My husband and I used Mr. Johnson in 2019 for our tax preparation needs. Imagine our surprise when recently we received a letter from IRS notifying us that we had a credit for a reimbursement we sent for 2019 taxes, however no taxes had been received for 2019. Thank goodness we had promptly sent our refund to the IRS in 2019 or we would not have known our taxes were never submitted. We had paid in full and signed off with Mr. Johnson in 2019 for the electronic submission and assumed all had been taken care of. Looking back there were a few red flags during our 2019 tax preparation with Mitch Johnson. We had a very hard time receiving a call back on the status of our taxes, even though we provided documentation 2 months ahead of the April date. When we inquired close to the April date the status of our taxes, we were told by Mr. Johnson's front desk person that we had "plenty of time to file" due to the COVID tax extension. It would not have been our choice to delay past the April date (we have never filed late taxes). In the end, Mr. Mitchell held on to our taxes 2 more months more which ended up being 4 months after we had dropped them off. Even more frustrating is that during the entire process it was impossible to meet with him or receive a call back. We were only updated by his assistance. After learning recently our taxes had not been received; we immediately went to Mr. Johnson's office with a copy of the letter. We were told again by his assistance that he was not seeing people in person at this time. It has been over 3 weeks and numerous calls where his assistance said "he is investigating the matter", we chose to call the IRS ourselves and get the matter straightened out. It's very disappointing that he places his staff at the front desk in such a precarious situation covering for his lack of business actions. As an overall assessment, this is a prime example of how not to do business.

All joking aside- I felt like I was able to ask "dumb" questions about certain tax situations and get an educated and helpful answer. I'd totally go back and use their services again because this was the least stressful tax season has ever been. I generally do it myself and end up pretty annoyed by the end of it. The office is located out north and you can set up a consultation anytime to better predict and plan for your needs. I believe the services are more affordable if you go in the "off season" (aka not March/April).
