anyone. NEVER USE THESE GUYS!!!!! Let me say this was the worst experience I have ever had with a moving company. I received an email from Sal the owner with options for a moving estimate. We agreed to hire them for $99 per hour for 3 men with a truck. After I sent Sal a list of the items in our 2 bedroom apartment, he gave us an estimate of $350-$600 to move the apartment & said they would show up at 9:00am. He also advised that they would disassemble furniture, quilt pad blanket wrap all furniture, transport, reassemble & complete setup as part of their costs. I called to confirm the day before that we were all set. The three guys show up at 9:30am the following day (not too bad for timing) in a budget rental truck. There were three guys that looked like they rolled out of bed & smelled of old cigarettes. They finally started moving stuff around 10:15am & let's just say it was the slowest & worst moving job I have ever seen. Of the three guys, there was only one who was actually working hard. At seven months pregnant, I could have done more than one of the guys that was there. I watched him literally take one bed rail down to the truck & sit in the truck to rest for 15 minutes before coming back upstairs to get something else. The guys also took at least 2-3 smoke breaks during the move out of the first apartment, which would be fine if I wasn't paying $99 per hour for their smoke breaks! We already had everything boxed & disassembled before they arrived so it was just moving the stuff to the truck. They finally got all of our stuff moved out of the apartment at 2:15pm & they were to take our items to the new place in Randolph which was less than 5 miles away. My husband told the guys to follow him & of course they got "lost" within the first 1/2 mile. They did not show up in Randolph until an hour later after multiple calls & trying to locate them. I have no idea how they could make so many wrong turns when they only had to go one exit. We were told by the lead moving guy that the unload would be a lot faster. Let's just say the unload was just as bad & took them another four+ hours and more smoke breaks. They did not leave our place until 7:30pm. My husband & I used a group of friends to do the exact same move two years prior & were done with the load/unload in four hours total, not 10 hours!!! I called Sal during the move & he said the guys were almost done. He did not charge me the 1 hour travel charge since the guys got "lost", but I still had to pay $1,000 versus the moving estimate I was give at $350-$600. The guys were terrible with taking care of our stuff also. The "quilt pad blanket wrap all furniture" was a lie as I watched them lay our couch cushions on the floor of the rental truck & scratch/ding multiple pieces of our furniture. We are now getting a new couch & chair after the stains from the moving truck & the smell left over from the movers. I would NEVER recommend using this company to anyone!!! You will have to pay substantially over the estimate & replace the items they damage. They were completely awful!!!!! read more

Warning sal's town and country movers this place ain't no dam good at all and Sal talks a good dam game on the phone with prices and everything I was supposed to move and I had one day to be out and I had previously talked to Sal numerous times to double check and he insured me that everything will be ok and the drivers will be there on time and when it got to like 30 minutes after they was supposed to be there is figured ok maybe traffic so I waited another hour and nothing so I tried to call Sal and nothing of course I tried to call him a number of times then finally 11.30 came and he texted me not called and said that the drivers broke down and left it at that ok so I figured that he would call back and say well I'm sorry I'll let be sending out another truck nothing once again and I can't say how many times I called once again because I had to be out of my other apartment or I would be living out on the street so I had called a have dozen of places to find another moving company some of them couldn't come out at the last minute but thank god I called one more place and found a company they came right out and help me moved and at a better price and more movers also Sal so company ain't no good what so ever and takes advantage of woman on the phone by talking about good game so everyone seek another moving company read more
