However, the washing machine in my building isn't big enough to wash a whole comforter, so I was forced to take it to a Laundromat. They've got big washers, which is nice for a large load. Even if I wasn't washing my quilt I could probably fit a lot of dirty clothes in that thing. Royal Laundry has a somewhat 70's style feel to it. They've got green and orange chairs that aren't very comfy but are super cute! It's not a terrible place to spend some time while waiting for a couple of loads to finish up. It's big, they've got a lot of machines, and you can stuff a whole lot of clothes in each load.

The ladies at the counter are fantastic. A washing machine has been out of order for a couple of years. The washing spin cycle doesn't go on long enough. I could ring water out of my clothes. Just means you spend more on drying. If you can, take your drying home to dry. It will save you lots of money. Even after all this, this is the only game in town for a fairly clean, central place to wash your clothes.

I didn't find the owner to be kind and attentive as the website and other reviews suggest. In fact I found him to be downright rude. He certainly was "kind" enough to temporarily lend me two loonies when my toonie accidentally rolled under a machine (free money for him I guess if he ever decides to clean the place) and give me some extra soap, but before that he berated me for not understanding how to use the two-stage washer. He was right. It was my first time ever visiting the establishment and I freely admitted to not knowing how to work the machine. There was a two-stage soap system and an unreadable cycle dial on the machine that he was quick to patronize me about not understanding. Free laundry lessons and helpful service boasts their retro website. Not here. After paying him back the two loonies he lent me, when it came time to dry my comforter he went out of his way insult me again for hanging my empty IKEA bag on the handle of the dryer into which I had just inserted $2. Seriously, why treat neighbors like this? Has this dude got nothing better to do than nag paying customers? He wore a mask 50-50 when coming out of the back room, so I would encourage people to keep their distance and wash their hands if they visit. All in all Lux was a disappointing experience filled with unnecessary rudeness. I won't be back and neither should you. Oddly, the owner seemed perfectly chummy with other customers who came in as I was on my way out.
