Honestly, this was such an awesome experience. You can eat inside, or you can eat outside, in this little walkway that is really quaint, romantic-ish. It was my first torta experience and I can't believe that I hadn't gone here before. The food is really authentic, decently priced, and the torta that I ordered had really good ingredients. I can only really speak for the spicy chicken tortas because that is what I come here for but I drive here from highland park to get it because it is damn good! Sure a couple bucks more than what I would pay in highland park but still cheap(cheapest in old town Pas next to King taco) and this torta is huge and delicious. Keep in mind, Torta's are their strong point and focus, hence the restaurants name. Don't come here taquito's and guacamole(not saying their bad) but I think the Tortas are better. (In my gringo opinion) Also the salsa is awesome(also in my gringo opinion) and I eat mexican food all over LA. I'm mexican at heart. But at the end of the day, I guess I'm still a gringo. Much better today compared to Tortugas yesterday: torta took 5 minutes to make the the Cubana is as good as I remembered 10 years ago. However here is my torta gripe of the day: this thing is priced at $8.25 which after tax is $9.01. I handed the cashier a $10 bill and she gave me back $0.99 in change. Really? Can you just price all your tortas at $8.24 and avoid carrying excess change for just about 90% of your transactions and miff your customers with a pocket full of change?? read more

This restaurant has ok food but definitely overpriced. The nachos plate which costs about $6 is very small compared to other mexican places that charge less. I ordered the carne asada platter once expecting to get an actual steak what I got was asada that was chopped up as if it was ready to be used for tacos, the plate itself costs about $10 for the "carne asada", rice, beans and tortillas. If you are expecting to get a carne asada just like anywhere else serves them, be prepared for what they will give you. Tacos are definetely overpriced for the little meat that they offer although the tortillas are pretty good. If you get spicy salsa, don't expect it to be spicy at all, I wonder what mild must taste like because tapatio is spicier than the spicy salsa they offer. I came in craving some El Pastor, what I got wasn't really worth the price. The meat was a little more like chipped beef with some spice and hunks of pineapple as big as the meat itself. Pasadena does not have many good burrito places so when my coworker told me about this place I had to come try. He said best burrito in Pasadena. Went there with my husband for lunch. Small hole in the wall so we were a little skeptical. Read the reviews prior to coming and it did not seem like anything special. Boy were we wrong. Was greeted by the friendly staff. They had many options but I was here to try the burrito. They even have pozole! I will have to go back for that next time since that is my favorite! I ordered the spicy chicken burrito, comes with rice and beans, onions and cilantro and salsa. My husband ordered the asada, rice and beans on the side so it was basically an all meat burrito. He asked for it be to wet. Simply delicious!!! My spicy chicken was flavorful and moist. You won't be disappointed. This place feels like you went to your uncle's place and he made you lunch. Cozy and delicious. We will definitely be back. They take credit card, metered street parking or you can head to Raymond and Holly if you want to park in a lot; free 90mins parking there. read more

This place is a true find as a casual and yet full menu mexican eatery very close to old town Pasadena. I have lunch here several times a month and my favs are the spicy chicken (Tinga) tacos and tostadas. Everything is freshly made (including agua fresca / fruit drinks) and the salsa (green is my go to) is delicious. We walked by on a Sunday night and it was empty but we were starving and King Torta down the road was packed. At first we were worried about the food due to its lack of popularity. But after trying the delicious food and witnessing the mass of people that arrived after us, we decided we made the right decision by stopping by. I had a carne asada burrito for a little over $6. Lots of tasty beef and I was stuffed by the end of the meal. I probably would've been fine not having the last three bites but it was just too good to waste. Food coma-ed the rest of the night. Their soda fountain machine was out of order but they still have the canned stuff in a fridge. Food was made to order and came out pretty fast. Other peeps in my party had the tacos and the al pastor burrito. Everyone really liked their food and the prices were decent. I've had their asada burrito which had little steak and a lot of beans, had their taquitos which are pre made and so is their guacamole, also had their chilaquiles and they were horrible! The sauce had crushed pepper in it, which if youre mexican thats not how theyre done. This place is not authentic. Very friendly and prompt. Food was meh. Tortillas were just warmed up and not handmade. It's as if they buy the tortillas at a super market and warm them up. The meat didn't have much of anything. I got all the flavor from the sauce and lime. It's not bad but it wasn't good either...especially for the price. $9.50 for three tacos and some beans and rice. First Impression: * only one other person in the place eating, but it was kind of an odd hour (about 3PM) so restaurants usually don't have much business around then anyway. * staff: guy working the counter/taking orders was super friendly and polite. After he took my order and handed me my beverage, i took a seat and he brought my lunch to me. And also, when i got up to leave, he immediately said "don't worry about it" and came to clean up my table for me. * prices: about average for a restaurant, but higher than you'd pay at a taco stand....but hey...rent in pasadena is not cheap. Can't say I was very adventurous with my menu selections. I just had some potato tacos and carne asada tacos. They did a combo plate with rice and beans for me. All the food was great. I especially liked the salsas. Definitely had a "flavor" to them, other than just being "hot". The carne asada was great quality meat and was cooked well. Sometimes at restaurants you can get bad asada which has fat and grizzle. Not here. Overall, I'll stop by again and try the Tortas next time and some other menu selections. I've driven by this place a few times on my way home and finally decided to try it. First of all, they don't have parking. You can find street parking or there's a $2 parking place in front. Neither option was really enticing to me. I finally parked and went in. The girl at the counter was friendly but completely unaware of their menu and the prices. After struggling for a few minutes to tell me how much one potato taco would cost, I gave up and ordered just a torta. It was ready in a couple of minutes. I took my order to go and when I got home, was disappointed. For a place called Tortas Mexico, I was expecting a genuine taste with nicely seasoned meat and amazing salsa. Nope. Unfortunately, the bread was hard and the meat wasn't any more tender. The salsa was spicy but it didn't really taste like anything. They said they put beans on it but there was hardly anything there. I think I'll stick to the tortas at Sausalito. They're bigger, tastier and cheaper. read more

The store front is not twenty feet wide and inside are only four small tables and one table that seats four. The food is good, the ingredients were fresh and the service was very good. Hole in the wall place near the Courtyard, but the tortas were delicious and generously portioned. I had the spicy chicken and my wife had the Hawaiian - both very flavorful, not soggy, and filled with plenty of meat, vegetables, beans, and jalapeños for a nice kick. This is by far one of the best Mexican food I have had in a long time! The tacos are full size, because they don't play games. The Al Pastor had chunks of pineapple in it, which is not my favorite because I'm not a pineapple girl, but my life was changed when I had their tacos de lengua. The lengua is FIRE. Just Amazing. They toast they bolillo bread which sends these tortas to another level. I got the torta de carnitas which was delicious! The tortas are not overly greasy, which don't get me wrong, I love me a good 'ol fat ass torta but this one is clean, both in structure and taste. My friends and I ordered all different tortas...al pastor, cubana, chile relleno, asada and chorizo. About $6.50 each. I think what might have put me off was the torta bread. It was like a hamburger bun. One of us got the chicken mole which was pretty dry, although the sauce was tasty. If you want to hide from the overpriced dining establishments on Colorado...it might be a good choice. But if you're looking for good Mexican food, I'd take your $$ elsewhere. read more

Fresh horchata, good tortas, and at a price point that makes the rest of overpriced Old Town Pasadena to shame. My only complaint is that at breakfast they do not open at the advertised 8:00 AM hour.
