I am into affordable antique european coinage and found Tortuga Trading on the web. After looking through thier website I found an item I was interested in and decided to contact them to make an offer.
To Note: the price asked by Tortuga was almost double the curent book price for a quite ordinary coin!!! (One would figure negitiations could find an equitable exchange of goods..)
When you call the Phone # it just rolls you over to a recording asking you to send an E-Mail as they are too busy to answer the phone..!! So, I spent some time typing up a correspondence and asked for a response to negotiate a price.
1 week, two weeks, no response..!! So, I take my time to send another E-Mail inquiring about the item. This time I sweetened the deal by offering a trade/part trade of some more desirable coinage that it looked like Tortuga was more interested in. (I even sent a scan of the former museum piece.!!) Now it's been 3 months,Still no response..!!
It appears to me that Tortuga Trading is to busy for any new business.. Poor customer service, over priced goods, ans an ineffective contact mechanism, are reasons to stay away from this company!!!
It seems that Tortuga Trading farms out work for the TV series Pawn Stars.. Perhaps this is why they abandon thier internet sales customers?? I'm thinking Bloated Egos may be to blame!!??
In any case, EBAY has the same coins/items that Tortuga Trading offers, and it is more likely to get a good price when the marketplace is who prices such semi-common antiques..!! Back to E-Bay for me!! read more
