Mr. Rooter's technicians came out at about 6:30 on a Friday afternoon to diagnose the problem. They were unable to replace the bad water heater right then, but did fix it so we could temporarily get hot water over the weekend. They brought out a new water heater on Monday morning and installed it. The technicians were friendly but professional, very competent, fast and efficient, and did an excellent job, all the while keeping in mind they were performing the work for us--the customer. (So many service providers these days just want to get the job done and get the check without regard for quality or service.) They were sincerely dedicated to making sure we had good quality equipment installed perfectly and to our satisfaction. They are now our go-to plumbers.

I contacted Gator Plumbing and was quoted $130-$160 for the job. I was also told the repair would take approximately 1-1.5 hours, so I scheduled an appointment. On October 5, Gator Plumbing arrived and began work at 9:00 a.m., completing the job at 10:25 a.m. However, when they prepared the invoice, they attempted to charge me $310. I reminded them of the original quote of $130-$160 and asked them to contact their office to resolve the discrepancy. After speaking with their office, they returned with a revised charge of $260 for 1.25 hours of labor. Keep in mind that I had already purchased all the necessary hardware and parts myself. Despite this, I was charged $260 for approximately 1.25 hours of work, which equates to $208 per hour in the Rio Grande Valley. To make matters worse, the work was not completed properly. The shower spout was left approximately two inches away from the shower wall, and it now has a constant drip. Neither of these issues existed before Gator Plumbing performed the repair. As a result, I now have to hire another plumbing company to correct the problems caused by this service. I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of transparency regarding the final cost, the significant discrepancy between the original quote and the amount charged, and the poor quality of the workmanship. I expected to receive the service I was quoted and a properly completed repair. Instead, I paid substantially more than expected and was left with additional problems that will cost me even more money to fix. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Gator Plumbing. I believe the company should take responsibility for the excessive charge and the substandard work performed.
