I wandered the main house set up with ofrendas and read quickly about the history of the property. I'd like to come back and delve more into the details when there's not as much of a crowd to hurry you along. Unfortunately, the Dia de Los Muertos event itself was a bit disappointing (hence the 3 stars instead of 4 for the location itself). Only a few lowriders and food trucks were present. There was live music and dancing, but the procession itself was small and not like images of parades I've seen from the past. But, it's a great way to acknowledge and represent our culture and those who have gone before us. 2022 #58

The Gutierrez - Hubbell House was an undiscovered gem. I've lived in this town 20+ years, I'd never connected to this incredible organization/venue, but I'm headed back, soon. A few notes on why you MUST visit this farm/museum: lush, immaculate, expansive. Family-friendly, too. These acres own an identity that goes way back, 18th century, and you'll need to take a tour to learn the specifics, but the basics: east coast wanderer meets a Spanish girl, they start a family, become an invaluable resource in this city, and that's the way they all became the Gutierrez-Hubbell Bunch. Bah dum bum. Two hundred-plus years later the venue nearly falls victim to private investors, but a spirited group of locals volunteer to uphold a legacy. Gardens grow. Festivals flourish. The heritage of Albuquerque's south valley remains intact. The place is open year-round save holiday closures. Tours are easily scheduled, just call. There's so much to experience around here, the grounds are gorgeous, rows of produce pop outside the doors of the facility. The Fermentation Festival has become the largest fundraiser/educational event of their season, and from what I've learned, it's worth a visit, late June.

I drive up Lomas past the Garden Center all the time but I only recently read the sign and decided to look up what it was. Behind all the trees, there is a little Albuquerque gem. I looked up their website and read all about a plant sale they had going on. I got two cute little plants and was excited to see the space. The actual gardens were closed when I went but I want to go back to check them out. I would also definitely go back for another plant sale, the prices were great and they had some fun stuff to choose from. One note, the parking is terrible when they are super busy. I doubt that they are super busy too often, probably only for events and such but when it is, getting in and out is a huge pain.

There are some rules like no bubbles or confetti, but they are all outlined in contract. We had employees there to supervise and help out. Because it was early April and the gardens don't open till mid April we couldn't have the ceremony in the gardens. It turned out to be less expensive. But when it came time for taking pictures, the staff let us and some of our guests take photos in the garden. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. They made for a beautiful backdrop for our photos. Although it was not open on the weekends, there is a garden shop that sells fun garden themed items. There is a small courtyard in the front which also makes for good pictures. What's interesting is that the building itself doesn't look that special as I would drive past it every day and wouldn't have known about it if wasn't for the sign. It's a great hidden gem in the middle of Albuquerque and was a very nice venue to have a wedding.

I will say that it is a cool venue in an old house with lots of little rooms, and that can make it more intimate or more disconnected depending on your outlook. The night I was there, there was an odd mix of young and old customers. I guess that's good. In the end, it's basically an expensive night club with a cash bar. For some folks, it's an alternative to cheaper dance clubs down on Central. More exclusive and hipper, but man, you are gonna pay for it through the nose. Ultimately, this is not my scene and this is not New York.

There was connecting rooms and multiple DJ's in each. They each had their own genre of music they were spinning. The place was decorated well, it was clean and the atmosphere was nice. No hovering men this evening. The line to get in on a Friday night wasn't deathly and women get in free. Parking was no problem as well, AND was free. I have to comment on the bathroom. I cannot speak for the men, but the womens restroom was clean and well kept. My only complaint is the drinks. I feel they are stingy with the brew. Maybe it's my tolerance, but I like a good vodka taste. I would definitely be back again. I think this place deserves to be seen and reviewed more often. Try it. Love it Yelp it...
