First off, I have lived in NL for 4 years and the service at Tortillia's was the friendliest I have had here; they were super nice!
I ordered nachos as an appetizer, an "authentic burrito" for dinner and my husband and I shared churros and ice cream for desert.
Okay, this is not Azteca; this is a Dutch version of Mexican food. The cheese is Dutch cheese and the portions are regular-not crazy big like you get in America. Also, the Dutch aren't keen on refried beans, so that traditional (and unhealthy) element is missing.
That said, best Mexican food I have had here! The nachos were simple, but nice, served with a tasty salsa and sour cream. The burrito was yummy and spicy. However, white rice would have been much more authentic than the sweet saffron rice served-and is the reason for the lost star. Still, the beef was tasty. The black beans were a nice touch and it was cooked well- baked, not fried.
The churros were very good.
Mexican food is simple and delicious and Tortillia's seems to really get that and does not try to overdo their effort. Other restaurants I have been to in NL tried too hard, to their own detriment. Tortillia's is the first Dutch Mexican-style restaurant I would happily return to for both food and service.
Also, the atmosphere is very cozy. And they served cold drinks with ICE!
And everyone spoke very good English, making it a great spot for tourists who want to try Dutch-Style Mexican food. read more
