Finally got to visit and have to say definitely would go back. We got iced coffee.. mocha it was good but definitely could of used a bit more ice I felt like maybe it melted from the shots of espresso. My friend got an iced chai but she said she didn't like it. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious and the choc cupcake was good but a little too rich for my liking. My friend got a snickerdoodle doozie sandwich with cream in the middle and woah it was hard you could of broken a tooth they didn't eat that. Aside from that love the vibe and the fact that they support women and love what they stand for. We'll be back to try the food. read more

When my husband and I moved back to Bastrop a little over a year ago after being away for five years, we were really happy to see that there was a vegetarian/vegan restaurant/bakery/coffeeshop downtown. We used to buy pretzel bread from these folks at the farmers' market and thought it was cool that they were able to open up a brick and mortar location. We came for pastries, breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc. (had a great Meatless Monday falafel wrap special one evening, for example), and recommended the place to our friends/family/co-workers, etc. Food-wise, I really enjoy the daily quiche selections, but we have also enjoyed the avo-mash toast, soups, vegan biscuits and gravy, etc. The coffee drinks have also been great when we have had them. But there have been some hiccups lately. We work full-time jobs so usually can only come by in the evenings on weekdays, so have missed out on the Meatless Monday specials when they sell out too soon. The owners have said they are still working on being reachable by phone and can't always update facebook with availability, so there is no way to check on a special before coming by. The big problem happened yesterday evening, though. An acquaintance of ours was playing guitar at Tough Cookie, so we decided to come by after dinner to support him. My husband ordered a molasses cookie and a (hot, coffee) latte, and I ordered a chocolate peanut butter crispy bar and an iced chai latte. For whatever reason, my dessert and beverage didn't agree with me and I needed to quickly go to the bathroom. I don't think there was anything wrong with the items I ordered, I think they just didn't go very well with my earlier meal. Anyhow, I remembered where the bathroom was from previous visits, went in, and was closing the door when an employee told me I could not use the bathroom and had to go outside to a nearby restaurant's bathroom. A friend had just joined us at our table, so it was a bad time to leave the premises, so I just sat back down and suffered digestive distress. The employee said that if she hadn't had the door open I "would've seen the big sign on the door that said NO PUBLIC RESTROOM." I told her that I had been to Tough Cookie multiple times before and had been directed to the restroom by employees, so I guessed policies had changed. Plus, "NO PUBLIC RESTROOM" often means that the restroom is only for paying customers, which I was. Anyhow, I'm sure I will continue to go to Tough Cookie because there are not many choices for similar food and drink in Bastrop. But I will no longer be able to recommend it to others because I feel it is unreasonable for a sit-down restaurant to decide to no longer provide a restroom for customers. Many of the people I know have mobility impairments or digestive difficulties, and it is not feasible for them to go up and down stairs and into another restaurant's bathroom every time they have to relieve themselves. read more

We got the avocado toast and vegan biscuits and gravy. The avocado toast was with pretzel bread, mashed avocado, pistachio and sea salt. It was really good and I highly recommend that you order this. The biscuits and gravy were also quite good. My first time having biscuits and gravy, and the gravy was a good texture and had some peppery flavor to it. For snacks we got the chocolate peanut rice crispy and berry crumble bar. Both were very good and they had so made options for baked goods. The coffee they served was also really good. We had a cinnamon roll and the homemade chai tea latte. We were very surprised by how good the vegan cinnamon roll roll is. We would not have guessed that it is vegan. Since this was my last day in town, I figured I better look up unique breakfast spots and this one caught my interest. Upon arriving, I was fortunate to be the only one there (I was early probably 10 mins after they opened) so I had some time to read through the menu. I sort of had a heavy dinner so I decided to try something light with fruit do I ordered the buscuits with strawberries and was whipped cream. It was good and as I waited I looked at the cool artwork and chatted with the cool owner dude. Not only did I get the zooma race discount, he also gave me an additional teacher discount! This bakery is so delicious! My two favorites are the avocado mash and the molasses cookie! The mash is fresh avocado with flaked salt and pistachios on top of fresh baked bread that has been toasted. The decor is comfortable and delightful with bursts of color throughout. I am so excited to discover this shop. Not only is it adorable, near the river and cozy inside, they also have lots of vegan options! The staff are super sweet. This is a cute spot. Chris, I think he's the owner was very friendly and had great suggestions. I tried quiche with asparagus and greens in it, with sweet potatoes in the crust. Really delicious.! I also had a side of avocado mash on toast. The best avocado on toast I have had. They have a bottomless cup of coffee and offer dark and a medium roast. I tried the dark roast, perfect! Everything here from the kitchen is fresh and homemade. I even met the gentleman who provides the fresh eggs. I used GPS to locate this restaurant but it was still hard to find. Right before you get to the bridge is a very narrow opening into a small parking lot. There are several buildings around the parking lot but the one with the ramp is the one you want. There is no sign visible from this parking lot. The ramp is at the back of the store so Go around and you will find the front of the store with the stairs. If the stairs are too daunting take that ramp. read more

My wife has a high gluten allergy and there aren't a ton of places in Bastrop that accommodate to that so we are thankful for a bakery that has gluten free options.
