Santiago de Compostela is not only the capital of Galicia, but it is one of the most popular…read moretourist and pilgrimage destinations in Galicia and in Spain. Because tourism and visitors are so important to the city, lots of entrepreneurial types will set up shops with all sorts of souvenirs, knick-knacks, tarta Santiago, and tetilla cheese. While I was in Spain, however, I read an article in La Voz de Galicia, discussing quite a conundrum: despite the fact that tourists were still visiting Santiago in record numbers during a recession, that Spanish shop owners were not benefiting as much as one might assume. The reasons why? Many of the "Spanish" souvenirs are made in China, depriving Spaniards of jobs and the souvenirs are generally cheap and low-margin (refrigerator magnets, t-shirts, etc.). With this in mind, I was determined to purchase gifts from Santiago that were made in Spain. Also, I absolutely detest kitschy souvenirs , further compounding the shopping problem. Thankfully, shopping at Dolman made the task much easier. The souvenirs are a bit more upscale than your 3 euro keychain, but the handcrafted jewelry and religious items (the shop IS down the street from the cathedral, after all) gave me peace of mind. The shopkeeper was very helpful when I asked her questions about other colors particular glass beads came in, etc. She also was very happy to gift-wrap individual items and in an eco-friendly move, gave me a reusable bag, commemorating the 2010 Xacobeo. (I still use the bag for carrying my library books.) The good news: everyone really liked their gifts! Mission accomplished.

Joyas Del Camino do not adhere to the Returns and Refunds policy on their OWN website (link:…read morehttps://joyasdelcamino.com/gb/devoluciones-returns/). They have lied to me throughout the entire process of selling me a defective item and have refused to replace it at their own cost. In other words, they have stolen from me. I place two orders with Joyas del Camino (first order on 18 May 2017 and second order 24 May 2017) 1.The first item I ordered was defective (chunk of metal missing from the pendant) 2. Joyas del Camino accepted that the item was damaged 3. They said it was the fault of SEUR, the shipping company. I informed them that it was packaged very well and that the hard plastic box it come in was intact 4. They then asked me to get it repaired by a jeweller and that I would be reimbursed for the cost of the repair 5. I took the pendant to a jeweller and was told that it could not be repaired due to there being a MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I went to a second jeweller who told me the same thing. Both told me they could not make a missing chunk of metal appear - fair enough 6. I informed them of the assessment of the jewellers and once again, they tried to blame the shipping company (SEUR) and get them to pay for the supposed damage in transit 7. Next, they tried to blame customs 8. Then they refused to post my second order (an independent order placed two days after the first order), saying that they wanted to post the replacement and the second item together (so that THEY could save on shipping costs) despite these being two separate orders! 9. They then said they will replace the defective item, but that I would have to bear the cost of the return (I should NOT have to pay to return a defective item) 10. They have now said that they will refund me after I send the defective item back but that they will not replace it 11. They still expect me to pay the postage for the return of a defective item! Joyas del Camino have therefore cheated me and left me with a defective product and are refusing to replace it at their cost, despite their website saying that they guarantee against any defective workmanship on their products
