I made a yelp account specifically to say how much I appreciate The Totem for keeping a very specific wood carved statue from a shop that was on Lincoln street previously- I am not joking when I say I called almost every shop on Lincoln trying to remember who had the carving of a BBC comedy show character that I loved so much. I was heartbroken when I had heard the news that the store had shut down, thinking I would not be able to gaze upon the glory of that beloved piece of art again. Well... On the night of my birthday, I was taking an evening stroll and to my absolute astonishment, I saw a familiar sight in the window- it was "Old Greg"!! We loved our trip to Sitka but unfortunately the last thing we did, since I was craving fudge, was to visit the Totem Store. The owners (?) - dad was mad that wife (?) had left the building and was hollering at the daughter (?) to call that person and tell them to get to the bank. It took him minutes to acknowledge that I was at the counter and then the entire time he was getting my fudge order and ringing me up, he was yelling at the other person. He was even miffed he had to input the amount into his special credit card machine so I could pay. This is a great gift shop across the street from the terminal for buses used to transport people from the cruise lines to downtown Sitka Alaska. Extremely friendly people with a great variety of gifts both Alaska and novelty. A fun shopping experience. read more
