The summit of Gross Feldberg reaches some 2,700ft, and is a great place to cool down if the summer heat gets too much in the city (though the observation tower and old telephone towers there are a bit of an eyesore). The road from Oberursel to Schmitten is also a very popular one with motorcyclists, as it twists and turns towards the summit.
There are numerous woodland walks signposted, with plenty of car parking, and the odd café and restaurant dotted in the landscape, and a small woodland chapel at Oberreifenberg. The woods are a haven of wildlife, with woodland bird species, pine martens, red squirrels, deer and wild boar. (NB Although the boar are quite shy, they can also be dangerous if cornered or surprised, so keep your wits about you!).
